We were booked in to this Hotel by our travel agent. Took her recommendation and it was worth it. Full of charm and character and very well maintained. Has an old world charm with modern convenience. Has such a rich history and right on Union Square easy access to cable cars. Would definitely go back.

I am the first to admit I was sceptical about staying here, all I saw in the most recent reviews was a fair amount of negativity but in fact, this hotel is great. We had a premier king room with a balcony, windows seem somewhat soundproof and the bathroom is fine, absolutely no noise. The staff have been helpful and friendly and we arrived to find a little gift bag in our room. We are also right on union square opposite the Westin and Macy’s. You really can’t go wrong! Great place to stay. Having just stayed at the Hyatt and not enjoying it, this hotel rates far better and far more quiet, clean and comfortable. Read less

My daughter and I stayed for 4 nights. Upon arrival we had to pay $200 for a security deposit. I find this so ridiculous and no one bothered to advise us before arrival. Anyway the room was nice, clean, TV picture was fuzzy, window facing a wall (no view whatsoever) and the extractor fan from the kitchen was really only the noise. In the room there is a coffee making machine, I don’t drink coffee and asked reception if they had a kettle, so I could make tea. They then asked for a $20 deposit for this. Which in my opinion after you’ve already paid for the room, put a $200 deposit down, why should you then have to put down another deposit for a kettle. It’s not like you can steal it, we’re on a different voltage in the UK!!! I refused to do this over principal and the two people on reception started to slag my daughter and I - off to each other - to which I asked them not to do that and that they were rude. I wouldn’t stay here again, purely as the staff are obnoxious. Why would you want to pay their wages when they can’t interact. There are some lovely hotels close by that I would use if I came again. The breakfast’s in the Daily Grill are lovely and so are the staff. Quick and efficient. To any future traveller staying here, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Go with a massive wallet of cash as the Handlery want deposits for everything! Read less

A 3 minute walk to the theatre. Great concierge showed us how to do San Francisco while we stayed there 3 nights for the play.
