Hotel Zetta

So Ma District, San Francisco

The hotel

Although it’s ultra cool, the Hotel Zetta doesn’t take itself too seriously, giving it a very welcoming edge. What it does take seriously is your comfort. Rooms are modern — stretch out and enjoy the plush pillow top beds, plus amenities like Amazon Alexa and smart TVs. With technology a priority, this is one place you’ll stay connected. There's complimentary WiFi and a lobby featuring Macs and a game wall. Alternatively, retire to the S&R Lounge (short for ‘Salvage & Rescue’). Decked out like a Manhattan lobby, downstairs are dozens of tables, upstairs are sofas, TVs, video games and a red phone booth. Serving some of the finest cocktails in the city, opt for a hand-crafted drink, accompanied by some rosemary salted popcorn, and soak up the vibe.

I’ve had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Zetta on many occasions over the past few months. The accommodations are modern, clean, and comfortable. The front desk staff is always welcoming and friendly. I have referred friends and family to make their reservations here the next time they come to visit San Francisco.

The pandemic has really reduced this hotel to a Motel 6 level of comfort and amenities. The room was surprisingly small and cramped for two people, the beds were uncomfortable, and the decor was mundane. The wifi worked well. No housekeeping, but they brought fresh towels to our room when requested. It did not feel safe or comfortable to hang out in the lounge or public spaces and, of course, the restaurant and room service did not exist. What this hotel needs to address is the desk and rolling chair. The rolling chair is on the uncarpeted floor and I nearly fell once and my wife actually did fall on the floor when the chair scooted out from under her when she tried to sit on it. There needs to be a carpet or at least take the rollers off the chair; otherwise, there could be a serious accident. The staff was responsive when called but the feeling in the hotel was one of isolation of guests from the staff. The valet parking was satisfactory though expensive ($52 per night) and the car was not available between 10 p.m. or before 7 a.m. The bathroom is cramped but the shower works well. There's not enough counter space to place toilet items. The TV had no premium channels (like HBO or Showtime) and took up a lot of space in the room. The honor bar was stocked with booze but no juices or snacks. Overall, not as impressive, even given the pandemic and what it has done to the downtown - closed restaurants and lots of homeless people. Recommend you give this a look after San Francisco opens up. Otherwise, it is just an expensive Motel 6 withoutt any of the services and amenities you'd expect from an expensive hotel in the downtown. Read less

I visited the hotel Zeta as a quick overnight stop on my road trip. Even during the COVID pandemic, staff were nice, the design was trendy, and rooms featured nice amenities like espresso machines. However, a weird cleanliness issue really soured my visit. When I went to take a shower, I found fecal matter impacted into the nozzle of the handheld shower nozzle. It smelled terrible and would have sprayed on me if I had used that sprayer. I understand that this isn’t an area that maintenance probably checks regularly, but it was weird, disgusting, and made me feel unsafe in the room. When I went to check out, the front desk staffer was completely unresponsive and just said “sorry about that.” I’d never return, and it’s pretty hard to recommend a hotel with literal sh*t in the shower heads amidst a global pandemic. -Laura Read less

Hotel had a great atmosphere and the staff were exceptionally friendly and professional. I was in town for work and it's a in a great location. I highly recommend the Hotel bar - they've got great selection of gin and the bar manager was super cool to hang out with.
