Previously Guy Harvey Outpost – now Rumfish Hotel Negatives Unjustified charges for standard services More outlay on check in for ocean view rooms Overpriced in house restaurant Average accommodation Lack of understanding on complaint Positives Great sunset My wife and I along with my son's family stayed for a week. As soon as we checked in we had to lodge $450 for each family on our credit cards. This was to cover a $50 per day per room charge in respect of the hotel amenities plus $100 reserve for anything charged to our room. We booked the holiday in early 2019 when we paid a deposit. We paid the balance of the holiday in August and had no indication at that point that there was a $50 per room per day charge. By paying the balance, we naturally thought that everything had been paid for. We collected the final holiday confirmations about a week before we left for the US and it was only then upon checking the itinerary details that for the first time that we saw reference to a $50 per day charge. By then it was too late to arrange alternative accommodation even if we had wanted to. We had quoted accommodation addresses on our visitor visas and it takes time it takes to get that documentation completed. Essentially it was going to cost $700 more than we had budgeted. My wife and I are pensioners and the only amenities that we used were the sunbeds, the pool and the wi-fi and occasionally the cabanas (sunbeds with their own parasol). Our grandsons went on the large beach inflatable slide on a couple of occasions but were unable to use the inflatable beach playground as it's only available on weekends (weather permitting) and it was too windy for the only weekend that we were there. There are other facilities available such as a gym, pedalos, simulated surf ride etc but we never used them. Ultimately we paid an extra $700 for standard services that are free in most other hotels around the world. Whilst acknowledging that there are other amenities available at the hotel, we did not use them so as far as I am concerned there is absolutely no justification in charging for unused facilities. We have contacted the hotel to complain about this but they are unable to justify the charge. Their only defence is that we had advance notice of the charge. If you still decide to go there, be prepared to pay for the basics due to these questionable add on extras. There is zero value for money at this hotel. Read less

We had originally booked the Beach House suites with the Don Cesar, but after seeing TA reviews that they had construction WITHOUT alerting guests at booking (who does that?!), we switched our hotel to the RumFish. And boy am I glad that we did! Room: we were in 3837, a courtyard view. However, due to the third floor level, we still had a nice view of the ocean. Anything below three, did not. The sofa bed was enough space for our 2 and 5 year old to sleep together. Tip-they have sound pillows that go in the beds. We put one of the round pillows under the sheets next to our 2 year old to keep her from falling out. It worked great. The kitchenette was great, but limited counter space. The fridge size was more than a mini fridge so we were able to store all the food we needed to. (A Publix is about a mile away). There were two full beds in the bedroom. One was very soft - perfect for me - and the other very hard. I’m not sure if that’s purposeful or we just got lucky. We were able to eat 2 meals a day in our room, which really helped on saving $$$. Noise: You can hear EVERYTHING from your neighbors. Our room had two adjoining rooms attached, and every night our neighboor would come home between 2:30-3:30 am (wake us up) and start snoring. Also, the garden view rooms back up the the parking lot so on the weekend we got a lot of noise from the bar parking lot. Finally, the side that faces the Toasted Monkey gets a lot of noise from their music. My kids managed to sleep through it and weren’t bothered at all, but I’m not sure I would have been able to. If your sensitive to hotel noise, I would recommend bringing a sound machine, box fan or white noise ap to help. I would also ask for one of the rooms that doesn’t have adjoining rooms and isn’t on the side of the toasted monkey bar. Pool: so many pools to choose from! The RumFish kids pool may seem small but my kids swam for hours and having the bar close was great. We tried all pools at the IG and they were all equally good. The kiddie pool was great too, shallow and shade. One of the best things is they didn’t monitor/limit you towel use. So we could take and return as many towels as needed during the day. It was so convenient and easy with the kiddos! Beach: to die for! The sand was amazing and so many shells. The cabanas were easy to get and comfortable. It’s a bit of a hike to the IG with the little ones, but not unmanageable. It would be great if they would rake the path leading to the beach to clear the “prickers” as my kids called them. Activities: the water slide was a huge hit with my 5 year old and a great alternative to the pool. He went prob 50 times. We did the kids club activities in the last day because it was cold and Kiki was great. So patient to help everyone and run around organizing the different crafts and activities. We painted picture frames, made shark necklaces and made stuffed animals. We also did the mining activity where they give you a bag of sand and sift through to find fossils and shark teeth. Quick but also a huge hit. Restaurants: typical beach food. Good for what it was and quick! Staff: the staff is what makes it. A few highlights. My son was very sad one day after doing the shark teeth dig for a while and not finding anything. He asked to go talk to someone about it so we went to the front desk. Victor overheard us asking about the shark teeth and immediately jumped in to help. He took us to the gift shop and found an extra shark tooth dog they had there. My son was so happy to find a few teeth to take home. Later, we left victor a thank you note because he made my son’s day, and he found us later with passes for free ice cream. The kids were so excited! Another example was my son was carrying a bunch of small army men to play with on the beach. While waiting for Dad, Don started chatting with the kids and Rory showed him his army men. We get out to the beach and start playing. Then here comes Don with a lost army man he found outside our hotel room. So nice! Finally, housekeeping was hit or miss. Our first day was great, our second day, was disappointing (didn’t wipe down the table, clean out coffee pot, etc) and the third day they didn’t show up. So when ic allows at 3 to see when our room would be cleaned. I expected an annoyed housekeeper to show up. The exact opposite. Caietha showed up very kind and starting to clean while we cleared the kids out of the room. When we came back she had the room in great shape with a flower made of towels on our bed. She totally changed my general frustration with housekeeping that day! Overall a great trip. We will be back for use! Read less

Cockroaches in our room. Wife was watching TV and screamed There are roaches on the walls. I took pictures to show the manager. Also loud music from Bands from adjacent property bar penetrate our ground floor room till 11 pm. Not good if your putting kids to sleep. Room door has a 3/8 inch gap at threshold unsealed. No wonder bugs get in. As bad or worse is the the response by management when we reported the cockroaches- they said their not cockroaches but palmetto bugs and they are normal and live in the palm trees. So why are they in our room I asked. I got a dumb look back. No apologies. No offer to change rooms. No exterminator. No credit for living in a $200 night room with bugs crawling on the walls. It’s as if its absolutely normal for these big disgusting bugs to come with the room. We were in town for a wedding and telling the RumFish to stick it was not an option. Stay was from 11-9 to 11-11 2019. If you stay at this dump bring bug spray. Read less

We went there as we did a timeshare tour of Bluegreen Tradewinds so they put us up at RumFish Beach resort a couple of doors down. I was a little apprehensive because last year we stayed there when it was Guy Harvey's resort and it really needed updating. I was pleasantly surprised this trip, they called it a suite but it was like a 1BR. You walked into the living room then through a small kitchenette, which had a stovetop, microwave, bar size sink and full refrigerator, to the right was a bathroom and then a bedroom with 2 double beds. I would definitely stay there again, they have 2 nice pools, one is an adult pool, it's right on the beach and there is a pool bar and live entertainment. The toasted Monkey is right next door and they have live entertainment every night also. There are plenty of bars with live entertainment along the strip and also great restaurants! Read less
