The hotel

Sand Key has been voted in the top 10 US beaches and with California, Hawaii and the rest of Florida in competition, that's no small boast. The hotel is right on that glorious white sand. It is an attractive, well-run and well-equipped resort, with a selection of eateries. Rusty's provides wonderful breakfasts and gourmet dinners. There's plenty of daily specials and tasty treats including a fresh soup and salad bar in the Island Grill, and you'll always find a good atmosphere and drinks specials in the Mainstay Tavern. Our room was clean in most respects, except we it wasn’t vacuumed. Found a penny on the carpet and a hairpin in different locations. The offerings at the pool for lunch were not that good. Tried pizza....don’t bother...it was like cardboard with flavorless cheese. Salad was remade boxed, my husband’s sandwich was soggy. The hot tub was… Read more

Tried pizza....don’t bother...it was like cardboard with flavorless cheese. Salad was remade boxed, my husband’s sandwich was soggy. The hot tub was boiling....crazy hot. Pool area great. Beachfront property but 35 dollars if you want a chair after the long walk down to the beach. It would have been nice to have more than one restaurant. But overall a decent place. Read less

I asked & received a room that overlooked the beach - quite lovely to wake up to seeing the ocean. Had it not been so hot & humid, I would have enjoyed sitting on my balcony. The staff is friendly & the hotel clean & comfortable.

I stayed 5 nights for a conference. Hotel is older, but clean. There are currently some renovations going on. Staff is friendly and attentive. Island Grille has a nice salad bar and the drinks at the bar are great. Pool area and hot tub are very good. There are some games and hammocks on the sand close to the pool. There is a long walk to the beach, but golf carts run during the day. The beach connects to the Sand Key Park and is much quieter than the public beach near Pier 60. You can ride the Jolly Trolley free with your room key. Read less

I have to say first that Sidney was awesome...she got us into an a room with an AWESOME view...poolside 4th floor. Although the hotel does need an update we did not have any issues with smell or bugs. There is a small fridge and a coffee maker in every room. Although the hotel does need an update we did not have any issues with smell or bugs. There is a small fridge and a coffee maker in every room. Our only problem was with water pressure and hot water (lack of) truly not a real big deal...we had just a wonderful time. The walk to the oceanside is beautiful...if you don't want to walk it there is a big golf cart that will gladly take you to the ocean. The pool area is very clean as is the pool and there are plenty of chairs and tables. Again just a wonderful time! Read less

The pictures are very misleading. Their private beach is nice, but everything else needs serious updating. It has the old hotel smell. I'm here for a conference, and but I would not come back for any other reason.
