I’m a Coeliac and there were plenty of options for me - the staff were very accommodating. The spa is stunning and we both enjoyed a beautiful relaxing massage. The resort grounds are so lovely and the beach is just across the road. But I think it was the staff that made our stay so special. They knew all of us by name and were so helpful keeping our little boy entertained. Special shoutouts to Choco, Ian, Sue, Katty, Aung, Tan, the kids club staff - all the staff were outstanding and it made such a difference to our stay. It was a very memorable first family holiday. We stayed at the slate for a few nights in April. The hotel is lovely, the staff are lovely & the food is amazing (with the exception of Black Ginger!). I had 2 amazing massages- highly recommend! However, the hotel is just not my kind of place, but that’s purely personal opinion/ preference. I found the rooms really dark, the outside area (family room- ground floor) was just concrete/ hard furnishings- nothing about it made me want to actually sit outside. A black bathtub in the middle of the room- just a bit strange. The pools were busy (although never had an issue getting a bed!). I didn’t like the bar, for pre-dinner drinks. It would be nice to have a non-sports bar option. We ate in Black Ginger one night. The food was not great, service not great & I got eaten by mosquitoes. It was overpriced & gimicky! I personally prefer smaller hotels, and I feel if you’re in Phuket, it’s nice to be on the beach (with a hotel beach bar!). The hotel shop was obscenely expensive!!! I wouldn’t return. Saying all this though- the kids loved it! Read less

Very relaxing hotel. Sit back. Do nothing. Let time skip away. The staff is some of the best hosts I have encountered in all my travels. I really only left the property to go see the sunset on the beach. Everything you could possibly need is on site.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at The Slate. We were luck enough to be staying in one of the Family Villas which meant we had a wonderful butler helping us out throughout our stay. Nim was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. We were a family of 5- 2 adults and 3 kids. It was a wonderful family environment. The staff were so friendly and welcoming in all locations we came across them. Food Breakfast at Tin Mine restaurant was a delight, with a huge variety of options. Nothing ever ran out for long, no long queues and delicious food. We also ate at The Underground cafe for lunch and had snacks and drinks at the Tongkah mine Sports bar. We had one meal at Black Ginger which was amazing- they catered for even the youngest member of our family with no problems! Facilities We used the kids club a few times. Our son enjoyed Pizza making, Crab hunting and sand castle building. There were so many activities to choose from on a daily basis. We used the gym and also had a boxing lesson which was a lot of fun. We made use of the water sports facilities, using the paddles boards a few times. The beach itself is a very short walk from the hotel and is beautiful. The only time it seemed super busy was the weekend of Thai new year. Other than that, there were plenty of loungers and places to eat. There were some stunning sunsets to see! The hotel was an absolute delight to stay in. They ran shuttle buses and services to other locations and also helped organise excursions if needed. We took a taxi to Phuket Old Town Night market which we really enjoyed walking around and sampling the various street foods on offer. I would not hesitate to recommend the hotel and hope we get to visit again soon! Read less

I don’t understand the hype over this resort. Have just returned from a two nights stay based on the great reviews. True it has amazing swimming pools and the staff are excellent but that’s where the five star quality ended for me. I found the dark rooms sparse and depressing, accessed along concrete blocks. The whole resort feels huge and impersonal. Breakfasts are tasty but the restaurant feels like a massive canteen. If you are looking for somewhere authentically Thai then I would look somewhere else.
