The Marker Hotel - Union Square

Union Square, San Francisco

Virgin rating

The hotel

Put yourself slap-bang in the middle of some of San Francisco’s most fashionable theatres, restaurants, and sights. The boutique Marker Hotel is a great base — and its energy matches its setting. It was built in 1910 but you can still see its ‘Beaux Arts’ beauty in the lobby’s floor-to-ceiling fireplace and grand marble staircase. The hotel’s anything but olde-worlde though, with little touches like WiFi, a Hydration Station providing fruit and herb infused water on tap, and a social wine hour each evening.

This hotel looks great on pictures, but is not as grand. Rooms only had a basic renovation and are pretty small. Windows were so dirty on the outside that it was hard to look outside. The lobby looks nice but is also basic. Watch out for the amenities package in the small prints, you get charged $30 a day for really bad coffee! I do not recommend… Read more

Its near union square and the theatres. Head up Geary and you start getting into the sketchy tenderloin disctrict, but there are some great bars there if you are brave. My stay was great except at the end -- the service desk guy told me that a taxi to Stanford / Palo Alto would be about $70 (same as the uber was gonna cost), but it ended up being… Read more

No parking, no valet, no concierge, no room service, no bellman, no bar& lounge, no designated loading/unloading area in front. Overwhelmed front desk staff-only person on duty at any given time. No Manager on duty over the weekend or in the evening after 5pm.

My girlfriend and I went to stay for one night and had a horrible experience. We were given the key into the wrong room and then told it was our fault then they said they wouldn’t charge a resort fee.

Stayed at the Marker for several nights in July and left covered in bites from bed bugs. Completely unacceptable. As soon as I arrived home I washed and DRYED everything I owned, luckily no signs that the travelled home with me.
