TripAdvisor Traveller Rating:
We booked this holiday with British Airways Holidays, we got an excellent deal on flights and accomodation, the cost of the flights alone was virtually the same cost as the total holiday. We booked a... Read more Deluxe Studio room. On arriving at the hotel we had a friendly welcome, and were taken to our room via golf buggy, only necessary on this occasion as we had our luggage with us, otherwise the hill and stairs are not a problem if you are reasonably fit and healthy! Our room was in the Mambo section (the rooms/villas are in groups of 4 set out along the hillside) All the rooms look out over the beautiful bay of Grand Anse and towards the capital St. Georges. Unfortunately we had power lines directly in front of the room-balcony which was a shame but not enough to spoil the view or bother about for us. Based on the price we paid, and our expectations therefore, we were pleasantly surprised. On entering the room we found a decent enough bathroom with overhead shower. Kitchenette with basic facilities (kettle as standard would be good though) and a good size bedroom with large bed, desk and old school TV (but more channels than other carribean hotels we have been to) Leading out to a good size balcony with table and chairs and a sun lounger. The room had an adjoining door inside and on the balcony if you were holidaying with family/friends. Not normally keen on having a room like this but to be fair never heard any noise from the adjoining room. As on our first night we did not arrive till late we had drinks and a bite to eat at the sports bar, which was well priced and good pub style grub. Give the wine a miss though! The beer is good, and the cocktails, apart from the next day! We dined at the restaurant one day for lunch, and another for dinner. The service by some was very friendly. Another lady was not so happy that I was changing chairs around as some had bird poo on the covers, I thought that seemed fair enough! I also asked for a sparkling water which they didnt have so gave me a club soda. It tasted exactly the same as the tap water we were given! However the Vegetable Roti and Salad my partner had were great. As were the dinner options we had in the evening. We didnt hang about on the beach a lot, but when we did there were always loungers, as the hotel is on the far end of Grand Anse it is a lovely quiet spot, unlike some of the larger hotels along the beach, we thought this was the best spot along Grand Anse. Not only did you have those sweeping views of the bay from the hotel but you had the most peaceful spot on the beach. We did have some people trying to sell beads etc but nothing like on some beaches in the carribean. It is also only a short walk over the hill to Morne Rouge beach which is a lovely sheltered bay, particularly nice for swimming when its a bit choppier. My husband used Dive Grenada, the hotels dive shop, twice, whilst there and can not speak highly enough about the staff and service received. Highly recommended (seperate review from him to follow!) We also hired a car through the hotel which was of a very good standard, great people who dropped the car off to us at the hotel, and collected it when we were finished. A great way to see the island and explore in your own time. Grenada is a wonderful island and, the friendliest people we have met in the Carribean so far. For the overall service, quality and value for money we would most certainly recommend this hotel. We arrived at the hotel expecting less and left feeling we had received fantastic value. Read less
The hotel is placed high up on a hillside above the southern tip of Grand Anse beach. This is bad in 2 ways. Firstly, everywhere is a steep walk down or up. The restaurant is by the beach and... Read more all the rooms are much higher up. The hotel does have some golf carts but this isnt sufficient to get around, forget this hotel unless you want or need regular exercise. Secondly, Grand Anse is normally associated with a very quiet almost wave free existance. The location of this hotel means unlike the rest of the beach, it gets real waves, when 500 metres away its calm. Not a beach area for children. Also some of the stairs arent particularly safe for them. Some of the staff - not all - are a surly lot. At breakfast you will see 3 or more of the, in deep discussion on the party they are going to, breaking off to ask people to sign for their food, and studiously avoiding anyone wanting something special from them - like coffee. In a week i had to wait about 15 mins on average for this priviledge, when there were 3-4 staff and avout the same number of diners... The food is average. Nothing bad, but not very interesting, especially at breakfast. Prices are surprisingly high for what is a fairly humble place. The rooms are functional, clean and well maintained. Not very tropical in look however. The views are a bit spoiled in some rooms by the closeness of power lines. Ask for the highest rooms for best views, but this means the longest walks. In the vicinity of this hotel are a number of much nicer places, some no more expensive. On friday and saturday nights there is a lot of noise from people going to the night club in the nearby morne rouge beach. Read less
The room itself was really a 3, maybe a 3.5, and I'm not picky. But the rating gets a big boost for the high view of Grand Anse Beach and the simple fact this is Grenada — one of my favorite... Read more Caribbean islands. So make sure your room has an unobstructed view. If anything rivals the morning sunrise from the balcony, it's a late afternoon swim off the same beach. Nice pool. Really nice breakfast buffet (but don't leave food on the table or the birds will either take it or poop on it). And the stuffed roti for dinner ... I already miss it. Awesome. Beware that the walk up and down the steps could be a challenge for some. Read less
