I stayed here 1/14-18/21 for 4 nights. The hotel is beautiful and the room, while on the small side, was ample for two people. We were on the 25th floor so the view, which looked west, was incredible. The check-in was smooth and quick. Due to Covid you have to schedule housekeeping upon check-in (we selected 10am). I've stayed in Holiday Inns where the walls are paper thin. I didn't notice too much noise from neighboring rooms, however. The room had a coffee maker and small fridge, which was nice. The location was great. Around the corner is the California cable car line which is a straight shot to the Ferry Building. It's about a 15 minute walk from Civic Center BART station to the hotel. The hotel is located on Van Ness. Polk is the next street with many bars, restaurants and shops. There is a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's within walking distance. I would completely avoid the other streets after Polk. The Tenderloin is an atrocious neighborhood full of homeless and deplorables. We felt extremely unsafe and many mentally deranged people loiter there. The Civic Center BART station is in a sorry state full of trash and shady characters. If you walk to the hotel from the BART station make sure to take Van Ness and avoid the other streets. The rest of the city had homeless but nothing like the Tenderloin. I live in Los Angeles and it's just as bad here. Avoid the Tenderloin and you'll enjoy your stay at this hotel. Read less

Stayed at the Holiday Inn over Christmas with my dad so we had two rooms. Check in was a bit bizarre and the person at reception was not the most friendly. We were given rooms next to each other which was nice. The room was of a decent size and nice view of the city, though as others have mentioned, the windows were dirty so it’s not like you’re going to gaze out for very long. Bathroom was standard and amenities were sparse but I’m sure if you asked for more, they would deliver. The mini fridge was surprisingly large and cold. I cranked it up and a bottle of rose and champagne froze solid. That doesn’t often happen with a hotel fridge. The bed and linens were quite comfy and the hotel was quiet. The fitness room was nice and functional. I could see though that it could be problematic if the hotel were at capacity as there wasn’t that much equipment. The restaurant wasn’t open but there was an amazing array of grab and go options- from salads and wraps to multiple choices of beer and wine. There were a few bars and restaurants within walking distance and you could walk to some sites if you didn’t mind longer treks. I’ve stayed at several hotels in San Francisco and I have to say this was a tremendous value for the price and quality. Read less

Family had two rooms so both skylines!!!! Overall the hotel on great place. Homeless are evident but hotel does good job keeping it away from entrance. We were on 21 of 26 floors—-elevators are quick—safety seemed in tack. The hotel is older and shows in bathroom fixtures and finishes, carpet worn. View was incredible!

The rooms are small and with minimal storage space. The furniture was in good shape and the room clean. Bath amenities were minuscule as well as the two provided towels. The bathroom fixtures though older worked fine. It is inexpensive by San Francisco standards. It is in the Van Ness corridor which is not very convenient or attractive. It is close to CPMC. The best option for out of town tourists might be to take the California Street cable car which is right on the corner. We paid for a corner room which had a fantastic 180 degree view from Sutro Tower to Coit Tower. However, the windows were filthy outside and really need to be cleaned to appreciate the views. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We were there during COVID restrictions so the only amenity available was a takeout out snack bar which at least served coffee in the morning. Read less

We stayed here for two nights. The room was at the back and on the 7th floor so the views weren't great, but that was reflected in the decent price we paid. We were just above the pool which was noisy in the early evening but that stopped well before bedtime. Big bedroom with plenty of storage and a massive, comfortable bed. The bathroom was modestly proportioned in comparison but it had a decent shower. Staff were friendly and helpful; their local knowledge helped us find some decent local bars. Read less
