W San Francisco

San Francisco, USA

The hotel

Something slightly different, and decidedly special, everything at this smart urban sanctuary has been designed to indulge. There’s the decadent Whatever/Whenever® Concierge service. There are the excitingly named guestrooms – from ‘Wonderful’ to ‘Extreme Wow’ – with their trademark touches including a Munchie Box and vibrant window banquettes. And there are the playful dining and drinking spaces, including The Living Room, an uber-stylish hangout packed with geometric shapes, colour-changing lighting, and cocktails, with DJs some nights and board games others. There’s the upscale Californian cuisine of TRACE on site, with organic ingredients that can be ‘traced’ back to the local fishermen, farmers and producers; but, as you’d expect from a district that has its own acronym, there are also plenty of trendy eateries in the surrounding SoMa area.

The hotel is right next to the Moscone Center where I was attending a convention. The room was great with a very nice setup and décor. The service is also exceptional with the employees going out of their way to see to your needs. I ordered room service and the food was excellent.

The location of this hotel is really great. A short walk to Chinatown, or to the Ferry Building. The rooms are small, but well laid out. The renovated rooms are nicely appointed...however there is no real place to put clothes, other than leaving them in the suitcase. The breakfast offered are really good.
Image of the Tripadvisor rating wonderful lunch, terrific, and speedy service.Damian was our waiter and served 14 people a lovely, delicious lunch!

Planned ahead with Travis Wilson--since we were a large group--every detail was perfect. The food was delicious--perfect menu for a group of "ladies who lunch". Location is very SFMOMA making it a perfect spot to dine after visiting the museum!

They awarded my Platinum status with a room upgrade (renovated room, top floor, corner room) + welcome points. The hotel participates in Green Choice, which is a nice way to help the environment while earning points. But I really dislike the dark lobby & its “club” vibe. There’s something that is simultaneously a little sleazy and a little sad. It doesn’t help that its down the block from a strip club. That being said, I’ll continue to stay at the W when the rate is lower than the Palace bc of its proximity to my office. Read less

Very nice staff. Room is so old with a lousy view of a building and no natural light (not their fault - it is a city after all). This may have been remedied if the room decor wasn’t so old. Reminded me of a cruise ship cabin from the 80’s. They are renovating though - which led to a prompt start of constant drilling at 9am on the dot in the middle… Read more

Reminded me of a cruise ship cabin from the 80’s. They are renovating though - which led to a prompt start of constant drilling at 9am on the dot in the middle of a conference call that I had to take from the room. One positive - room service breakfast was delicious. Not at all what I would expect from a W hotel. I was really looking forward to staying here and definitely disappointed. Hope the renovations help. Read less
