The Drake Hotel

Chicago, USA

The hotel

The Drake Hotel is in the finest location in Chicago, situated at the very tip of the Magnificent Mile Neighbourhood, and located right in front of Oak Street Beach overlooking Lake Michigan. It hasn’t lost any of the glitz or traditions which drew in Chicago’s glitterati for its grand opening on New Year’s Eve in 1920, and in the decades which followed. It still hosts High Tea, with its delicate petit fours and fragrant teas now served in the appropriately decadent Palm Court. You can still dine (and drink) at Coq d’Or, the city’s second venue to get that all-important liquor license after Prohibition ended in 1933. A milestone on The Magnificent Mile, with direct access Lake Michigan’s Oak Street Beach, be prepared for drama, history and luxury.

The person at the check in desk didn’t offer to help with my request. Then I checked into the room, and the room had paint flaking off the ceiling. Additionally the air conditioning did not work and it was uncomfortably warm in the room. We were disappointed that the hotel no longer offered in room dining, we were frustrated at the lack of ability to communicate with anybody (the phone forwarded to a third party who had no idea what they were doing), and disgusted by the cleanliness of the room (we found somebody’s mascara brush on the floor). When we checked out the next morning, there were beer bottles in our elevator and near the valet station. If I could “undo” my choice to stay at the hotel, I would choose that in a second. Read less

Stay was not great, booked a premium king and got a queen sized room and was told there was nothing they could do about it. The women at the front desk I had to deal with was incredubally rude and not helpful at all. Not the kind of service you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Very disappointing.

Great Staycation spot! Wonderful Historical Hotel. Make sure that you chat up Pancho who works in the Bar/ restaurant . As I waited for my order he shared great stories about the Drake! It is close to the shopping areas and there’s a church across the street, so peaceful and overall calming experience!

Justin was a great waiter and I enjoyed his serving. He was so fun to talk to and his service was great! He talked to us very kindly and was very friendly. I was very pleased with his conversation starters.
