The cleanliness is not up to the standards I've come to know from W hotels around the world. During a pandemic, you would expect rooms to be even cleaner than pre-pandemic times, but that is not the case at this hotel. Based on the 3 rooms I stayed in during my week stay at the hotel, their cleanliness standards are awful. The first room: the shower detached from the wall and fell on my mother, the 2nd room bathroom was not cleaned to any level of cleanliness, and after being upgraded to a suite, we found grease finger prints and food oil spilled on the desk and counter. By this time, we were tired of re-packing our bags and moving so we just stayed in the room, but the manager personally had to come up and clean the grease and spilled oil. The hotel website says rooms have been recently renovated, but that is not true from what I've seen in the 3 rooms I stayed in. The furniture is scratched and looks old. The drawers and cabinet doors are hanging off of hinges and do not close properly. I am seriously considering switching my lifetime gold status to another hotel group. One thing for sure is I will never stay at another W hotel again after this experience. Read less

The location is pretty good(south of Market St), within a walking distance(1-2 blocks) from other Marriott's properties, such as St Regis & Marquis. The hotel itself is clean but I think it is about time for an upgrade. The customer service is above average and the pictures describing the property are enhanced :), but still got its charm.… Read more

Overall I recommend it, if you aren't paying over $200/night. Read less

So normally I wouldn’t think to stay at the W for work, but I must say this is my current favorite work hotel location in SF (& I go often enough that it’s become a bit of a game testing out new hotels). Pros: great location, easy for metro/bus/muni/etc if you are inclined, basic but functional gym (kinda feels like a weird space club but that’s… Read more

Pros: great location, easy for metro/bus/muni/etc if you are inclined, basic but functional gym (kinda feels like a weird space club but that’s cool every now and then, needs more free weights), rooms are sparse and very usable, the long desk for work and window seat were great, gorgeous bathrooms, sculptural headboard… (tl;dr it’s a beautiful modern hotel). Cons: their restaurant is only open Thursday-Sun and breakfast on the weekends which is completely useless to the work week traveler, area is a bit of a food desert at night and you’ve gotta commit to a 8+ min walk for coffee/tea, they only have coffee (I’m currently only drinking tea), zero view from my room (like 5 foot alleyway to the wall of the SFMoma (if you’re traveling for pleasure… inquire about a view). Would stay here again, hopefully with in-hotel dining available. Tip: Cafe Madeline around the corner has surprisingly good sandwiches, etc. Nice for a no fuss bite to eat. Read less

My husband thought he had booked a stay at a Westin. The room was beautiful, however it was dirty, like greasy handprint on the bathroom door, never dusted, slimy shower floor type of dirty. It was also extremely loud, not city noise, but you could hear music, hairdryers, and toilets flushing all hours of the day and night. Good thing we brought… Read more

It was also extremely loud, not city noise, but you could hear music, hairdryers, and toilets flushing all hours of the day and night. Good thing we brought ear plugs. However, nothing compared to the rude and inefficient valet staff. We waited 40 minutes just to give the valet keys. Read less
