We visited the City January 24th, thru the 26th celebrating our grandson's becoming a teenager, staying at the Mark Hopkins and seeing "Harry Potter" at the Curran Theatre and eating at Scoma's, on the Wharf. The Mark Hopkins is perfectly situated in the center of the city, in walking distance to Union Square, the theaters, Chinatown, Market Street and even the Wharf if you're venturous enough with strong legs. Absolute great location and Mark Hopkins couldn't be a more grandiose/elegant setting to impart a bit of culture and history. He was even allowed at the Top of the Mark and given a piece of chocolate cake with candles for desert. The hotel rooms were fantastic on the Club Floor, the front desk service impeccable and their breakfast was equally good. We love the place, stay there when ever in the City and recommend it to anyone wanting to make an impression. We certainly did and thank those at the Mark Hopkins for making it possible. Read less

Incredibly elegant hotel with impeccable service, well EXCEPT IN THE BAR-TOP OF THE MARK. I had a very brief stay but had to drop a car and then take customers out to dinner after check in. They checked me in quick, thanked me for my loyalty and the concierge took my belongings. I returned after dinner and found my room to be very nice, incredibly clean and one of the most comfortable beds I've been in. As noted in the title, the hotel is ageing. I am not sure if this is a bad thing as it's timeless. It really depends on guests attitude and expectations. I found it to be charming. The staff, both Tony and Bill at the door and the folks behind the desk really made me feel special, for no reason at all. I will likely try this hotel again so I can enjoy it a little more. Breakfast was very good and that staff, including Wayne, really made the whole experience more positive. Beautiful views. Read less

ecided on a last-minute detour to San Francisco on our way back from Oahu due to weather conditions. It had been half a long time ago since I’ve been in SF. We are loyal IHG and especially InterCon members. The hotel itself reminded me a lot of The Willard (DC) and Barclay (NYC). Elegant yet old timey feel to it. We got there later in the… Read more

We are loyal IHG and especially InterCon members. The hotel itself reminded me a lot of The Willard (DC) and Barclay (NYC). Elegant yet old timey feel to it. We got there later in the evening, so the front desk was a bit backed up. But the front desk staff was very friendly, and once it was our turn to check-in, it went very quickly. The room was isn’t too small or too big, honestly, about what you’d expect in any large city. But the bed was super comfortable. I’d never been to the Nob Hill area but be prepared to do a lot of uphill and downhill walking. Read less

Two nights (Thursday Friday) whilst in SF on transit home to Australia after a night in Napa Valley. We booked this on a Qantas Hotels special, it was well priced for its location etc The Good: Great Location! Cable Car out front, easy walk to Union Square, Chinatown and all of the downtown facilities. Staff were lovely. The room was a great size, all of the facilities available (but strangely no free Wi Fi was offered) Top of the Mark bar! Best location to watch the Fog roll in at night Good Price The Bad The rooms are "tired" - curtains don't close properly, don't track properly Furnishings are all nice but very "traditional" - looking dated. Common areas are all in good condition, but all (again) "dated" We have stayed in other Intercontinental hotels that were certainly better Worst Pillows ever. Thin as anything! We requested a room with a view, the view was "sliver" of the bay Would I recommend it, yes, at the right price for its location etc, not for a luxurious experience. Its a Hotel. Not a sumptuous hotel. Read less
