Mount Irvine Bay Resort

Tobago, Caribbean

The hotel

Once a sugar and coconut plantation, this seemingly endless estate covers 18-acres of tropical gardens and a neighbouring golf course, which features distractingly beautiful sea views from every one of its 18 holes. Just by staying at Mount Irvine Bay Resort, you become a member of this exclusive and award-winning golf club, and enjoy reduced green fees. It’s one of the personal touches that make this private hideaway different from your average Caribbean resort. Sophisticated yet carefree, you can flit between its beach, large pool, five bars, and three restaurants, all at your leisure. But the waterfront is the hub of the resort, with surfers to watch, snorkelling to experience, and annual events like the Barefoot on the Beach New Year’s Eve parties and April’s Jazz on the Beach fringe festivities.

Pros: The property is very beautiful. The grounds are clean. While there is ongoing renovation, it was not an inconvenience. We stayed in a one bedroom executive suite. It was nice. Clean, cool, and comfortable. It was decorated for my birthday and I was so impressed. The staff was pleasant and attentive. Hospitality staff was amazing. Roxanne the events coordinator was a sweetheart. She allowed us to check into our flight print our boarding passes which was a helpful touch. She really cares about the resort. Deon the front desk staff was pleasant and friendly he made sure I had a great room. The stand out staff member was the pool area bar tender Andel. He went out of his way to make sure our experience at the resort was amazing. He even showed us a good night on the town for my birthday, he is an asset to the team. The distance from the resort to the beach was a short 2 min walk. Beautiful beach. The resort has a beach bar, but nothing amazing, however the restrooms and lounge furniture were nice and clean. Oh and did I mention the RUM PUNCH- Yummy! Cons: There is no onsite entertainment at all. You literally have to leave to find something to do. Only two bars. Pool & pool bar closes at 6-7pm. Lobby bar closes around 11pm. The food is mediocre, no variety. The internet and cable service are sketchy at best. We were never able to use the TV. If there was some form of nightly entertainment I am sure I would not have noticed the TV issues. The gate access to the beach closes around 6-7pm. Not good. There is no notice or sign on the gate indicating gate access hours so unfortunately my husband and I including a family of four with small children had to hop over the gate. The staff told us we should have been told about the time and got a bit defensive when we complained. PUT A SIGN UP FOLKS. On our check out day there was a power outage that caused the water pump to shut down and we where unable to bath properly before our departure. What a horrible inconvenience. The resort has no generator! Everything just shut down and they are not able to function properly without power. Unacceptable! A resort should have a generator. GET A GENERATOR FOLKS. They were unable to process our credit card at check out another inconvenience. Needless to say there is room for improvement. We were never offered anything to accommodate for the inconveniences. That would have been nice but oh well. With all that said I would definitely return once they make a few adjustments and GET SOME ENTERTAINMENT FOLKS. This is not a negative review. Just constructive criticism. Overall I rate my experience a 4 out of 5. And again yes I would definitely return. Read less

We had a garden/pool/ocean view from our room. Gorgeous! The room was found to be very clean and had good water pressure in the bathroom but the fixtures were dated. Fixtures could use an upgrade and the tv didn't work. HOWEVER, I do not need a tv when I'm in Tobago. Staff: They were the friendliest I've met in Tobago. Very accommodating and… Read more

Fixtures could use an upgrade and the tv didn't work. HOWEVER, I do not need a tv when I'm in Tobago. Staff: They were the friendliest I've met in Tobago. Very accommodating and always asked how your day was going. I felt good about spending my money there. Pool: pretty decent. pretty big. we loved it. Again it was a bit old but fairly clean. Beach: just a short walk through the hotel and across the street was Mt. Irving Bay. It was heaven on earth. There was even a small area where you could snorkel and see jelly fish, crab, fish! It was quite beautiful. I didn't want to leave. Food: at the hotel the food is limited at lunch time. No chicken fingers or kid's options. The fries were pretty good though. Dinner was good. I had the curried shrimp with vegetable and rice. Yum! BUT you can get Pizza Hut delivered or there's a Food Hut on the beach named Anchor that had great food. Hotel grounds: so many places to hang out. oved the giant jenga. Lots of little bars. and very scenic. We quite enjoyed our stay at Mt. Irving Beach Resort. I will definitely be returning. Read less

Enjoyed my stay at Mount Irvine. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Room was basic, but was cleaned daily. Had a nice room, with a fridge and a/c. Bathroom felt like a sauna, but functioned peefectly. Only complaint was no telephone in the room. But would visit again.
