Convinient for seeing the city. There is a cable car and tram station nearby. Can be abit crowded with tourists and airline crew . Otherwise nothing special apart from the warm and welcoming concierge greeting you everytime you leave and enter back .

I stayed here from March 28-April 1, 2024. This hotel exceeded my expectations. It was clean, well kept, friendly staff and was a perfect location for me. GREAT location within walking distance to a Whole Foods and to Polk St for eateries and cafes and local fare. Excellent price point for basic, clean and comfortable, the rooms look pretty new. Neighborhood is very safe to walk and explore -- about 20 min walk to downtown, civic center, Hayes Valley. I stayed here when it was sold out --… Read more

What a well run property this is! The location is central, but away from the overly touristy spots, although everything is in easy reach on foot or by public transport. What a well run property this is! The location is central, but away from the overly touristy spots, although everything is in easy reach on foot or by public transport. The California Street cable car terminus is almost next door if you want Nob Hill, Chinatown, or the Embarcadero. The 19 Polk bus takes you to Ghirardelli Square, Fisherman's Wharf, and Pier 39. The stretch of Polk Street just behind the hotel has loads of coffee shops, bars, and restaurants. I highly recommend Juniper for coffee and baked delights, and Hi Lo Club for excellent cocktails. The hotel itself is quite old but has been recently refurbished and feels modern and reasonably contemporary. The rooms have comfortable beds and good showers and are spotlessly clean. The best thing about the place is the staff, though. It's clear that management is hiring people with personality, who enjoy serving guests. Everyone I interacted with, from the front desk to the bell desk to housekeeping and the restaurant, were genuinely friendly and professional, making you feel welcome as a guest. Obviously, a Holiday Inn isn't the most luxurious property in the city, but the staff, location, and value for money make it an excellent choice. Highly recommended. Read less

We chose this hotel for its location close to a building we had business at about a block away. We had just a few hours for some sightseeing so it was a bonus that this hotel is just a 1 minute walk to the end of the California St/Van Ness east-west cable car line. In about 15 minutes you can ride it to the opposite end of the line which is just a few blocks from the Ferry Building. From there, you can pick up the F line heritage trolley for a 15 ride to Fishermen's Wharf! So you can get to the heart of the tourist area just by using public transit...and iconic ones at that! There is a Whole Foods a block away, and a Starbucks next door. The room was clean, spacious, and quiet. And we were only on the tenth floor, yet we heard only muted sirens as far as street noise goes...nothing that would keep you up at night. The view down California street was really nice, too. They have a full restaurant on site, though I can't speak to it as we did not eat there. Front desk staff was friendly upon both check in and check out and the housekeeping staff we encountered in the hallway was very, very friendly, we took that as a good sign. My only complaint is that they charged an early check in fee of $30. I've never experienced that at any hotel. I mean, if a room is ready, just let us have it, c'mon. Nickel and diming is not hospitality. But on the basis of the quality of the accommodation for the price in the city center, we were pleased. Read less
