Hilton San Francisco Union Square

Union Square, San Francisco

The hotel

One of the best addresses in town places this San Francisco hotel firmly on the map. Its Union Square setting means you’ve got the city’s most exclusive boutiques, Westfield’s big-brand shops, sightseeing highlights like cable cars and Moscone Center, and some of California’s swankiest dining, theatre and nightlife venues on your proverbial doorstep. It also grants you exceptional city views. The classically decorated guestrooms may be unfussy, but Hilton San Francisco Union Square’s anything but ‘standard’; its top-drawer location is matched by extras like the casual-meets-gourmet Herb ‘N Kitchen restaurant, and one of the city’s most elusive treats: a hotel pool. High on the 16th floor, the pool’s expanse of sunbathing space gives you ample space for a sightseeing hiatus, before you head off to nearby attractions.

This is a very large hotel but with a staff who care! 2000 rooms all booked when we visited but the staff couldn’t be more helpful. Happy hour all day in the urban tavern but they close at 10:30. In line with the rest of downtown San Fran it is expensive, but good amenities great housekeeping and staff who care. Well done Hilton.

Lovely helpful people here - particular mention to David who checked us in and gave us a fabulous room with a view and to the charming lady in housekeeping who looked after our room so well.Respect to the Concierge who left on his own due to a colleague’s illness remained calm and helpful. The hotel is in a good location near Union Square. There are a lot of people sleeping rough or with mental health problems in the area but this may be true of San Francisco generally. The hotel was a bit too big and bustling for my liking but it served its purpose well. We loved Cityscape views - we did feel a bit rushed when we had finished our drinks and wanted to linger a while but maybe they were busy . One final comment - we felt a bit unsafe in the hotel one night when wakened from our sleep by a man banging on doors. It turned out it was a resident whose wife was asleep but it did unnerve us and spoiled our sleep. A plea to Hilton to have some sort of system which doesn’t allow travel to bedroom floors in the lifts unless you have a room key. We found this very effective in London and Vegas hotels we stayed in. All in all a great spot for city centre shopping etc . Read less

The accommodation was great but because we arrived at SFO early the rooms were not ready and coming off a long flight we were exhausted. They did take our luggage from us until a room was ready. The staff managed to get us one room of the three (3) booked after a few hours so we could all have a bit of a sleep on floor, lounge and bed. We made… Read more

The staff managed to get us one room of the three (3) booked after a few hours so we could all have a bit of a sleep on floor, lounge and bed. We made the mistake of walking out of the hotel after dropping in our luggage and turned left and unfortunately this took us in to the real bad areas of SFO which is not great to see after just arriving and then seeing this. Amazing though once we managed to have a rest and then turn right out of the hotel and had a totally different experience. Read less

Much larger than your standard room in SF. Requested more tea bags - no issue brought straight to the room. Beds made up lovely, towels changed,… Read more

I love staying in Hilton Hotels, the room was well appointed, location was good. Unknown to me at the time of booking, this is a very large hotel, this made the vibe very cold, I think this hotel is more suited for the conference professionals that it attracted and not really for tourists. The price of breakfast and the prices in the cafe downstairs were very high, this too reflected this was not really suitable for tourists but more for the conference people it attracts. Please note, this is a professional hotel just maybe a little too big for my personal liking. Read less
