Every year my husband attends an architecture conference here. And every year we’re given an itsy bitsy, teeny tiny room. With an even itsier bitsier bathroom. Honestly, I’ve been in airplane bathrooms that are bigger. (See photos) When you first enter the lobby there is an overpowering floral scent that sets off a coughing fit in me every time I go through the doors. With the number of people who suffer from asthma and scent allergies I find it surprising that they do this. The two chairs in the recently renovated rooms are ridiculous. Uncomfortable in the extreme, they are not built for any body type. It doesn’t matter whether you’re tall, short, fat, thin, you will not be comfortable sitting in these chairs. Did the person who chose them even sit in them for one minute? Back in the bathroom, there is a robe hook at the top of the door that even my 6’ 1 husband has trouble reaching. I mean, why bother? Apart from the extreme smallness of the rooms is the service (?). When you check in you’re told if there is anything at all you require or need assistance with, to press the ‘Royal Service’ button on your phone. The first day I called and asked for a teapot. “Oh, I’m afraid we don’t have any teapots to give you” I was told. Come on, there are probably hundreds of teapots in that kitchen but they won’t allow me to have one? On our last day we called early in the morning to ask if we could have a later checkout time. “No, I’m sorry” we were told. Royal Service eh? I want to make clear that almost all the people who work here, from the parking attendants to the servers and housekeeping staff are wonderful. They’re pleasant, helpful and eager to please, all for the meager minimum wage they’re likely earning. I really just want people to understand what they’re getting when they book at this hotel. The Fairmont rooms are very small and very basic. Manage your expectations. This is an extremely expensive hotel with a very high profile. People pay a lot of money to stay here and the experience really comes up short in some respects. Read less

Alex was an informative, engaged tour guide who genuinely loves the area and sharing interesting facts about it. He is also a great photographer who took many great pictures of our group that we will always treasure. Read less
