Six Senses Samui

Koh Samui, Thailand

Virgin rating

The hotel

When you arrive at the Six Senses Samui the view is at once exhilarating and strangely familiar. The sweeping vista of palm-clustered islands and shimmering seas brings to mind all the fantasies we have of the Orient's beaches. The resort is made up of a stunning collection of bamboo-clad villas looking out over the Gulf of Thailand. At Six Senses there are only villas, most with a private swimming pool with polished wooden floor interiors. Following the renovation, all villas are fully enclosed and air-conditioned so there are no "open-air spaces" as such and the bathroom and bedroom have a sliding door that separates them. The restaurants and bars are open pavilions, deriving their aesthetic from the communal longhouses of traditional river communities. The view, the architecture, the style and even the temperature intentionally immerse the guest in the location. This is back to nature – without a hint of roughing it. Six Senses Samui gives you everything, including a comprehensive spa that offers every conceivable treatment in Asia.

They upgraded us to a suite and it was the perfect intimate experience to relax after two weeks of traveling. Table 99 dining was great with excellent service. All the wonderful fresh food, eco-conscious touches, and amazing staff really made this a great experience. Only thing to note is that there are lots of mosquitos, but that is the only negative and to be expected. Read less

The beach pool and main pool were great environments and designed really well but I do question why children are allowed here - at one point the very relaxed pool area become not relaxed with the arrival of just one child! We went back to our own pool. It would be great to turn the main pool into adults only so us childless couples can enjoy our holiday with being intruded on. All in all, an amazing experience and I’m really excited to try another Six Senses soon (maybe Koh Yao Noi this time). Read less

Six Senses Samui is everything I could have hoped for and more. We were lucky enough to stay in a Hideaway Pool Villa - an absolutely gorgeous huge room with an amazing bathroom and an outdoor shower. The villa has its own private pool with sun-loungers and outdoor lounge seating and is absolutely spectacular. I had the opportunity to see a couple of the other pool villas and the ocean view suites really are exceptional with either sunrise or sunset views. The infinity pool is stunning and has far reaching ocean views. Drink and food service by the pool is fantastic with a lovely menu. Drift is Six Senses Samui’s beach club. With a pool, bar and the most comfortable loungers and seating imaginable. There was never an issue finding a lounger either at the pool or down on the beach. Drift Bar has a livelier atmosphere than the serene infinity pool and is a great place for lunch or afternoon cocktails at Happy Hour. Dining on the Hill is wonderful for breakfast - a fantastic selection on both the buffet and a La carte menu. Dinner was fantastic - a great selection of both Thai and Western food and I’d highly recommend booking Half Board. The resort is so beautiful at night as well with all the lights twinkling. We didn’t have the opportunity to eat at Dining on the Rocks but heard that it was a very special experience. The staff at Six Senses are all lovely. Each Villa is assigned a GEM (Guest Experience Maker) and we were lucky enough to have the wonderful Beth. Beth made us feel so welcome and was so helpful and friendly - he really is a credit to Six Senses and made our stay even more wonderful. Although you can walk around the resort and take in the views, when the heat becomes too much for the hills and steps, buggy’s are readily available to transport you around. Despite the size of the resort it somehow still retains an intimate feel. Despite feeling totally secluded in Paradise, Six Senses is only a 15 minute taxi journey from Samui Airport as well as The Fisherman’s Village which is well worth a visit - we loved the Fire Show at Coco Tams as recommended by Beth our GEM. Sustainability is clearly very important to Six Senses and it’s great not to see plastic anywhere at the resort. Six Senses Samui is the perfect destination for couples and families - there are plenty of activities available for children and adults alike if you can tear yourself away from the stunning views! This is a beautiful resort and we had 6 wonderful nights here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The resort surprised us with an upgrade to a pool villa, it was stunning and when we arrived at it they had left a lovely anniversary cake and a bottle of bubbly, thank you so much for this. The room was excellent, comfortable bed, sunken bath, excellent showers, plenty of storage space but the pool area was fantastic. We had a couple of sun beds and a large sheltered seating area, just perfect for us. The resort is quite hilly but you needn’t worry, the buggy service is excellent and you never have to wait long. I enjoy my breakfast on holiday and I wasn’t disappointed here. The choice and standard of everything made it my favourite part of the day. The resort pool area was lovely. Good here was very good. The beach was ok but with our own private pool we rarely used it. The staff at the resort are wonderful. Professional, friendly and would do anything for you to ensure your staff is perfect. I got some insect bites, I always do on holiday, and they give me some green cream which was great stuff!!! Thanks again to everyone at Six Senses, especially Zul, for giving us a wonderful holiday. I don't usually write such detailed reviews, but I decided to write for Six Senses Samui. The property is built on the entire cape in the north of the island, overlooking the ocean, with a great view, in the jungle and designed to blend in with the texture of nature. You won't see plastic garbage bags, for example, they carry garbage in elegant sacks made of natural materials, I like it very much. It is both far from the city and easy to reach the most lively places of the island. If the simplicity of the reception misleads you at your first entrance, remember that this hotel has a different concept. When you reach your villa, you will understand that you have made the right choice. The villas are very comfortable. I especially recommend villas with pools, their outdoor spaces and living areas are more spacious. You will feel yourself in paradise under the plumeria and banana trees. From the large windows of the villas, you enjoy the lush tropical texture of 360 degrees. The bed and pillow are very comfortable, the towels and sheets are of good quality. We recommend the restaurant Dining on the Rock, amazing panaroma and delicious food. The property has its own bay, a beach. The beach is clean and well maintained, the sun loungers are comfortable and clean. During our stay, the tide was low, the sea was shallow, but it was still swimmable compared to many of Thailand's shores. Service on the beach or at the pool was quick, complete. Already the service throughout the hotel is fantastic. The staff is high quality. Congratulations to the hotelier Mrs. Marieke Dijkhuis. We would also like to thank each and every one of you, especially Miguel. Read less
