It is located amid the breathtaking landscapes of Sabi Sands and combines exceptional service with a superb safari experience - what could be better? If you have a head for heights, stay in the unique Rock Lodge, high above the reserve, where all rooms have beautiful panoramic views and are carved out of the Ulusaba rock itself. For a change of scenery, why not combine your stay with Ulusaba's nearby Safari Lodge, located right in the heart of the bush. Your day starts early with a cup of tea and then it's out to the 4WDs in search of the reserve's exciting creatures. Then it's back to the lodge for a delicious hearty breakfast and a chance to enjoy the impressive leisure facilities. The experience we had at Ulusaba was phenomenal!! You truly feel that you are visiting a family, our ranger Kyle and tracker Conny, truly cared about our experience and wanted us to love the bush like they do. The food was phenomenal. November is a bit hot but the game drives, the mid morning bush coffee and the sun downers were still amazing. We will definitely be coming back, would love to get a round in at Leopard’s Creek. While Mara will always be a reminder of home, Kruger now also has a special place in my heart. Read less

This is a very special place that we are sad to leave but happy in the knowledge that we will be back and we are taking some amazing memories with us. We came in via Skakuza airport (1.5hr transfer) and were met at the Lodge's reception, located at their own airport. We discovered they have a direct transfer from Joburg if you would like to cut down on the travel time!! Met at the lovely open reception with cool towels and a glass of bubbles (or juice) we were introduced for our Ranger and Tracker for the stay - Stuart and Respect. They were both very welcoming and chatted to us whilst we enjoyed a drink and filled in the necessary paperwork. After a short ride in our jeep up to Rock lodge (going up and down rock as they call it is a fun way to start our drives!!). We were met by Godfrey who gave us the tour and all the information we needed before taking us to our room - Rock Cliff 4. Our room was one of the standard rooms but it was still spacious and luxurious. An amazing bathroom with superb products, our own private balcony and comfortable bed...plus a great view where you can see some of the wildlife passing by. The amenities were superb, with a fully stocked mini bar (included), tea and coffee facilities (including Nespresso machine) and all the international sockets you need for portable devices. The laundry service is included and comes in really handy if you are on a long trip! The game drives happen twice a day (after afternoon tea at 4pm and a morning one at 5.30am). The mornings were a little hard to get used to but they were worth it. Stuart met us in the lounge before each drive (usually helping us to get a much needed coffee in the morning). There was no pressure but he ensured we were out on time. Stuart and Respect were a fantastic team. With Respect sitting in the hot seat at the front of the jeep tracking and spotting the animals we were looking for. A tough job but he was always smiling and was in good spirits, having a laugh with us during the drive. We discovered he was actual on a weeks trial and hoping to join the team - we hope he is successful as he was a passionate young man with great skills. Stuart was also amazing, imparting his huge knowledge with us during the rides, making us feel safe and always thinking about our comfort. They both went above and beyond to ensure we saw as much as we could. Other experiences when out on safari were great surprises, which apparently vary. OUrs included a bush breakfast (pancakes and bucks fizz in the bush), tribal dancing and walk with the wildlife (where we came close to Elephants). The Lodge staff were amazing, headed up by Sandra (although she is normally at the sister lodge - Safari Lodge). She was always on hand to ensure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. It was effortless impeccable service that I have only ever experienced at the very best of places around the world. There are too many others in the lodge to mention that ensured our stay was great. It was so nice to have such consistent great service. The food and drinks were available in abundance and nothing really appeared to be too much trouble. If we wanted something they would try their best to produce it for us. Breakfast was normally with your jeep team, which gave you a nice opportunity to chat to Stuart about what we saw and learn some more about life in the park. Lunch was light in the main but if you really needed more it was available. Dinner was a highlight as it was a communal affair starting with a presentation of the menu and wine pairing by the team. Served sometimes inside sometimes out it was always relaxed and tasty. A veggie option was always on offer. At first we were nervous about the communal aspect of the trip but to be honest it was great. They want you to feel at home and this really helps that atmosphere. Everyone was in the same boat and really made an effort to have a relaxed chatty experience. If this isn't your thing though, you can ask for a private meal and they will accommodate. We had this experience in the wine cellar for our anniversary - it was very special. Other bits to note - the spa treatments were great and well priced. Without question this is one of the most special hotels and best experiences I have had in my time travelling. We will be back without question. Read less

We have just spent an amazing 4 days at this lodge and it was the most amazing experience. Definitely bucket list...tick! It really shows that all the staff have customer service as their priority. We were met by Godfrey who was so welcoming and showed us to our wonderful room overlooking the lands, what a view. You get 2 drives a day one at 5 am and one at 4.30 pm. I would say with confidence you would see the big 5. We were really lucky to have Stuart as our ranger (a bottomless pit of knowledge and so passionate about the wildlife) and respect as our tracker (who’s smily face made the 5 am starts more bearable). I loved some of the other snippets of information such as the bird calls and dances in particular the champagne cork bird and the hornbill dance (definitely get your ranger to point this out). The food and drinks are amazing but be mindful of the early starts as it was all to easy for us to stay up enjoying a wine at the bar especially as we were so lucky to met such nice people (Chris and carina). Some top tips, make time for a spa treatment as the ladies there do a wonderful job, enjoy a private meal in the wine cellar and be prepared the day can be quite full on so probably 3/4 days would be enough if you are wanting to explore other parts of South Africa too. Can’t fault this experience thank you so much to Stuart, Sandra and respect. I will never forgot seeing the 3 leopards together as a family and tracking them through the wilderness. Also the honey butter at breakfast and hot chocolate with Amerula..wow! Will need to make up for that at the gym when we get home! Read less
