They really need to sell out to a major luxury chain who would invest in this prime location. First and foremost, the saving grace is that the hotel is well situated for the shopping and well connected to get around the city. However the standards of the hotel fall below that required and paid for. It isn’t acceptable to provide old stiff towels that barely go around an average European body let alone a heavily invested American one. The basin only drained if you manually fished out the plug. The breakfast choices were very limited and to add insult, upon arrival Catherine Handlery kindly informs you (months after you booked and paid) that there may be a 35 min wait to be seated as the dining room is popular with non guests.......well Catherine, I say, give guests priority till say 9am. And then if you have travelled half way round the world and driven into the city on a bucket list tour, your budget needs to know that you will be paying something like $77 per day to park your car at your hotel. Reception didn’t say to unload at the front but directed us around the block to the underground car park, from where we dragged our luggage, a long way back to reception to check in. For me, the hotel was representative of a city that holds itself unjustifiably in high esteem. The city has little to offer beyond a bridge, an old disused prison and some quaint old cable cars. For the most part you will be confronted by a poorly kept city and an abundance of homeless people. Read less

When I pay more for a room I expect more. We had a terrible experience and provided the front desk with multiple contacts to make our stay adequate. Unfortunately, the AC did not work, housekeeping stole our pc and the overall condition of the hotel was dodgy and musty. Try somewhere else.

Location, location, location! The Handlrey is located near the trolley and is within walking distance to the fortune cookie shop. Macy’s was also very nearby. The hotel itself is older BUT the staff is awesome and friendly! Rooms were very clean. Will definitely return when in San Fran!
