When my friends called me from NY to say I should help them plan their 25th wedding anniversary I was excited until I heard that it would be at Sunset Jamaica Grande in Ocho Rios. To say I was... Read more disappointed was putting it mildly. I actually asked them if they couldn't find any other venue. Unable to sway them I decided to work with it. This is one of the most pleasant tasks I have ever performed. The team at Sunset Jamaica Grande made planning so easy. Everything went so well. The staff made sure they dotted all their i's and crossed all their t's. This is one of the best weekends I have ever spent. Everything was good. My gosh the food, the food was great. I really would recommend this hotel to anyone who is planning a function. Be it vacation, wedding, anniversary, conference ,whatever. It is a great venue and the staff is out of this world. Read less

Read more I had a great time at this resort, 6 different pool areas from extremely quiet to party pools. If you're going to spend your vacation in your room this is probably not the place for you.....we were in a partially renovated room and it was good enough to sleep, shower and change in which is all I need. The resort is clean and there are many places to eat a variety of foods. There are excellent life guards at the slide. The staff were wonderful! While we were getting familiar with the grounds the staff would ask us where we wanted to go....it was like they were reading my mind or maybe it was the confused look on my face....it was nice to know that the staff was paying attention to us. For a large resort everything was within a short walk.....fresh towels always ready, sometimes twice a day.....no problem.....lounging chairs always available poolside and on the beach.......most of the rooms have a view of the ocean.....you can walk to go shopping. The pools were a little colder than I expected, however quite refreshing and the jelly fish were playing in the ocean, good thing the nursing station was close and they did a great job taking care of the incidents. I recommend this resort and will go back! It's a distance from the airport but the location is excellent! Dunn's River Falls is a great excursion. If you like to dance check out Margueritaville and if you like karaoke check out Oceans 11! Read less
Jamaica is beautiful! However, the resort was not so great. The rooms were clean, the staff helpful and friendly, the specialty restaurants were very good. The buffet food was okay, the variety was... Read more quite limited and the desserts were passable. I would have preferred more local foods and desserts. The beds were hard - like a rock. There were four of us in two rooms and we both found it the same. My husband and daughter don't like soft beds but this was even too hard for them. We stayed at a less expensive resort in the DR and it was much, much better in every way. We would definitely go back to Jamaica but we would try another resort. Read less
The bus ride to the hotel was informative and the driver stopped for a much appreciated washroom and drink break. It is about 2 hours to the hotel from the airport in Montego Bay. Not bad as the... Read more bonus was we seen a lot of beautiful Jamaican country side along the way. We were part of a group of nine and arrived at Sunset Jamaica Grande for 10 days - Feb 17 – 27. My wife and I were in the South Tower, room 926. A newly renovated Ocean Front Room with a king size bed, exactly as we had requested. We had a beautiful unobstructed view of the ocean. The Housekeeping Staff were friendly and the rooms were cleaned daily. We found the food selection and quality was good. The tap water in Jamaica is safe to drink. Fresh omelets and bacon with a variety of fruits and cereals for breakfast. The Buffet had a variety of food for breakfast, lunch and supper. There was a grill over by North tower that had burgers, hotdogs, fries and grilled cheese. They also have Jamaican patties for sale for $2.00. They were delicious. We visited two À la Carte: The Italian and the Asian, both were very good. They have a beach BBQ on Tuesday night where the Buffet moves outside, very enjoyable. The resort overall is nice. The lobby is huge and felt inviting. There is a little casino in the Main Lobby with 1 and 5 cent machines. The grounds are well kept. The pools are cleaned every day. The beach is raked every morning. The main beach was where you watched the Cruise Ships come in every day except on the week end. The Cruise Ship passengers never came onto the Resort. Two members of our group got stung by jellyfish, but there's not much the Resort can do about that. We were 10 minutes from downtown shopping. We felt safe when we went during the day. Some vendors a little aggressive but if you just said "no thank you" they would leave you alone. While downtown we were approached twice by the local police asking us if everything was ok. Would like to thank the SJG Staff that assisted us in setting up a surprise 50th birthday party for Wesley. A special thank you to the staff working the Splash Bar for looking after us. We were on vacation. Relaxed, had fun, met some great people and enjoyed. Read less
If I had gone by the reviews on here, I would have not stayed at this property! Lucky for me, someone else made the hotel arrangements and we had no choice but to be here. Don't let the negative... Read more reviews deter you! I was pleasantly surprised! The staff at this resort should be highly commended for their great work and attitude! We received quite the welcome upon arrival! And the goodbye though sad was delivered very well! I can't wait to return! All the staff we interacted with had a great spirit to serve which was very refreshing! They would bend over backwards if we made a simple request! They simply exceeded our expectations. From the Bellmen, Front Desk Agents, Concierge, Housekeeping, Bartenders etc everyone had such great attitudes. We stayed in the North tower which was apparently newly renovated. We had great views, rooms were clean and amenities were sufficient. The food at the buffet was great! Buffet food can get tiring quite fast but this resort has five restaurants that serve different meals. The wait staff were great! The bars are fully stocked and there was an endless supply of great cocktails! The Bob Marley was a favorite! Please note that you get the house brands at the bar and there are no top shelf liquors or imported beer. Red Stripe was readily available and it was nice to be able to keep it authentic. There's a club on the premises for those who want to dance the night away. Margaritaville is pretty close and that was by far the best night time experience had! Great atmosphere and awesome tunes while you dance under the stars! The hotel does provide a complimentary shuttle (round trip) to Margaritaville. The cabs are inexpensive too! The outdoor activities were great! Most of the water activities were included in the rate which was great! There's plenty for everyone to do. We didn't want to leave when our vacation time was up! I was traveling with some friends who can be hard to please as they have high standards but they were all happy! The only thing keeping me from giving an excellent rating is the Wi-Fi!! There is a charge of $10 US per day. Why charge for internet at an all inclusive resort? Secondly, the Wi-Fi is only available at the lobby! Even after paying for it, you can't get it in your room which is where you would need it the most! There were always tons of people hurdled up in the lobby by the power sources trying to get a connection! They need to fix this! Internet has become a necessity! I would still highly recommend this property based on the great staff and amenities provided. Read less
