My wife and I stayed at 3 different lodges during our 9 nights safari holiday. We chose to stay at Jocks for 4 nights and end our holiday at Jocks because we were confident that Jocks would provide all that we required during the final days. We were right to do so…. Jocks do not disappoint. Jocks has been the ONLY lodge that we have ever returned to having previously had 7 safari holidays visiting many different lodges and camps situated within 4 different countries in Africa. The lodge is looking a TINY bit tired in places and could do with a little TLC in VERY minor places like gate latches, tighten up wire fences, lick of wood finish here and there but these ARE minor issues. We would not class the lodge as high luxury but what it lacks in finesse is MORE than made up for in rustic charm. The lodge has the added advantage of being very secure. You do NOT require escorting to your rooms when it is dark and you are always free to wander the very attractive grounds at any time of day in perfect safety. The fencing is not ‘in your face’….in fact it can only be seen from the far edges of the enclosure of each ‘hut or if you bother to walk along the extremes of the property…which is highly unlikely. Service and food is excellent. Each property has a private plunge pool and an interior and exterior shower with the addition of a deep bath tub outside. All is VERY private. In addition, each property has an outside ‘hut’ in which you can opt to sleep SAFELY at night. My wife and I did so this year and though the bed was not quite as comfortable as the bed inside the main ‘hut’ the experience IS highly recommended. To hear the sounds at night and to witness daybreak IS ‘special’ There are lights that enable viewing to some extent…I saw elephants directly by the hut and heard elephants, lions roaring, heard the dawn chorus, enjoyed a ‘dry’ thunder storm and more besides……all of that accompanied by the noises of my wife snoring!! VERY close sightings of elephants are frequent. Last year we saw a herd of over 40 elephants directly to the side and front of the main eating area…this year there were over 60. The lodge shouts charm. The basis of the camp is worth knowing as all of the staff get to share in the profits….and they all deserve to as each and every one contributes to the happy ‘feel’ of the place. All work very hard to ensure the happiness of the guests. It is the animal viewing that is of course the main attraction and Jocks will NOT disappoint. We were extremely lucky to have the same guide as we did last year…. Jacob. We refer to him as ‘telescope eyes’ because it TRULY is incredible what this man can spot and from what distance. Among his other talents is his ability to mimic the sounds of quite a few animals to which we have witnessed as close as you are likely to get of hearing a conversation between a human and a rhino!!!! His tracking skills are second to none as is his extensive knowledge of all wildlife in the region….and yes, he is also quite a witty chap!! Jacob obviously loves his work and his enthusiasm cannot fail to contribute to any safari experience. Animal sightings will NOT disappoint….. there is every chance that you would enjoy many ‘special’ moments. We have visited more luxurious lodges but Jocks is the ‘complete package. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Read less

Meals were frequent, plentiful and fresh (the bbq under the night sky was my favorite); the game drives were amazing...our eagle-eyed guide Lazarus showed us the big 5 and many many more. While everyone's experience will be different, here are some of the things we saw: elephants in the backyard daily, a pride of lions feeding on a wildebeest, a leopard with its kill (an impala) up in a tree (at night, there was a hyena waiting underneath for droppings!), so many baby animals with their moms, even saw the Milky Way on a dark night. Jock is well located in an area full of life & has great staff. Tip: don't skip the night drives. Read less

We spent four fabulous days at Jock as part of our trip to Africa to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Upon our arrival, we received a warm welcome from Delsy at the front desk who escorted us to our cabin and explained the lodge's daily schedule to us. The cabin was beautifully appointed with a large bed replete with mosquito netting, a sitting area, refrigerator, and a large bathroom with a double shower and separate toilet area. There was also a very nice private deck with a small plunge pool and a daybed enclosed in a mosquito-proof tent. Unfortunately, the pool was too cold to use, but we enjoyed relaxing on the daybed between game drives. Jacob was our excellent field guide and amazed us with not only his vast knowledge about the flora and fauna but also his ability to serve as both a driver and tracker at the same time. We also appreciated his easygoing, friendly demeanor and his dry sense of humor. Meals at Jock were absolutely outstanding as well and we had to try to restrain ourselves from eating too much throughout the day. Every employee we interacted with at Jock was friendly and pleasant, but we'd like to extend a special thanks to our servers in the restaurant: Precious, Albert, and Khaya. Having dinner under the stars on the riverbed while watching elephants in the distance was magical. Thank you to everyone at Jock for making our vacation simply out of this world! Read less

Our trip to Jock Safari Lodge was one of the best experiences of our lifetime. From being picked up at the airport in Kruger by our guide, through 4 nights and 8 Safaris, to the final day, the whole experience was mind blowing. Mayneth our guide was so knowledgeable, accommodating, friendly and he cared so much that his guests had the full Safari experience. We saw every animal we had hoped for and more. His drives were not only educational but great fun too. The rest of Jock staff were all so amazing as well. The food was outstanding and you never left a meal unfulfilled. The attention to detail is very 5 star. I cannot recommend Jock Safari Lodge enough and will always remember this trip as a life memory. If you are thinking of booking, have no doubt that every penny it costs is well spent Read less
