Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa

Montego Bay, Jamaica

The hotel

Lying on a beautiful, long stretch of private beach, the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa sits within 400 lush acres and is home to an 18th-century sugar plantation. A popular feature here is the iconic swimming pool but guests (kids' especially) also love the Sugar Mill Falls Waterpark, which is the largest in Jamaica. Why not grab a tube and float down the ‘lazy river’ or try one of the slides. There’s also a daily kids' club, leaving you with time to recharge in the full-service spa, or why not try out the Championship golf course. My daughter loved every minute being around her, she is a true gem. I can not also forget Arlene the lady who organize's the spa outside, she was phenomenal went out of her way for us always. The food was good and the water slide and entertainment was fun! Alton you the man! Covid protocols were great, things were scaled down as expected but still decent amount of things to do. Rooms are basic but nice and clean, coffee shop good. Should have a better game room for the kids but other wise a fantastic time. Mr Oneil cleaning the beach should get a raise, What a hard worker. My hats off too all the employees again ....Great Place Read less

Coming to this resort was the best decision we could have made! The staff at Hilton Rose Hall is amazing and they are taking every precatuion during the pandemic. From sanitizing luggage when you arrive (Let's face it, that's probably not where you are going to contract Covid, but at least they are trying!) to 100% staff compliance with mask wearing, guests wearing masks, hand santiziers everywhere, and many outdoor dining options, we always felt comfortable at the resort! Also occupancy is very low right now, so there was always plenty of room to spread out away from others. The entertainment staff is excellent here and they were always around to help you have fun, but they weren't in your face either like we have experienced at other resorts. Alton was funny, kind, and joyful at all times! Another employee that just really stood out to me was O'Neal (not sure on spelling) who raked the far beach. One day there were only 2 families on that whole entire beach, and this man worked tirelessly to clean up seaweed, rake the sand, etc. He truly had such an amazing work ethic. If he wasn't grooming the grounds, he was stopping by to see if he could do anything to make our visit more comfortable. He is a GEM. I found the staff here did not adhere to "island time" like many places we have stayed. Maybe it is because of the low occupancy, or maybe this is just the culture of the hotel and management, but all our requests were met quite quickly comparatively to other places we have traveled in Jamaica. One night we ordered room service and were told 35 minutes, and our food was at our door in 12! A few things to be aware of, the "flush" on the toilets in the rooms was pittiful. Like, really, really bad. A maintenance project they could be working on while occupancy is low is replacing tile that is coming loose at the swim up bar and identifying the bad smell coming from that bar as well. It smelled like rotten fruit. Maybe the drains could be cleaned out? Also worth noting, one window of the swim up bar is open to order drinks, however you are discouraged from sitting in the swim up bar area. This is part of the COVID-19 safety protocol. you are urged to get your drink and boogie. Finally, this is not a complaint but something for guests to be aware of, because of reduced occupancy, dining options are limited. That does NOT mean there isn't variety, but it just may not be what you were expecting. When we checked in we were told Luna was only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, so we made reservations for Thursday and Friday... then through the week we saw it open several other nights. I'm not sure where the communication broke down there. The buffet was open all nights. One night was an Asian night and was served a la carte, but in the Fresh buffet outdoor area. That was one of our favorite meals. Also one night we didn't really see anything that appealed to us, and they brought us the menu from Moonstone and were able to take a la cart orders from that menu in the buffet area. Breakfast was always at the buffet and was great. The chocolate croissants were amazing. Lunch is where the resort shines in my opinion. There are so many tasty local options. At Mangoes by the pool our favorites were the beef and chicken patties, and the Roti. The Jerk Chicken and Pork available at Mangoes or Seaside were wonderful... though fair warning... on 3 different days I ordered jerk pork and it was wildy different each time. One time it was like a pork chop cut up with jerk sauce, one day it was like slow cooked/braised rib meat and fall apart tender and so spicy I broke a sweat, and one day it was like slices of ham tossed in bbq sauce with a hint of jerk. Good each time, but wildly different which came as a surprise. Other dining options worth mentioning are the Coffee Shop which makes fantastic drinks all day and evening, and 24 hour room service which is currently included for all guests. Overall, this week was amazing and flew by! If I had it to do over, the only thing I would change is I would book for 2 weeks instead of one! Read less

The Luna di Mare has a great Head Chief Chin-O willing to learn new recipes guests suggest, and Michael the Restaurant Manager is very welcoming. The Spa service deep tissue massage helped with my joint pain. Great that if you stay there 3 days or more, you are scheduled for a free Covid test which is conducted on the 1st floor in a hallway near the restrooms. Results are available one day later. I was there last week I for my birthday and I had a wonderful time overall. My third time at the resort so I could spot the difference due to covid. The resort in general has excellent protocol you wear masks in common areas and everything is distanced well so social distancing is very easy plus the resort is pretty spacious so we were rarely nearby anybody. The resort and the room. Amazing as usual. Very clean and people were working as early as 5:30 when I went to go watch the sunrise so by the time breakfast the place is immaculate especially the beach and the pool sides. Food The options were understandably limited by we still found great items to indulge in. Breakfast buffet, pizzeria and the other lunch spots and room service were delish. Dinner at Moonsone was limited but had the pasta and a salad it was good. Having only two restaurants for dinner thou I missed the variety. Service Was okay overall. We were greeted well, check in was quick and easy. Our room attendant and the servers by breakfast buffet and the lunch restaurants were amazing I wished I had remembered their names to put here. Also shoutout to Anthony at the photo desk, really helpful and nice when we went to view and print out our pictures. The only issue I had was that we had made reservations at Luna. We arrived a little late for dinner about 45mins before they were scheduled to close we weren't really hungry do we still went to maybe do a quick main course if the pleased us and dessert because there was entertainment going on outside. Nevertheless I had the WORST dining experience I had ever had anywhere. When the server Colin came out and saw that we were seated in his section we could hear nothing but expletives because we were seated next to the service station. As if that did not express his displeasure the way our cutlery and the other stuff hit our table did. Throughout our ordering it was all attitude and when he left the table the expletives continued and surprise we are Jamaicans so we understood every word. I was going to request another server but as service professional I was so disgusted I just asked for my dinner to go and left on top of that it was my birthday and I was going allow him to spoil my night. Additionally, not a big deal but it was little disappointing. It was the first resort I have ever stayed at especially on my actual birthday and it was not celebrated with a dessert, card or something. My friend had apparently told the front desk agent at check-in and she said the concierge usually takes care of it and she would pass on the information. When I even made my birthday dinner reservation the person asked we if I was celebrating and I told her and still nothing so that may be something the resort considers for the future or maybe it was just me. Overall the resort itself was too beautiful with the beach, the pools, the waterpark and stuff for me not to have a good time so despite those things I mentioned I still had a wonderful time. I still love the resort so I will continue to go back but customer service could definitely use some work because Jamaica does not lack pretty places we usually choose Hilton for the vibe. Read less
