Opal Sands Resort

Clearwater, Clearwater & St Pete

The hotel

The Gulf of Mexico greets you at every twist and turn of this coastal chic retreat. The clever curve design guarantees a waterfront view from every guestroom, with floor-to-ceiling glass and private balconies maximising the impact. The to-die-for Clearwater Beach setting’s echoed in the sand and sea colour scheme, and in the artworks created and curated by artist Christopher Still. But, step outside, and the real thing’s right there – with Gulf views from its zero-entry pool, accessorised with a hot tub, palm trees, and ocean-blue loungers. The seafront scene also welcomes you to every dining and drinking venue at Opal Sands. From the beachside tiki bar to Sea-Guini, with its fresh seafood and Italian-inspired selections, you’ll find the perfect pit stop whether you’ve been putting your feet up at the spa or putting them down on the complimentary bikes.

Things we loved: rooms are very nice (see note below), the pool is fantastic, the staff will bend over backwards for you. HUGE SHOUT OUT TO JENNY at the concierge desk. She worked with me in advance to make sure my Mom's birthday was quite special, including ordering flowers and a cake for her birthday dinner at their signature restaurant - Sea Guini. The food there was also very good. Get a table overlooking the pool. Fabulous bartender who will go off menu and make you whatever wild drink you want. Beach - the beach is a super short walk from the hotel and very calm. You can rent chairs, umbrellas and a Cabana if you like. Much cheaper if you do this early in the morning. Those prices are not in your hotel literature...signs on the beach only. Things to know (slightly disappointing): We thought the suite came with a full kitchen and that was not quite true. It has a table that seats 4, and I guess you would call it a half-kitchen? Counter, normal size microwave and several cabinets above, but no stove, no sink (we washed dishes in the bathroom), no utensils or plates (we had to ask for these), the fridge is dorm room size. They do have a one cup at a time coffee maker, free K cups and sugar and free water each day. There is a $25 per day rental car fee (they have a free trolley, so you really don't need a car if you are staying local) and a $25 room fee...which is not great! NOTE: This hotel is perhaps on the pricey side, however of you are planning two to three months out they WILL have a sale. Wait and watch. At first we saw the buy two days get one day free offer, but then they had the 50% off sale and that is when we booked. That sale came around in Feb/March and I was able to use it for our May trip. I also called a bit to keep checking and a lovely person told me about the sale about a week before time. Read less

Every night we watch the dolphins and manatees swim by while watching the sunset. The only downside to the resort is the noise in the morning. We would wake up to music playing at 8am every day. Our room was on the 11th floor and it looked like we were on a cruise while sitting out on the balcony. The staff is top notch. I would like to give a shout out to a few: prior to arriving I had called and spoke to Alexandra, Maria and Jenny. All were EXTREMELY helpful and ensured this would be a wonderful celebration for my sister. Jenny the concierge sent a detailed email listing all the information we would need. And during our stay, all I had to do was check in with her and she made everything happen, from activities to dinner reservations. Upon check in, Alex was friendly and gave us a tour of the beautiful grounds. We loved Nick the bartender at the pool bar. Super nice and fun! And finally, Yianni at the Sandbar restaurant was our favorite server. We felt pampered & relaxed the entire time. The room is gorgeous and plenty of room for 3 of us with the pull out couch. The only negative about our stay was the beach area. It's public so it was super crowded the whole time we were there. It's also a bit small. We didn't spend too much time there, as the pool was so pretty and overlooks the gulf. We HIGHLY recommend this resort and hope to be back! Read less

The pool bar cocktail menus were fab with great service from our pool waitress Dae Lynn. We really enjoyed the relaxed & informal dinning at the Al Fresco 'Sand Bar', food very tasty too. All sea view rooms were very well appointed, great quiet air con, fridge, iron etc. Lovely large shower with body jets. Great coffee machine and comp water and snacks from the pantry on each floor. All in all well worth the extra money, a great hotel. Read less
