The hotel

This Bangkok hotel may be all things modern, but it still gives you the authentic local experience, from Thai massages at Sukavadee Spa to Thai cookery classes. It’s also created its own ‘local’ treats, like the signature ‘tuk tuk cooler’ cocktails on the menu of its super-sleek Liquid Lounge bar. The outdoor pool is set among city towers, giving it the feel of a hidden urban treat, especially when you’re tucking into ice creams from its accompanying poolside bar. But the hotel’s anything but hidden – it’s right on Bangkok’s popular Sukhumvit Road and just a stroll from the nearest Skytrain station. Once you return from shopping or sightseeing, you can choose from the Indian, Thai and Western menu of Tiffin Restaurant, or indulge in the 24-hour room service.

I have stayed in The BelAire Bangkok (it was called the BelAire Princess then) has not changed much over the years. This is not a criticism because the property still retains a certain charm and appeal. All hotels, no matter how old, can be updated and reinvigorated. There are areas within the BelAire that could be refreshed and I am sure management will be aware of them. Initial reception was good, friendly, if a little methodical. I had booked a Club room and it took the reception crew a little while to sort it out. Perhaps it was so I could get my welcome drink finished. I was given, initially, a room on level fifteen. On entering that room there was a definite damp stale smell. This smell proved to be from a wet carpet situated under the air conditioning unit. Coolant had leaked and the carpet had not been dried out properly. The bathroom also proved not to be up to scratch as there was a leak from the toilet hose. I contacted reception and told them the reasons that this room was not acceptable and asked for another room. After inspecting my complaint there was no argument from management and we were moved to another room on the same level which worked out just great. The lobby “Tiffin” bar/lounge proved ideal and was used for drinks and snacks. The Club Room was excellent with complimentary drinks and snacks. Well worth the additional cost. The breakfast buffet was fairly stock standard for a hotel of this rating. The food and beverages were hot which is not always the case in other hotels. The swimming pool is very good and appears to be well looked after. Plenty of chairs and lounges and the pool side service was efficient, although the brewed coffee could have been hotter. The location of the hotel is a bit off the beaten track. The road that it is located in is like all side roads off main arteries in Bangkok - neglected. Especially the footpaths An event on my second last night indicates why I have a high regard for this property. I awoke to find that the Air Con unit was leaking. Talk about lightning striking twice. I contacted reception who immediately sent a staff person to look at the problem. This occurred straight away. Within minutes a maintenance operative arrived and by the time I had returned from breakfast the problem had been fixed. Immediate attendance and satisfaction to a complaint. Who could expect more? Small and quaint but giving the service of a larger hotel, off the main road therefore no hustle and bustle of cars etc, breakfast had everything you could possibly want. friendly staff and very attentive. 200mtrs to the BTS station.

The hotel was excellent, rooms realkyarge and spacious (superior/standard) , breakfast amazing, pool area fab but no sun!! Couldn't fault the hotel at all, if you are wanting to stay in this area of Bangkok then don't hesitate to book the Belaire😀. However,we didn't like Sukhumvit area, it was scruffy and dirty, in fact we hated Bangkok, too busy, too polluted, can't breathe as the roads are constantly full of traffic. Majority of the locals walk around with face masks on, don't blame them! If I was made to stay in Bangkok again, certainly wouldn't go by choice, then we would pick the Siam area as it's a little more up market and nearer to the palace, major temples etc. Hope this helps.......
