Firstly the good. Thankfully the Guest Services or "Bell Hops" were fantastic. Encountered Simon a few times and always happy and enthusiastic. Really they were all great. Anything you want, just ask. The views from the back of the hotel lured us to beautiful Bow Falls and on to dinner at The Waldhaus with gorgeous views, great atmosphere, nice food and the fabulous Jarrod who looked after us and ordered a shuttle to come down from the hotel to take us back. These are the people who saved our stay at Fairmont Banff Springs. Some other staff were not so accommodating and so breakfast left us cold. We were 30 people arriving on a bus at the end of a long day and the fellow who checked us in appeared to want us all in the rain to collect our keys. Fortunately the bus driver suggested he give out our keys on the bus. The room was adequate with the shower over the bath, which seems common in the old yet expensive establishments. Smoking areas are provided outside. We found it interesting that the hotel provided a free shuttle service to the downtown area but would not take you back. It was raining steadily so we opted for a taxi at $10 which was reasonable. There are many shops on the premises, including a small general store and a bottle shop. Prices were competitive with town. All in all not a bad experience but also not quite as wonderful as we had expected. Read less

We chose this as it it was recommended as the best place to stay in Banff region (luxurious that is) by numerous threads and websites. We chose this as it it was recommended as the best place to stay in Banff region (luxurious that is) by numerous threads and websites. To clarify, as much we love the nature we were looking for a luxury vacation in the mountains and definitely paid much more than enough to expect it. What a sore disappointment. Firstly, we stayed in a GoLd room on a private floor of this huge hotel so we had a separate check in area, lounge etc. Given the overcrowding in the hotel- good luck who were staying in the “general” area. The hotel has hordes of cruise groups and tour groups and the general areas looked like a train station 24/7. Now coming to the specifics : 1. Coming from Manhattan we know our fair share of small hotel rooms but really was not expecting to be stuck in a tiny one with a single window and a bathroom with no tub for over $1000/night. The size of the room is absolutely unacceptable for the price and the impression this hotel gives of being a “luxury” one. 2. The gold lounge area breakfast had fewer hot items than a standard $15 breakfast and was not even worth fighting the crowds for. They really need to step up the game here. 3. The credit card we had given (we stayed a long 9 nights) was being charged for some $ or the other every single day whereas we were told it was just to block and we can pay for incidentals at check out (which is standard process everywhere in the world). There was no detailed explanation for these repeated charges at check out and we were too late to argue over each $. Wish we had the time to investigate. 4. The fact that valet parking would cost $74/each time was never written/verbally mentioned or even indicated anywhere. Note the hotel is big so it took them 20 mins to get our car to us each time and self parking would have been tough but we would have gone for it had we known that valet parking would cost that much. 5. The sauna and the hot water pool was chargeable! Even to Gold level guests! And they couldn’t even guarantee access- you had to advance book. What’s the point of being a hotel guest then and that too a Gold one? This hotel really needs to review these policies and make them more attune to what is standard across the world. 6. The massage which cost upwards of $250 with tip was a 5/10 at best. Even Chinatown in New York does a better job. The pros worth mentioning 1. Check in desk friendly 2. Majority of staff/servers friendly and well mannered Summary: save your money and stay elsewhere- Banff is gorgeous and a basic hotel won’t change that and you won’t be rippped off. Read less

Fairmont Banff Spring is truly a spectacular and unique structures, seldom seen elsewhere! A picturesque Landmark! Hotel services were excellent and warm, we felt the peace and tranquility during our stay in July! Plenty to do to explore inside Fairmont Banff Springs itself and also the city center! It’s worth a repeat visit in the Sumner!
