Holiday Inn Express - Fisherman's Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

The hotel

In the middle of Fisherman's Wharf, you'll find yourself in a great spot, close to PIER 39 and Ghirardelli Square. The famous cable car turnaround is just outside too, so you can easily get to other neighbourhoods. There's a smart, maritime theme throughout the hotel making it a warm, relaxing respite from the city. And an American breakfast will fire you up for the day. Why not head over to the notorious ex-prison Alcatraz, wander around vibrant Chinatown or take a walk down to the Golden Gate Bridge.

Spotless rooms, Fantastic staff friendly and helpful, great location for Fisherman's wharf and cable car terminal, which runs to union square, the only downside is the cost of parking onsite, the inclusive breakfast was good with a varied selection, also little touches like free newspapers at reception.

Lovely hotel, nice spacious rooms we stayed in a room with two double beds, great location on Fisherman’s Wharf near to Pier 39 and cable cars. Breakfast was good, just make sure you get there early enough as it can be busy but as it is an express hotel people quickly come and go. Overall great hotel and just what we needed to start our holiday in… Read more

We were overall satisfied with this hotel. It’s in a great location on the wharf, so that was nice. There are many restaurants and shopping very close by. The staff were nice and helpful as well, and our room was always so clean. We did not eat breakfast, because it closed too early for us, so I cannot comment on that. I just wish it’d stayed open later for those of us who like to sleep in on vacation. Okay, so here’s negatives and why I didn’t give five stars: even though you are staying in the hotel, you pay $60/night for parking. That’s crazy. I could understand if you’re not a patron of the hotel, but $60/night for patrons? Awful. Also, there’s no mirror in the room other than the bathroom. Not one. This was troublesome when trying to get ready. They desperately need a mirror over the desk, at least, but preferably a floor length mirror in the room. The walls and ceilings are paper thin. I could hear a guy peeing above us. People up and down the hall, and our room was at the very end by the stairwell so it was quieter than most, you could hear any and every conversation. We turned the fan on to run constant in the room to try and drown out noise. The bed is extremely firm. My boyfriend loved that, but I didn’t. It hurt. I think it was way too firm. I did ask for extra pillows, to help offset the firmness, and they were happy to oblige. Would we stay here again? I’m not sure. Definitely not in high tourist season. I cannot imagine the noise level then. Read less

Although this is a Holiday Inn Express, I would venture to say that it must be one of the better ones. Our room was very clean and well-appointed. The king-sized bed was very comfortable and the shower was excellent. Good linens and towels helped make our three night stay a good one.

Let’s face it at all Hotels in San Francisco your going to be paying a premium price, especially if you stay near a very high volume tourist area. Let’s face it at all Hotels in San Francisco your going to be paying a premium price, especially if you stay near a very high volume tourist area. But I chose this location so we could be close to Fisherman’s Wharf, I knew if I didn’t want to be walking up hill the day I was there that is the area I needed to be in. This hotel was perfect for us. Our flight got in at 7:30am, that meant leaving home at 2:30am to get to the airport! By the time we reached the hotel at 8:30 we were already beat! Brandy checked us in and knew by looking at us, even though it was early we needed a room as soon as we could get one. She was GREAT!!! Within 20 min she had us checked in and we were on our way to a very nice room, very comfortable bed & spacious in both the room & bathroom! 30 min later we were sound asleep! Thank You Brandy!!! After getting a much needed long nap we decided to head out for an early dinner, being that close to many good restaurants it didn’t take long to find a place to eat, and I can not go to San Francisco without seeing the Sea Lions at Pier 39! We also watched the sunset beyond The Golden Gate Bridge, and was able to get back to the hotel before dark! The next day we woke up early and beat the crowds to breakfast, there was plenty to choose from the cardboard trays & the system they used took us a second to figure it out, when we were finished. I had forgotten to bring a few essentials and we found a Walgreens a couple blocks away, that was easy to walk to. We had come in a day early before leaving on a cruise, and we had a specific time to check in for that, again Brandy to our rescue, she gave us a late check out time, which was perfect for our time table! This hotel fit our needs perfectly, and it was all due to Brandy & the location of this Holiday Inn Express! In San Francisco you need to be aware of what you want to do and stay as close to everything as you can, I’m no spring chicken now each time I go back, those hills get a little harder to walk!!!'
