Sheraton Samui Resort

Koh Samui, Thailand

The hotel

It’s really all about the beach in Koh Samui, and Sheraton Samui Resort offers sand in spades. Making the most of its Chaweng Noi Beach spot, dining, drinking and swimming are all set against the ocean backdrop. Blue Monkey’s wooden deck delivers ocean views as you try unique ‘Pairings’ of craft beers and bar snacks or small plates and fine wines. The whitewashed wood and wicker of Long Talay give a beach house feel as you tuck into decadent buffets. A beachfront lagoon pool skirts the sand for sumptuous seafront swims. And the bell by your beach lounger can be used to order food so you never have to leave the shore. Although, if you do, you’ll find a peaceful garden pool with whirlpool, fabulous guest rooms, and the stunning lantern-lit Lobby Lounge.

He is a big part of making our stay memorable and it’s refreshing to meet such optimistic staff members! He brought our suitcase to our room through flights of stairs with such a big smile on his face even though our luggage’s were super heavy and upon check out he assisted us again with such passion for his job. We loved seeing such value able staff members like Pierre whom is a true asset to the business, you could honestly see the passion he has for his work. Read less

TThe whole world is suffering... so we mustn't grumble about having to cancel our honeymoon for towards two years. That said, the level of expectation when we arrived here at Sheraton Samui was... intense. But they exceeded ALL our expectations. Hotel preferences are a personalised thing but for us the ability to hang out in what is almost a boutique hotel with a stunning location is pretty important. Sheraton Samui delivers in spades and aside from a visa renewal trip, we had absolutely no need or desire to leave the property. That is the mark of a REAL resort... ...sure, there are not ten different food outlets to choose from but with only 140 rooms, the two restaurants with one kitchen are all that you need. We wish we spent more time in the main restaurant but I defy anyone to leave the seats by the sea after watching the evening come in and with the added incentive of Happy Hour. Where to start in detail? Every single meal in the hotel has been outstanding. And I genuinely mean outstanding. Amazing ribeye, beautifully prepared tuna tartare, plates and plates of nibbles and Thai food and don't get me started about the Blue Monkey burger. Arguably the best dining I've had at a hotel, period. Certainly in the last ten years. The culinary highlight for us was a specially arranged supper on the beach at the wave edge. The Head of F&B, Mr. Vivek Shasa, sourced and cooked lobster for us especially and it was amazing. I’m reflecting as I write this and yes, I do think right now this is the best F&B delivery I’ve ever had in a Sheraton – note this comment for later discussion – property. The room itself was stunning. Just under two squash courts in size, beautifully decorated and with a balcony overlooking the sea that was bigger than some rooms we’ve had recently. Amazing. Spotlessly clean, super super comfortable bed and we struggled to drag ourselves out for and after breakfast. Sure, the hotel is not new but for us that added to the charm… it has this kind of Moorish charm reminiscent of the Sheraton Algarve. Gorgeous. Just in case you are wondering, this is not a ‘puff’ piece for the property. I’ve written enough honest but critical reviews of other properties – see my profile – for people to realise that this was just the most super experience. Be it the hotel’s own herb garden – never seen that before! – the buggy service that runs you around the property or the incredibly attentive service at all the outlets and including a breakfast service that was barely long enough at four hours… absolute perfection. And ‘perfection’ started from the moment we arrived. They have had it tough here on Samui and it’s not clear how this will all pan out in the next few months. Regardless through it all K. Wasana, the hotel manageress, has been a beacon of hope over email and across two horrible years. She really cares about her property, about her team and about her staff, that is evident everywhere you look. And her customers. It’s been over two years and many challenges for all of us but the hug she gave us both on arrival was the highlight of the whole stay and I’m not ashamed to say at least one of us tear’d up. Thank you K. Wasana, K. Vivek, K. Tor and all the other lovely, lovely people who made our honeymoon a dream experience. We’ll be back for February, situation allowing – hint 23 Feb in particular! – so that is my birthday treat sorted. Now, can someone send me the best Xmas present of the lot and get Marriott to release the Sheraton brand that is working so hard to tarnish and let this fabulous chain stand on it’s own two feet again? Thank you Sheraton Samui. Read less
