I am currently staying at the hotel for the night. I booked the hotel (paid full in advance) days ago requested a king-bed. When I arrived the front desk person told me he's upgrading me to a suit (did he think I am stupid!). When I went to the room the first thing I noticed was the loud whistling sound of a train, even the guy who brought the luggage up asked me whether I could sleep with that sound, I went down and told the guy about my concern. He said there are no King-Bed available so I only can give you a Queen-Bed. After miles of hike in Banff and being so tired I took it. When TripAdvisor sent me an email asking me how my experience was at the checking, I replied: NOT HAPPY. Soon after I received an email from the hotel telling me that all their rooms are booked this weekend and offered an apology. I wrote back and explained that I had booked a King-Bed and there was a reason behind it (my husband is tall and his legs are hanging out of a queen bed), she wrote back: well we gave you a newly renovated room with a great view!!! I responded that is not going to make the queen-bed more comfortable for my husband. That's what she wrote back: I do apologize, but unfortunately this weekend we are very limited on our King bed inventory. We do have a One Bedroom Suite with a King sized bed available that is not along the train side but it is not as newly renovated and is an additional fee. Due to your concerns, I would be happy to offer it at a discounted upgrade fee if you are interested in this option. Michelle Andrews If you ask me this is really disgraceful. If I wanted to pay extra $$$ to book a suit I would had done it so myself. You sold me a King-Bed while it was not available. That is a very unprofessional thing to do for a luxury hotel, if you were an Inn then I would say you would need to do any tricks to survive but you are Fairmont (even the name comes with a very high responsibility toward the guests, I always thought you could trust Fairmont). I was deceived! I could've gone to any other 4 or 5 stars hotel in downtown! The reasoning given by this Michelle Andrews was very childish (1- you now have a newly renovated room with a view 2- we all are booked up, 3- if you are not comfortable pay more I'll upgrade you). Disgraceful! never again going back to Fairmont in Calgary! Read less

I booked this hotel as a luxury first night stay after a long flight. It did not disappoint. I was treated to a massage in the spa by my son which was fab and I had a great night sleep in the comfortable bed!

We booked the gold floor for our family of three and were happily surprised by a fantastic upgrade. There were treats and even a super hero colouring book for my daughter, as we had booked for the Calgary Comic Expo. I have stayed before and loved the service and food on the Gold Floor Lounge and was excited to have my family share the experience. Everything was fantastic except the food. They had plenty of it, but have recently switched owners and have resorted to pre-made frozen pancakes and waffles with their Gold Floor Breakfast. It felt cheap and I was really disappointed as this was something I used as a selling point to convince my husband to splurge and stay there. The food was adequate and was displayed beautifully, but was sadly not to the level I had come to expect Read less

This hotel knows how to do it right. Super location, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff, the restaurant was awesome. I didn’t visit the spa, but look forward to next time! The gym equipment needs a refresh, but that is a small detail after such a fantastic overall experience.
