The hotel

They may call themselves a ‘base camp’, but that’s definitely only in spirit — not in style. Thanks to its location, Banff Aspen Lodge is favoured by those wanting to pitch up and experience all the attractions of this popular ski and spa town, from its snow sports to its famous hot springs. But its style is far from ‘base camp’. Smart and swanky, its rustic-meets-chic décor is matched by a series of extra touches that make an ‘outdoorsy’ holiday uncharacteristically comfortable, like complimentary WiFi, ski and bike storage, the coffee and cake-stocked Whitebark Café, and a steam room and sauna for soothing adventure-weary muscles. In the heart of Downtown Banff, a short stroll to local restaurants, museums, shopping and galleries. Transfer time from Calgary Airport: 1 hour 30 minutes.

Superior Rooms are equipped with a balcony or patio and feature 1 queen-size bed, sleeping maximum 2 adults.

Premium Rooms are more spacious and feature a balcony or patio, with either 1 queen-size bed and 2 single beds or 2 queen-size beds, sleeping maximum 4 adults or 2 adults and 2 children.

Breakfast Room serving a variety of hot and cold breakfast items including house-made granola and baked goods. Whitebark Cafe serving organic coffee and premium tea along with pastries and baked goods. 2 outdoor hot tubs with an outdoor fireplace. Steam room and sauna. Complimentary WiFi access. The staff were lovely! We were allowed an early check in and parking was super easy and convenient. The room we stayed in was quite large with a decent sized balcony and nice view of the mountains! Would definitely stay at the Banff Aspen Lodge again!

The hotel’s ambiance set the tone for a memorable stay. Our room was impeccably clean, spacious and has a stunning view of the Rockies. Our stay exceeded my expectation.

The Banff Aspen Lodge far exceeded my original expectations for a 2 week ski vacation ( solo) in every respect. From check in by Stephanie ( who has continued to go out of her way to help me for the entire 2 weeks) this hotel really “ delivered “ for me . The breakfast is amazing, with superb staff who are quietly efficient, welcoming and sincere. The breakfast, including fresh fruit mix yogurt & cereal as my own healthy option , oodles of coffee and juices served to the table too. Plus cooked breakfast variations. My room ( 240) superior double and balcony gave terrific views of sunrise & sunset over the mountains too. Bathroom superb. Easy control heating too. Small fridge , desk chairs and sofa. I wanted for nothing. The courtyard hot whirlpool baths really helped after my ski days at Sunshine and Lake Louise, bus stops about 50 metres away. Housekeeping very good too, if not used daily the complimentary hot drink in White Bark cafe ( inside or outside with the warming fire) all provided that relaxation. When checking-in, I had mistakenly made a double reservation. I canceled the first reservation. The second reservation I put my first name as my surname. I was denied my room, due to my name on the reservation was not matching my ID. When checking-in, I had mistakenly made a double reservation. I canceled the first reservation. The second reservation I put my first name as my surname. I was denied my room, due to my name on the reservation was not matching my ID. I prepaid via booking.com, showed front desk my proof of invoice and presenting the same credit card used for the booking. I asked if there were any other rooms available in the hotel and was told they were full! The Manager Ron... had no idea of how to resolve the situation, so here are some suggestions as this is bound to happen in the future. 1) Verify with your owns eye what the guest is trying to show you 2) Check the invoice which indicates the payers name and credit information 3) Verify that the guests ID and Credit card information is matching. When i was trying check into a room that I had made a reservation and prepaid, how is it possible the hotel is full when one of those room bookings is for me?! Read less

When we arrived there was make up and hair on our sheets. We asked for the sheets to be changed and they came and handed us sheets instead of changing them themselves. When we arrived there was make up and hair on our sheets. We asked for the sheets to be changed and they came and handed us sheets instead of changing them themselves. I was in shock and trying to get my tired toddler to bed so we just changed the sheets. The next day in better light we see evidence of bed bugs on the top sheet that we didn’t use (many small blood spots - old blood not new) we scanned the room for bed bugs and didn’t see any so were just more grossed out than anything. I had to rush out to work. Once I was done work I provided lengthy feedback and asked for a discount. The manager told me it was my fault for not explicitly asking to be changed rooms. I received no discount, and was told I could’ve changed rooms At any point. I could not have, as I was at work and also trying to juggle my young family, it seemed kind of insane that it wasn’t their default response upon hearing my feedback at either times. Don’t stay here, it’s kind of gross. Read less
