Lovely room facing Geary St. We prefer the windows that open even if it is a bit noisy. The room smelled of old building...so we opened all the windows for a day or so. Small but efficient room. Decent water pressure and hot water in the shower.

Had an amazing experience while in town for Giants vs Dodgers divisional playoff game. We really were pleasantly surprised by the kind gestures and incredible suite provided for us. Jon Handlery’s personal touches were appreciated. Jayson and Kristy did a great job of making sure our stay was special. We will definitely be back!

The staff at the Handlery was really nice and helpful. The price was pretty cheap for San Francisco but you get what you pay for. We stayed in an older room that had seen better days. HVAC wouldn’t stay on and it was really musty. The room was also tiny. If you don’t care about that, it’s fine. My biggest issue is the area around it has gone… Read more

HVAC wouldn’t stay on and it was really musty. The room was also tiny. If you don’t care about that, it’s fine. My biggest issue is the area around it has gone majorly downhill. Sadly, most everything around there has closed. There is no food or drink in the hotel, and to get any, you have to walk pretty far through a cloud of vagrant funk, strung out screams and a few tent camps just to get a cup off coffee. We were supposed to stay five nights but left after two. It didn’t feel safe to walk around the area with my child. Keep in mind, I live inside the limits of a major city in a transitional neighborhood, I travel a lot and am scared of very little. I’ve also stayed in this area before and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad. I know the downfall of the area is in no way the fault of the hotel, San Francisco in general is dealing with the same thing and it’s bad all over. It just seems way worse in this area. Read less

A clean, efficient, basic lodge located in a convenient, safe location. If these are all you need for a short stay in San Francisco, then go to the Handlery Union Square Hotel. A slight inconvenience in accessing the second building, no hot tub soak and TV options are limited, but it met our needs and allowed us to splurge on some of the best… Read more

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Watch out for hidden fees.

Sep 29, 2021 AyyoMario Newnan, Georgia

Its a great hotel but the hidden fees is why I rate them with 3 stars. They takeout a $200 security deposit upon check-in. Then there’s a $60 daily fee for parking which is not included with the room & they will hold your car hostage until you pay the fee. None of the vending machines work in the hotel. They wont apply any discounts unless you… Read more
