Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Montego Bay, Jamaica

The hotel

Lying on a beautiful, long stretch of private beach, the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa sits within 400 lush acres and is home to an 18th-century sugar plantation. A popular feature here is the iconic swimming pool but guests (kids' especially) also love the Sugar Mill Falls Waterpark, which is the largest in Jamaica. Why not grab a tube and float down the ‘lazy river’ or try one of the slides. There’s also a daily kids' club, leaving you with time to recharge in the full-service spa, or why not try out the Championship golf course. A variety of restaurant options with fine dining and sophisticated wine lists are on-site. The most romantic restaurant is the Three Palms, up on the hillside looking down over the hotel and the sea beyond.

I cannot speak for people with special dietary needs; but the food was great and was of adequate variety. The customer service great as well. There were clear proactive COVID-19 measures in place. The hotel is not at full capacity (as expected during the pandemic) so the ground is not very active, where activities are concerned. However activities… Read more

The current room keys are overly sensitive to electronic devices (cell phones will be the main culprit); so keep your phones away from them by all means. The customer service personnel told me that they are looking into rectifying said. Read less

The staff at this resort is the best part of the trip. Every employee that we met was extremely friendly and always willing to help. Natalie at the concierge desk did everything she could to help us have a good time. The resort grounds are spotless and very well maintained. We had no concerns about cleanliness and our health. Unfortunately, those are the only good things about this property. The rooms are very small. They are the size of a value resort room in Disney. They advertise that the beds are queen size, but they are not. They are double beds. With a family of 4, trying to get showered and ready for dinner was a pain. The bathroom is tiny and there was only one mirror in the room. The food was good, but nothing special. Typical all inclusive breakfast and lunches. Dinner was jerk chicken and jerk pork just about every night. We went to Luna several times looking for Italian food on the menu but they never had it. If you are good with cheeseburgers and jerk chicken, you will be OK with food. Drinks were always served with a smile, but nothing different than any other all inclusive. The pool and lazy river were very clean. The swim up bar in the lazy river is closed. I guess due to COVID. The nightly entertainment got better as the week progressed. We almost left after the first night. There was nothing to do at all. We got done dinner at 6 and there was absolutely nothing. We decided to stay and the nightly entertainment got better as the week went along. The main reason that we will not return to this property is the beach / ocean. It is saturated with sea grass. If you are looking for white sand beaches and clear water, do not come to this resort. There is so much sea grass that they use a front end loader to remove it from the beach and there are employees raking the beach all day. The sea grass in the water is so bad that we had to wash it out of our bathing suits after going in the water. The section of the beach near the kayaks and sail boats is all rocks. You will hurt your feet if you go there to sign out kayaks or sail boats. If you are travelling with kids, be prepared to explain to them what marijuana smells like. It can be smelled in every area of the resort. We could smell it on our balcony, at the beach, at the water park and at the bar. The staff does not prohibit marijuana use. If you are OK with it, then it is no problem mon. I strongly disagree with the resorts deceptive pricing policy. We booked on line. When I made the reservation, I entered the information for a family of four. Two adults and two kids. When I got the price of $1900, I booked the trip. When I got to the resort, I was told that the price quoted did not include the kids. I had to pay an additional $600 for the kids. Why does the price quote not include the kids ? All of their information was included when I requested a quote. We have stayed at several other all inclusive resorts and they always give up front prices. This a terrible way to do business. If you are considering staying at this resort, make sure you know the real price. I read a lot of reviews about how good the staff is, and they are accurate. But you can find that at a lot of resorts. In my opinion, the negatives greatly outweigh the positives and we will not return to this property. Read less

Sanitizing your hands and wearing a mass was mandatory and I loved it. The staff took every precaution to ensure that our food was made safely in a clean environment and we never felt as if our health was being compromised. We were skeptical about taking a trip so soon after the restrictions were lifted but I can say by far that we felt more safe here than we have in the States in months. We will definitely revisit here again and by the way the general manager was recognized by the Prime Minister with high regards if that says anything, you should definitely stay here. Read less

I planned a trip to Jamaica as a birthday celebration and originally booked Riu Reggae. I obviously read the reviews prior to booking but I also checked the reviews a day before our trip. Unfortunately there were more negative reviews than positive for that resort as of late. I immediately started searching for a different resort because I mean why would the reviewers lie (lol!) I decided on The Hilton Rose because I generally book Hilton hotels when I’m in the states (not sure how I missed the Montego Bay Resort initially). Anyway, THANK GOD FOR THE BAD REVIEWS AT THE RIU REGGAE BECAUSE THE HILTON ROSE WAS PERECT! The Hilton Rose Resort was beautiful and the food was great. The bars had a wide variety of alcoholic beverages and get this...their swim up bar was open (I’ve read quite a few reviews for other resorts that didn’t have their swim up bars open). What made our experience even better was the amazing hospitality! The workers were pleasant and attentive day in and day out. The lazy river was so relaxing that my husband and I spent most of our time in it. The entertainment was just right. I can appreciate that the entertainment ended before 10, which allowed us to enjoy the peaceful nights. What I’m sure most people are worried about these days is COVID-19 precautions. The resort has hand sanitizer stations everywhere, the public bathrooms were super clean (I couldn’t believe how clean they were on such a consistent basis), the workers wore masks everywhere and guests are required to wear masks indoors (especially in restaurants/buffet). If I just had to nitpick, I’d say that the rooms could use some cosmetic updates (they’re still clean!) but realistically we were only in our room for sleeping. The rest of the resort was just fine. Thank you for everything and I will most certainly be back! Read less
