Dear readers, I personally do not like long reviews, but I would like you to understand what happen with us in Barbados. It is a good learning what might wait for you in a upcoming trip. A little bit pre-history. We love Caribbean vacations and went to more than 9 counties in Caribbean multiple times. We try to stay in all inclusive 5 star hotels. However, we have never been in Antigua or Barbados and I thought this is the time to see something new. Especially now when my husband was diagnosed with dementia it could be the last trip together. Knowing situation with COVID we went to have Covid test done in Canada for people without symptoms and confirmed that test results will be ready in 3-5 business days. Great. Our results came negative and we were ready to fly. Unfortunately during our waiting time all packages were sold to Antigua for the day we needed. So, next choice was expensive Barbados (all inclusive 7 days) that cost us more than even Aruba. I decided, ok, basically our last vacation together, I can use my savings, and we bought tickets. Exited about trip, we came to airport and flu to Bridgetown. As soon as we arrived, airport officials started requesting COVID results from passengers. I was sure that we are ready and can be on time for our transfer to hotel. But everything turned opposite. Our papers with negative results were 7 days old, which is not acceptable by Barbados officials. They require test to be the oldest in 72 hours. 72 hours? 3 days. How it is possible if test in Toronto can be done in 3-5 business days. Nobody in Barbados synchronized days with other countries. Ok. We were sent to the special line to have test done in airport. Nobody was really listening us, they just placed us in a waiting list completing tons of paper work manually. So, it took us another 3 hours to wait for test to be done where one of the officers stuff assured me that we will be taken to our hotel ‘Waves’ hotel and will be on quarantine for 2 days. In two days we will need to have second test, and after good results will be allowed to go outside. 😮😩 This is not the end of the story yet. This is just a beginning. As a result of waiting test we missed our transfer to hotel and were taken by driver for 40 US dollars. We finally arrived to our destination hotel by 11:30 pm. I happily thought that we can relax and rest.... No, it is not so easy in Barbados. Hotel administrator came to us and explain that we cannot stay in hotel that we booked (please notice that it is opposite to what government official in airport told us). We need to go to another hotel where we will be on quarantine for number of day until negative results received. We stayed in this outdated hotel, allowed to go to the pool, but not to the beautiful ocean that we could watch outside. Torcher continues. Next day we received negative results from first test in airport. We were honestly taking temperature morning and night as promised and our hotel staff even organized transportation To go to policlinic to take second test hoping to start real vacation was not eliminated even when it was already 3 days of wasted time. They did test in policlinic and said that it will be ready in 24 hours. Next day I packed again and was ready to leave after receiving test results. Dear readers, results did not arrive. I went to ask front desk and they with the same attitude started to blame me that I said that second test needed to be done in 2 days, not 3. That real second test needed to be done in 3 days. Welcome to my feelings. They accuse me in lying when they misinformed me everywhere. In the mean time I saw that 3 other ‘prisoners’ were checking out, I asked them when they arrived? The answer was that they arrived same day as we did, they did second test same time as we did, they received negative results and were allowed to go to destination ‘Waves’ hotel. So, who was lying? I started to cry ..... it was last drop in the ocean of emotions. Hotel manager was sorry about it, but did not help us to receive results from second test even though I asked multiple times. She wanted to help and arranged with the ministry visit of the doctor next day that could take test and accelerate results. She also confirmed that we can go to the ocean to swim. Thanks GOD!. Beautiful beach without any person close to 300 m. Thursday, which was 5th day, doctor came to take test. Results finally came on Friday. Of course negative. And we happily left ‘prison’ to hotel that we bought. Basically we had left 1 full day – Saturday to enjoy our most expensive vacation. Do you think this is all? Just wait… On arrival hotel explained us that there is no water and provided many bottles of water to use for washing. It might happen, so it did not disappoint us. Saturday cam, last day of our vacation and we are trying to enjoy freedom, good food and swimming as much as we could. Unfortunately water pipes were not repaired and hotel administration suggested relocating