The location is great, the hotel is classic and has an air of another time. Our room had a great view and the only real complaint was that there was only one sink. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend and would stay again.

This hotel was booked on a room only basis as part of a honeymoon package. The hotel is in the Nob Hill district and therefore more expensive than we would usually book. Location is ideal for visiting the city. 2 of the cable car lines have stops right near the hotel or it’s a half hour (max) walk down the hill to the bay. For a top end hotel however, it was disappointing that there is no free WiFi in the rooms. The lobby does have WiFi that lasts for a day. All the staff are lovely & helpful and the room was clean & services well. We did splash out on room service on the first night as we arrived late evening. Although they didn’t have the pasta option I had chosen, an alternative was offered. The food arrived in a reasonable time and was hot. On our last day we were able to leave our luggage safely while we went out until it was time to leave. We ordered the airport shuttle that is advertised by link on the website & on the Fairmont ipaddevice in the room. That was a poor experience as the shuttle is a minibus which has seen better days. The driver seemed rushed and had multiple collections which we had planned poorly. We circled back on ourselves several times downtown & it was packed. The seats were small & we were squashed in. The seat belts were a revelation! Definitely stick to Uber next time. We paid $48 coming from the airport plus tip. The shuttle was $38 for the 2 of us. Needless to say we didn’t tip that ride! While just as old a building as the InterContinental Mark Hopkins and the Huntington (both of which are located on the same square as the Fairmont), the Fairmont is far and away the best option in the area. The rooms feel much more modern than the Mark Hopkins & the Huntington, the facilities are much better maintained, and the service is far superior. The Fairmont isn't quite as luxurious as the Ritz, St. Regis, or Loews, but for its price point it is the best option in San Francisco. Moreover, they saved us from a nightmarish experience at the Huntington—so we will forever owe them a debt of gratitude! Well recommended. Read less

Arrived for a week at this hotel with high expectations, yes it has the history and it looks the part but that is where it ends in our experience and hence the reason I give it four and not five stars. Arrived for a week at this hotel with high expectations, yes it has the history and it looks the part but that is where it ends in our experience and hence the reason I give it four and not five stars. The front desk on arrival, and the concierge when we asked about a concert were indifferent, the only time the front desks ears picked up was when I informed then on the day we left that we had observed a take away container with left over food at the top on the fire exit stairs visible through the glass door when we arrived and it was still there 7 days later! We did have one breakfast in the restaurant, which was OK if you think $28 for continental buffet is good value, maybe it is for San Francisco. The room, we had one on the mezzanine; was comfortable, it had half a window which was ok, but as with any city with low floors you do get noise, including feeling the vibration from what I suspect were the cables for the cable cars when they start up at approx. 6am we had no need for an alarm, maybe I was sensitive to it. On a positive note it is in a very good location, close to the cable cars as I might have previously intimated. Read less

There is a corridor which tells you the history of the hotel in picture form, which is extremely interesting. There is i lovely roof garden to enjoy warm evenings. Hotel appeared to be very busy every night we stayed as it hold lots of conferences and business events, so don’t expect a relaxing atmosphere. Tonga restaurant and bar is one of the best I’ve been to in any part of the world. Rooms are very nice with good facilities. No water for guests in rooms unless you pay for it, DOWN SIDE WAS THE PILLOWS WERE SMELLY. ((my pet hate). If you are not having breakfast there is a great coffee shop attached to hotel which has great coffee muffins and pastries and super service. Would recommend as a nice hotel but not the pillows. Never understand why hotels who claim to be luxurious never have a pillow check. Read less
