The Mount Nevis

Nevis, St Kitts and Nevis

The hotel

Like staying with friends (if you have friends with an eye-poppingly gorgeous home in the Caribbean that is), Mount Nevis pampers you with intimacy, home-grown organic food, a glorious garden pool, and arguably the best views of St Kitts across the Caribbean Sea, thanks to its hillside setting near Newcastle. Boutique in size and feel, its 50 rooms and suites sit in pavilions within the 17 acre Round Hill Estate, a lime plantation dating back to the 1800s. Its grounds also hold hammocks, those show-stopping views, and a kitchen garden that feeds its Bella Vista Restaurant – where, as the name suggests, the delicious produce vies for attention with stunning views from the veranda. And, being your friends in Nevis, your hosts will drive you to and from one of the island’s most beautiful sandy shores each day.

The hotel is secluded and ideal for those who want to get away. The rooms are clean and the amenities good including the WIFI. The shortcomings is that there is no lotion and the front desk closes @ 10:00 pm and there is no facility to buy snacks or toiletries the property is ideal for a family reunion.

Rooms were clean and spotless and were close to pool as we have requested. House keeping staff kept checking on us if we needed the room cleaned up or if we needed fresh towels. Location of the hotel itself is excellent and the views are amazing. We spent most of the time at the pool which was well maintained. Restaurant had great choices with indian, chinese and continental cuisines. Breakfast was served hot and fresh. The staff at the restaurant were very accomadating and made sure the food came out just the way we wanted it. Restaurant staff Vipul and Vinod were very helpful. We thought the restaurant nicely compliments the hotel. We will definetly visit again. Read less

This hotel is difficult to review because some aspects were OK while others were disappointing. First, the positives. The difficult transfer arrangements from St Kitts worked well, despite our very late arrival. The island is quiet and unspoilt. The hotel is attractively located with views to the sea and mountains. The very pleasant reception staff did the best to make our stay enjoyable, for example by providing loungers for our sun terrace and arranging an excellent taxi tour of the island. Our room was clean and functional with adequate storage and comfortable bed. The gardens were well maintained by hardworking staff. But on the other hand... It's in the middle of nowhere, so a car is essential although the two nearest beaches are walkable within half an hour. The pool, one reason why we chose the hotel, was out of action for almost our entire stay. Three of our four shuttle trips to and from the beach didn't work, for different reasons. But the main drawback was the franchised-out restaurant: breakfast, lunch and dinner menus were limited and never changed throughout our stay. Service was erratic and often very slow even by the Caribbean standards with which we are very familiar. The fairly plain food, mainly Indian, was generally OK but nothing like the 5-star experience some reviewers have suggested (I really don't understand their enthusiasm) which probably explains why we were often eating on our own. If you're content just to sleep there and drive out for meals and other activities, it's probably satisfactory. Read less

The new restaurant management still has some work to do on service but the food was very good. I would stay there again when visiting Nevis. Read less
