aha Casa do Sol

Kruger and surrounds, South Africa

The hotel

A little piece of the Mediterranean in Africa’s safari land, this rustic yet refined retreat may be rooted in the Med (think terracotta tiles, patio dining, and pretty garden swimming pools), but beyond its architectural styling, everything’s decidedly South African. In the 500 hectare Ilanga Nature and Game Reserve, with an elephant sanctuary as one of its nearest neighbours, aha Casa do Sol Hotel & Resort is just five minutes’ drive from Hazyview’s restaurants and shops, and makes a scenic home-from-home for those exploring the sub-tropical Lowveld – with the Phabeni Gate of Kruger National Park just 20 minutes’ drive away.

I felt that we had wasted a night's stay in that Casa because he hardly slept or had any rest because of the strong paint smell and constant dripping of water on our bed. We were not moved same day :-(

Stayed here for a night after coming out of the Kruger National Park. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The swimming pool area great. We did not have dinner at the hotel as we felt the cost for a carvery was expensive, fortunately Hazyview is close by and has a few good restaurants to choose from. The breakfast the next morning was good.

Stayed for 2 nights. The hotel has an old world feel and the rooms are lovely, beds are very comfortable. The buffet breakfast is very good and the staff are very friendly. The grounds are beautiful with a lovely pool and troops of monkeys roaming around, they don't seem to bother people.

The European feel, the gardens, the aged ambience, all fantastic. The bed was super comfortable and the room had all the amenities that we required. Had our own private garden which was gorgeous. Staff were friendly & the vibe was spot on.

This hotel is a fair distance out of town. The dirt road into the hotel is terrible and gets worst when it rains. The buildings themselves appear interesting, that is until you see the cobble stone passage ways which are not advisable for persons with walking impairments. The food was ok if average. But the rooms deserve the most critique. Lack of maintenance, light switches broken, toilet and shower built for midgets, and the read ceiling hasn't been cleaned for ages. Toilet had a bad smell and dirty water came out of the taps. Really very average and below. Read less
