The Williamsburg Hotel

Brooklyn, New York

The hotel

In one of Brooklyn’s trendiest areas, the Williamsburg Hotel is in the perfect spot to enjoy some of the less-known New York treats. With quirky independent shops, bars, and spots to sit and enjoy brunch and a coffee. But it’s not all about the location. You can enjoy Med-inspired food, and a choice of bars including one with skyline views and DJ sets. Then there’s the seasonal rooftop pool, bike rentals and yoga classes – what more could you need? And with Manhattan just a taxi or metro-ride away, you’re never too far from the Big Apple.

Hotel was recommended to us by some local people. Perhaps they stayed overnight without an luggage. There is one small shelf in a closet, a hanging closet that does not work if your clothes hang further than 3 feet. There is a nice bed, so that if you want to stay or live in bed that would work fine. No chairs, but a couple of stools. The restaurant is a work in progress. We ate there several times and sometimes the food was good, sometimes the service was good. Nice people that work there, but the management is inept. The surrounding neighborhood is ticky-tack gentrification. Mediocre bars, mediocre coffee shops, mediocre eating places. Why would you want to stay there except the cheap price for NY area. There are no convenient or nearby tourist places. The owner (it seemed to me) seemed to prance around like a big-shot doing nothing I saw as useful except putting the staff on edge. As far as the design, this is a hotel designed by a design architect who has probably never built another hotel, and this is his trial cookie. You know what you do with a trial cookie. Read less

I will preface this review by saying I have stayed at 20+ hotels across New York City over the last 2 years and the service at this property was among the best if not THE best I've had in the city. Big shoutout to Patrick and Olivia for making my birthday stay extra special! Due to an issue with the room I initially checked into (more on that in a bit) I was lucky enough to experience 2 different rooms at this property so I will weigh in on both. Decided to book last minute as a nice gift to myself for my birthday. My room was available at the posted check-in time and the process took no more than 2 minutes. Upon entering my first room, a Queen Room (no terrace), I was quite pleasantly surprised. The room was well furnished and spotlessly clean. Additionally, while the room lacked a terrace, it does have a giant Juliet balcony which is a rare and welcome feature. Two downsides are that I will admit it was a bit small and the bathroom, though visually beautiful, was less than practical for a room with more than 1 guest as the shower was separated from the bed area by nothing but clear glass. That said, both of these "issues" are present in just about every hotel that has opened in New York in the last 15 years so I can't really knock them for it. After about 2 hours in the room, I noticed that the temperature was quite cold. Upon attempting to get the heat working, neither I nor the hotel engineer I inevitably had to call were successful and after about an hour of trying, Olivia at the desk very graciously offered me a new room and a free upgrade for the inconvenience. Very quickly I was met at the door by Patrick to help move my bags and deliver my new keys. I had mentioned to Patrick that it was my birthday and he was very excited to offer me recommendations for what to do and how to celebrate in the area. The new room was a King with Terrace on a higher floor. The room was bigger and had a stunning near-panoramic view of the Manhattan Skyline. While this room had the same bathroom "problem", it was a lot larger and had a really nice bathtub. Perhaps the best part of it all was, Patrick later returned to my room with a bottle of wine, a card signed by all the staff downstairs, and a voucher for free breakfast all in honor of my birthday!!! I appreciated this so much and it was reflective of a level of service beyond what I've received at most of the high-end resorts I've stayed in. All in all, an unforgettable experience and I will definitely be staying here again in the future and recommending highly. Read less

The location is also good within walking distance to shopping, restaurants and subway to go in town. Read less

The hotel feels like modernized version of historical Brooklyn with it's hip decor. This hotel is known for its customer service. It starts with Olivia at the front desk and the bellhop Patrick and continues with each staff member you encounter. The food at the Seven Seas transports you to the Mediterranean. Chef Alberto is an excellent chef and very accommodating. He takes the time to meet his diners and is very charming and passionate about his craft. Overall a great experience and I highly recommend this hotel. Read less

The staff was super helpful (especially Patrick) from helping us plan our days to being accommodating in holding our luggage while we continued to explore. We enjoyed the live jazz session and the creative lobby bar cocktails as well :) Looking forward to our next stay! Hopefully a little warmer so we can use that pool we were looking down at from the water tower! Thanks for having us and providing a great escape. Read less
