Postcard Inn on the Beach

St Pete Beach, Tampa and Clearwater/St Pete

Virgin rating

The hotel

Hip and most definitely happenin’, Postcard Inn on the Beach remains true to its surfer-cool, 1950 motel roots. U-shaped with an impressive swimming pool and a grove of mature royal palms at its core, it joins a new wave of stylish hotels at affordable, bound-to-please everybody prices! No two rooms are exactly alike, although all have vintage furniture, flat screen TV, high-speed Internet access and murals or a photographic collage of all things surfing-orientated on the wall. Try some regional American fare for dinner at the Stamps Lobby Bar and Restaurant. There’s also a beach bar and snack shack down by the ocean so you can grab a drink and a hot dog whilst soaking up the sun. Downtown St Petersburg is a few minutes away or spend time at the beach, indulging in a variety of water sports, including that all-important surfing!

Unfortunately our stay wasn't what we expected. The atmosphere was fun, the pool was nice, located on the beach and there were plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance. The rooms ruin this place. The good part - atmosphere! We enjoyed the pool area the chairs are decent and have umbrellas. They provide poolside food/drink service at least on the weekends which was nice but the service wasn't great and was expensive for what we got. With your stay you get 2 chairs on the beach which is nice. You do have to pay extra for an umbrella/canopy on the beach. The coffee shop in the lobby was great, I really enjoyed my iced coffee and walk on the beach in the mornings. The courtyard area is nice. If you are looking for a party scene, this is it especially on the weekends! Wouldn't recommend this hotel for family vacation or for young children. The bad part - the rooms!! The rooms aren't accurately pictured online. Our room was dirty and the furniture was beat up pretty bad. Floors are in rough shape and dirty, we kept our shoes on the whole time in the rooms. The bedding is uncomfortable, sheets had holes in them. Room smelled musty. We spent as little time as possible in the room. Imagine the cheapest room you could find for college spring break, this was it but without the price to match. If anything I would recommend a day pass to use their amenities and stay somewhere else nearby. We unfortunately won't be staying here again. Read less

The location is great. But the room was horrible. Not only is it outdated but the cleanliness was the worst I’ve seen. All they did was make the bed. The place was gross. For the $$$ spent, this was horrible unless you don’t mind motel 6 type travel lodges.

Worst hotel experience in my life. The place is old, everything is a hassle, and the management knows it is bad, but do nothing about it. My front door moved back and forth in the frame 24/7 with the mild wind blowing through and sounded each time like someone was loudly trying to break in without a key. I could not sleep during the day or night. I complained to management and nothing happened. There is no phone to the front desk so every time something goes wrong you have to hike to the front desk. The next day I complained again. After several visits from the hotel maintenance guy, he produced a shim to stick in the door gap to hold the door securely. That is the type of solutions they come up with at the PCI to fix things - mickey mouse. Also, when I first entered the room, a super loud fan was running. I fiddled with the temp gauge and nothing. It was broken. I complained and nothing. There was some fan or air conditioning related mechanical device making the noise somewhere. After being kept at night, I went to the first desk at 2:30am to complain again. I was offered a new room, which I took and they had nobody to help me move. So I packed up everything and moved to a new room by myself at 2:30am. Nobody cares. When I first showered I saw there were these opaque tube bottles stuck apparently to the wall with labels of soap, conditioner, etc. - something I have never seen before. No soap bar anywhere. So I try to figure out these tubes - do they detach from the wall? Do I twist something to open it? No clue. Finally, I figure out how they work, but the soap tube is empty. So I go to front desk again and request a tube with soap. Which a day later I received - but I could not figure out how to attach it to the wall. No coffee maker in the room, so I walk to the front desk, request one and it arrives later that night. The coffee machine did not work properly and drank some hybrid espresso/coffee drink. One of the hotel staff said he would take my issues with management and implied they would give me a credit. I was in contact with him via text until I checked out and he went radio silent since. From what I understand, they are planning a renovation and are trying to squeek out as much revenue as possible with the existing broken down building and keep costs down by doing as little as possible - like scrimping on soap, coffee, maintenance. Just think of it - no direct line to the front desk, they do not make easy to complain. Stay away. Read less
