Hilton San Francisco Union Square

Union Square, San Francisco

The hotel

One of the best addresses in town places this San Francisco hotel firmly on the map. Its Union Square setting means you’ve got the city’s most exclusive boutiques, Westfield’s big-brand shops, sightseeing highlights like cable cars and Moscone Center, and some of California’s swankiest dining, theatre and nightlife venues on your proverbial doorstep. It also grants you exceptional city views. The classically decorated guestrooms may be unfussy, but Hilton San Francisco Union Square’s anything but ‘standard’; its top-drawer location is matched by extras like the casual-meets-gourmet Herb ‘N Kitchen restaurant, and one of the city’s most elusive treats: a hotel pool. High on the 16th floor, the pool’s expanse of sunbathing space gives you ample space for a sightseeing hiatus, before you head off to nearby attractions.

We arrived into SFO and wanted to rest before heading out to Monterey. This hotel was just okay; but I didn't think it was worth the money. My booking.com reservation showed $280 for the room, but it ended up way more - they charged $60 to park our car at their hotel! This is something I have never heard of - usually parking is free with the purchase of a room everywhere we go, but it might be a city thing. Then they charge a $70+ refundable fee without telling you. I actually had to look at my booking to see whether I had really reserved such an expensive room. Only after I asked they explained that this would be refunded upon check out. My biggest complaint, however, was the sheets. They smelled. They smelled like they had been used by another person who didn't shower. I woke up to this smell and thought I was crazy. I smelled the pillow - it smelled like someone else's hair. Same for the sheet. Yuk! Every other hotel we stayed at had fresh smelling sheets, but not this one - one for the most expensive hotels we stayed at during our vacation. Read less

Great location, walkable to many sights and public transportation. Check in was easy. Room was clean and adequately sized given it is a city location. We really liked having the small couch in the room, it offered a place to sit and relax that was not the bed nor the desk chair. The gym was one of the largest I have seen in a hotel and it was filled to vapidity in the morning. The upper level bar was a great place to enjoy a glass of wine with a view after a day of sightseeing. Read less

This was a great stay in a great location. The accommodations were good and is a great location to a number of businesses. Everyone was helpful and provided any assistance needed. I had two reservations and was allowed to stay in the same room the total time.

The negative points were... Check in was slow. The rooms were tired and needed updating. The best things about the hotel is the location and the Cityscape Bar on the 46th floor in tower 1!! However certain times of the year there is a lot of fog so you might not get to see the amazing views!! The staff at the Cityscape Bar were very friendly!… Read more
