Hotel Hugo

Soho and Tribeca, New York

Virgin rating

The hotel

SoHo is where George Washington first coined the term 'New Yorker', and it's also where you'll find the effortlessly stylish Hotel Hugo. The best way to appreciate this trendy location is from the glass-enclosed rooftop bar, where you can sip cocktails whilst enjoying views of the Hudson River, Freedom Tower and Statue of Liberty. Marcello Pozzie's contemporary architecture reflects the local area (where you'll find plenty of restaurants, bars, shops and amenities), and the decor drips in industrial influences and bohemian chic.

I have to agree with what others have said here. Even for New York my room was way too small. Whoever designed this room apparently didn't expect travelers to bring a suitcase because there was actually no place to put even one suitcase without blocking a door and steping over it. Whoever designed this room apparently didn't expect travelers to bring a suitcase because there was actually no place to put even one suitcase without blocking a door and steping over it. Two suitcases involved blocking access to the small sink counter. I've had bigger rooms on a cruise ship. You know the room is small when there is no dresser and the only place to put anything is a fold out desk that blocks walking around when down. Otherwise the hotel seemed fine. Not recommended. I had a great stay here for work n early May. Gigi & Elle along with the Hotel Hugo staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly. The cafe is great for morning coffee & breakfast and the rooftop bar had great views & drinks.

I had a really great stay here for work! There’s a beautiful view from the rooftop bar, rooms are huge by NYC standards and super clean, and the service was great! Gigi was so helpful at the front desk! Would highly recommend

I am an active and well-traveled individual and I understand the hotel business having strayed in all grades of hotels in the US and globally for the last 40 yrs. I don’t write a lot of reviews. I will write one if a hotel or its staff goes above and beyond what’s expected, but also one if it’s substandard in service and accommodations. I also understand there are some days when things just don’t go right at a hotel and that is just part of the business. However in almost all cases like that, a well-managed hotel will recover quickly and management is active and attentive to correct the situation so you don’t penalize a hotel for one bad day. Then there are Hotels like Hug, where it’s not one bad day This review is about our experience. If you read it careful these issues are long term here and not just a bad day First off its important that you understand that this hotel focuses a significant amount of energy and resources on the two roof top bars. By all means visit the bars .The views are spectacular, drinks are overpriced and it’s the hotels cash cow. Its open to the public. The hotel is poorly managed ==period Everything I cite here is a reflection on either a management that is not in touch with its business or one who does not care. -Hotel is grossly understaffed , especially for maids and other room support services (i.e. maintenance help etc ) – Example -If you have an AC problem it will be at least 24 hrs. before anyone responds if they do at all. Housekeeping In my case, as well that of 10 of the other guests, we all were there for multiple days and nights. Of the 4 days I was there we saw a maid once .Many of us had to track one down to get towels just for the next day, let alone clean the bathroom or make the bed. . Front Desk gave you lip service and if there was a manager on duty that did a great job pf concealing their identity. It was so bad that in In every one of the 20 plus rooms there was only 1 roll of toilet paper and it was the one on the holder –Come On –Toilet paper rationing! We had to go to the corner bodega and buy toilet paper as the front desk either did not pass the request on to housekeeping or they just forgot – Rooms are very small—Don’t be taken in by the pictures –it’s an optical illusion. The rooms are very cramped. You will have a tough time just finding where to stack two suitcase that you can access .The thermostat in our room did not work properly so we could not adjust ours up or down Maintenance never showed up. Just hope in the summer your window opens fora breeze They have two elevators which are somewhat adequate in the off hours but in the morning when people are going to breakfast or trying to checkout. The management has allowed the cleaning crew to “command” one of the elevators for an hour or more during this time. They shut it off at every floor –Thus leaving one elevator to service over 200 plus guests on 14 floors !! Lobby is small and crowded with suitcases so there is nowhere to mingle with others as your tripping over stored luggage in the middle of the floor and overlapping the line of guests at the front desk trying to understand why they have no maid service or why they don’t have a room and its well beyond 3 pm Note if you do book this hotel --Don’t take a room above the 16th floor. The two bars are noise you and noise filters down. The claim to be a boutique hotel and charge boutique prices . If boutique is defined as substandard service , small rooms and no management accountability then this is your place You will make your own choice and read other reviews etc –‘Im just telling you buyer beware .There are far better options then this hotel. We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Hugo, and Gigi took great care of us!! She recommended a great restaurant that was within walking distance, and she took into consideration our personal wants and needs during our trip.
