The Marker Hotel - Union Square

Union Square, San Francisco

The hotel

With an address that puts it among some of San Francisco’s most fashionable theatres, restaurants, and sights (including Union Square, the Financial District and Moscone Convention Center), The Marker Hotel is a boutique base with a dynamism that suits its setting. Built in 1910, it’s held on to its ‘Beaux Art’ beauty, with its lobby showcasing features like a floor-to-ceiling fireplace and grand marble staircase. The hotel’s anything but olde-worlde though, with your Urban Fee (paid on arrival) covering modern touches like WiFi throughout, a fitness centre, use of the hotel bikes, and a Hydration Station providing fruit and herb infused water on tap. It also guarantees you an invite to the Living Room each morning for complimentary tea and coffee, and each evening for a social wine hour.

Read more

As we were with my kid, this was so inconvenient. Facility was so old and lavatory in our room was clogged up. Sadly we didn't get housekeeping even though we hung tag on door. When we told front desk this, the guy staff was just asked me what my room number is. THAT'S ALL. I felt really unfriendly and disappointed. One of staff brought towels to our room but they didn't look like folded properly. and they gave us only towels. no shampoos etc. Overall, we don't know what was resort fee for (maybe just for wifi? how expensive). They say they are 4 star hotel, but if you decided to stay this hotel, just do not think and expect so. You better pay little bit more and stay international hotel like Hilton if you wanna get proper service. Read less

It could have been better we were told our room would have a jacuzzi tub but when we got there it wasn’t. We really wish we could have enjoyed that experience the staff was very nice in the beginning.

Great customer service and clean and comfortable room. The only issue is the complimentary coffee is removed at 10:00 AM instead of leaving it out till 12:00. Also they should bring out coffee in the evening after 6:00 pm. They do offer complimentary wine for one hour which is nice. I do recommend this hotel. Great location and price.

The room was a decent size, but for me, the design is a bit over the top. The bathroom was large, which is great, but definitely had signs for wear and age. This was for business, and disappointed that there is no room service. Just a suggestion - need a fridge the customer can use, not one stuffed with things they want you to buy at exorbitant prices. I realize it's a revenue stream, and with no room service, you have a way to get snacks. No valet or anyone to help with luggage, and there are a few steps to lug up baggage. There are no outlets near the bed to charge iphone, ipad, etc. There is one USB port on the back of the clock, but in this day and age, one would expect convenient charging ports/location. Ultimately I guess I would prefer a full service hotel for the price. I fully realize I am probably being picky, but I travel constantly for business, so my standards are high. Read less

The Marker is central but borders on the Tenderloin. The staff were friendly, the room was nice, the bathroom was adequate. Upon booking through our travel agent we had upgraded to include breakfast, no breakfast so the advertising was outdated. All in all, fine and did the job.