to another hotel. For us it was not acceptable since we were leaving next day and arrived only yesterday. However, they organized bus for some people to to another hotel to take shower. This option was very good for us. Bus took us to another hotel and explained that will be waiting for us to take all passengers back. Everyone in the meantime went for shower but they could not find room for us. Local admin asked us to wait. We waited and waited until finally she placed us to the room where we can take shower. Please take in consideration that my husband has dementia and to take close off and on takes time and effort. To our surprise, when we were ready to start shower, we realized that there is no shower had or hand shower…. Bathroom did not have water at all. OMG. Unfortunate evens continue…. They finally found another room where we took shower and run to our bus. To our surprise there was no bus. and manager explained to use that driver could not wait for us, he left, but will come back to pick us up soon. I was so tired from and asked to order taxi to go to our hotel by our own expense. Thanks God I did it. When we arrived and explained what happened, Waves manager apologized and said that they were informed differently: She explained that driver was asked to leave without us and they promise to him to send us by taxi complimentary…. Is it normal for Barbados? I do not know. There are many good people and good service, but my impression was that this is part of the culture, I might be wrong and I do not want to generalize. Our manager compensated us with expense and we left home next day. Do you like this experience? Do you think we feel rested? Do you think one day vacation with shower trip is good enough for the money we paid? Think twice before going to Barbados with the Covid 19 restrictions. Make sure you read all small fonts in government papers if you want to go. Make sure you read last documents because they are changing constantly. Make sure you understand what to expect. Otherwise your vacation might turn to nightmare like ours. Read less

I cannot give this hotel enough praise, or Treasure Beach by extension. The staff were attentive and kind, all going the extra mile. The food was to die for, the room was amazing, the spa was pure luxury, I could go on. The pools were spotless - the entire place was. Even small details were covered. Whenever I go abroad I try to visit new places when returning to a country, but when I return to Barbados I will be staying at Waves again. The beach is well looked after and gorgeous, and because it's on the West Coast the sea is calm even during rainy season. Read less

It's worth going through the admin and testing to get to Barbados....I'll say no more about that as it is what it is. We quarantined at Treasure Beach and it was the right decision as we are able to use the amenities with others who were also quarantining. The pool area was really comfortable with poolside drinks service. The room was nice (a comparable one to what we paid for at Waves). The downside was the food - eating out of cardboard boxes in the room became tiresome very quickly. Service was slow (I think the hotel was just getting used to the new procedures). However the staff were great - Lisa in particular. We'd do this again if needed. We had a fantastic oceanfront room at Waves. A stunning view. Stunning. Great sunsets. We chose to have for daily room servicing and it was great to have that option. We enjoyed the hotel, in particular the staff were fantastic, and the spa was amazing, even with the limited services. The beach is small, accessed down a staircase, but loungers were available and easy to find (no cushions though), beach service for drinks was frequent and the motorised watersports were fun (particularly duelling donuts)! The food was all a-la-carte and always good. Lunch was sometimes too fancy so you can also order simpler items from the coffee shop menu (salads and sandwiches) - it would have been good if those items were included on the restaurant menu. The quality of food was always excellent and it's always under the watchful eye of pesky birds ready to grab anything you leave behind. Service could be slow but it wasn't tooooo bad. We would definitely return. Other comments: - The road dividing the hotel is an issue for me. It just put me off using the adult pool. It felt like leaving the resort and going somewhere else. Luckily the oceanside had all the facilities I need (except the spa). - I was not a fan of the pool on the oceanside. It's very enclosed and the views are basically of hotel walls and windows. It was peaceful though. I think that space would be better as the yoga/exercise deck with the pool overlooking the ocean where the exercise deck currently is. - I think the bar could be improved (it's just a little plain). So while I rate service, cleanliness and sleep quality as five, these are what lower my overall rating to four. Read less
