Moon Palace Jamaica

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

The hotel

Occupying centre stage on the largest private beach in Ocho Rios, the Moon Palace Jamaica promises as many sensational sea views as classic Palace Resort touches which is why this is one of the hottest properties in the Caribbean. Consisting of 705 guest rooms, contained within two shimmering towers, you'll be totally spoiled for choice and with four restaurants and six bars to choose from, you certainly won't be left wanting when it comes to a warm welcome. World-class dining options and a tempting gourmet corridor provide a taste of things to come with the excellent Piano Bar offering a world of wine which has been expertly critiqued for your own deliberation. As most guest rooms have fabulous ocean views, fully stocked mini-bars and 24-hour room service, you may prefer to relax in private however, as Family Rooms come with two interconnecting doors you'll be advised to grab the moment while it lasts. Of course, that's not where the fun stops for kids as from their very own pool and FlowRider wave simulator to an organised club and wired teens' lounge, there's plenty of family options to keep your brood happy and active all day long. With four other swimming pools, excellent spa facilities and loads of daily activities, there's never a dull moment and with the stunning Dunn's River Falls just 15-minutes away, getting out and experiencing the very best of Jamaica doesn't get any better than this.

The Moon Palace is a beautiful resort with calm ocean water and a wonderful staff. I give the Moon Palace a 4 due to a couple of minor things that I think could be improved. First, my husband and I were sharing our room with our Teenage son. We expected to have two double beds but ended up getting a room with one King and a roll away. It worked out but was a little disappointing. The only other gripe I have has to do with getting a res at the Momo restaurant. They told us to call at 9am the day we wanted to eat There however after an hour on hold we gave up. One thing to note, you can eat there without a res you only need one if you plan to eat at the hibachi grill. Now on to the good stuff. The resort has many pools and two beaches that open into a bay. This bay is were the cruise ships come in to dock which was always exciting to watch. The water is super calm, no big waves to knock you down, just perfect for floating around. We spent our days at the smaller beach because it had all the “toys” (ie kayaks and paddle boards) which are included. They also provided life jackets and would take you out on a Hobie cat if you wanted to sale along the coastline. The best thing about the beach was the snorkeling. If you like to snorkel, which my family does, bring your gear. We saw all kinds of amazing fish without even leaving the swim area. The flow rider was a fun attraction, we all tried our hand at the boogie board and surf board. I highly recommend it. The one excursion we did was the Dunn’s River Falls. It is a short drive from the resort (15mins) and is really beautiful. Our group ranged from 13 years old to 75 years old. It was challenging but we all held hands and helped each other along and made it up the whole 900 feet. There are lots of spots along the way to take pictures or take a dip in one of the “pools”. Make sure you have a waterproof camera or waterproof bag for your phone. You will need some sort of water shoe (no flip flops) which you can buy for $10 at the entrance. There are several vendors selling handmade items on the path back to the parking lot so be prepared with money if you would like to pick up some souvenirs. Normally we attend the featured entertainment each night but for some reason we never made it to any of the shows so I can’t really speak to the entertainment. We were there over New Years Eve and the resort had a band and some dancers. They also had a marching band that payed music and danced which was really entertaining. They also set off a really nice fireworks show at midnight. The bus ride to/from the resort is long so be prepared for that. It was close to 2 hours. I really enjoyed the bus ride because it gave us a chance to see the country side. Our driver from the airport to the resort even pointed out some sights along the way which was great. Now for some shoutouts to the staff. Analee, thanks for always keeping our coffee cups full. Tavoy, Marko, Dwight, Kendemah, Bradley you guys rock! You made our time on the beach amazing. To the boys behind the bar, Omar, Nicolas, and Chad you make some wonderful drinks (I highly recommend the Omar special) and to Chadae for keeping us “hydrated” thank you! And Debbie, thank you for checking in on us every night to make sure we had what we needed. I can’t say enough about the Jamaican people and I thank you all for sharing your beautiful island with us. One last thing, when you are checking out at the front desk make sure you have your whole group with you because they need to cut off the wrist band of each person on your reservation before closing you out. We would highly tell people to be aware that the bus drive is about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from the airport, which is not a deal breaker, but just some good info to know. The atmosphere of the place was just nice and welcoming (even though a bit busy, still amazing) Read less

Our family of 15 travelers visited Moon Palace Jamaica from 1/18/20-1/25/20. We had such a wonderful time. During parts of our stay, I believe the resort was nearly at capacity. The resort was busy but the staff was phenomenal to say the least. The adults were treated to service from Joseph by the activities pool for the entire week (it was raining on his day off so we didnt really stay by the pool) Joseph treated us like family and the service could not have been better. The entertainment staff, specifically Yahsawn and Romell were the absolute best. I dont think I truly have the words to describe what these two young men meant to my children (ages 14, 12 and 9). They went above and beyond during our entire stay to make my children feel like the only ones at the resort. This treatment was 2nd to none. Thank you to the staff at Moon Palace for making our stay magical. Even the slightest of things such as slow elevators and the occasional crowds of people became so minor because we were just treated so kindly. During our stay we also enjoyed the snorkeling excursion, sunset cruise and the dolphin swim. All were excellent. The spa was also phenomenal. Cant wait until we can return! Read less
