This hotel has some terrible reviews, but I didn’t experience any of the bad things that are being said. I was here for NYE 2019 to ring in 2020 in the city with my girlfriend and the room was nice and cozy and I didn’t have a lot of issues. Although, the bathroom was a little unique with the toilet being very close to the wall and kind of hard to… Read more

Although, the bathroom was a little unique with the toilet being very close to the wall and kind of hard to sit at. The hotel gets 4 stars because the parking was outrageously overpriced at $67 and we had to wait about 1 hour for the car to be pulled around when we were checked out. Overall, the hotel is fine. We arrived late evening for a three night stay at this hotel . We were greeted by an unhelpful reception guy , told that we had to Pay $45 to cover the cost of coffee and bottled water in our room . I said what if we don’t drink coffee and do not want to drink the warm bottled water do we still have to pay , is reply yes ! I then asked about previous reviews about this hotel ( which I read whilst on the plane . Only wish I read them before agreeing to book ) regarding bedbugs is reply was “ yes we do have them but only in the summer “. I was mortified by this . We were given our room key , on entering the lifts there was a strong odour of cannabis , to the point I felt physically sick , we then exited the lift to be greeted by an even stronger odour of cannabis. I went down to reception to complain about the smell of Cannabis and was told by receptionist that it is legal in this country and what people do In their rooms is their business . I said this is supposed to be a non smoking hotel , I was just laughed at . On entering our room , well where do I start , it hadn’t been cleaned floor was full of bits of debris . As you can imagine by this time my stress levels were raising , it was getting late and we had been travelling all day . All I wanted was a good nights sleep , well fully clothed on the bed with no sleep . The next morning I seeked assistance to be moved to another hotel by our tour rep , which we could at a cost , this I didn’t budget for and tremont would not refund our money . A young pleasant lady approached me in the foyer and asked was everything ok , she could see that I was crying and when I explained everything to her she said I am a maid here and I will come and clean your room for you , and put a new mattress cover on your bed , ( she had 2 days off prior to our arrival ) her name is Zemina her kindness and compassion excels beyond belief this young lady should be working at the front desk , her manner , appearance , shown through compared to the scruffy staff at front of hotel . My partner and I had no choice but to stay , due to budget . I have enclosed some photos . Read less

The Tremont Chicago Hotel is conveniently close to the Magnificent Mile, although I'm not sure of the reason for title. I arrived very late, but had informed the hotel beforehand. The woman on reception duty when I arrived was most helpful and polite. The room faced away from the street, but I don't think that mattered as Chestnut Street isn't all that busy or noisy. The bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom clean, and there was a safe in the wardrobe. Staff on front desk during my stay were obliging and friendly. Unfortunately the bricks fell when I checked out. First the woman on duty this time was grouchy and told me I had to pay an "amenities" fee - for use of water, electricity, a basic coffee maker, etc. This was never mentioned when I booked. Maybe I didn't read the very small print, nor was I informed on check in. I know of "resort" fees being charged in Las Vegas and Palm Springs which are holiday destinations, but a hotel in a side street in Chicago is no resort, nor does it have the facilities of a resort, and I'd hardly call water, electricity and a coffee maker extravagances. If you book accommodation in Chicago, find out first about additional charges. This blow at the end of my stay tended to put a dampener on my stay. Read less

My boyfriend and I booked through a third party website and got this hotel. After reading the reviews I was very nervous about staying here. The only good thing about this hotel is the location. Like others have said this is a hotel in need of major renovations. MAJOR renovations. I have stayed at nicer Super 8 motels. And I am completely serious. The rooms look nothing like what is pictured here. I wish it was just a manner of needing renovations. BEWARE! We found bed bugs in the bed and after discovering them left the hotel immediately. We informed the front desk. They never even apologized nor seemed surprised. They told us they would contact us about this issue. We never heard from them a week later. They offered to "inspect" the room and offered us another room, which we declined. We booked another hotel. My skin is still crawling a week later and my only hope is that we were not in the room long enough for the bugs to get into our stuff. Completely disgusted by this hotel. Completely disappointed about how the hotel handled the situation. There are plenty of other hotels to stay at in the city. Don't stay here unless you want bugs joining you in the bed. I am fairly easily to please when it comes to hotels. I just expect it to be clean and no bugs. Failures on both of these for this hotel. I get it is an old hotel in a historic area, but I never expected to find bed bugs at a hotel on Michigan Avenue. Read less
