The Crimson

Jasper, Alberta

The hotel

A true Rockies experience with a contemporary edge, The Crimson Jasper’s lobby greets you with artfully displayed logs and wooden skis — and naturally the odd touch of crimson inspired by the nation’s maple leaf flag and Mountie livery. Part of the fabric of Jasper, it’s only a block from downtown’s laid-back eateries and typical mountain village shops, with all the adventures of Jasper National Park in touching distance — including its snow sports thanks to the seasonal ski shuttle. You can stay active whether it’s ski season or not, with the hotel’s Peak fitness room and indoor pool, before relaxing in its hot tub. It may have Jasper’s restaurants moments away, but ‘dining in’ takes you right around the globe, with its C200 restaurant’s eclectic menu flitting from Pad Thai, to Jambalaya, to stuffed Yorkshire puddings, and to Bison Shortribs.

We did have a balcony with table and chairs which was quite nice and the room was large and bright. The hotel was in a good position, only a short walk into town and next to a supermarket which was convenient. However it was the only hotel where we had to lug our own luggage from the bus to our room and it was quite a long walk. Read less

We had a big room on the top floor overlooking the mountains and trains which we found absolutely charming. The room had a kitchenette, tables and chairs and two beds with plenty of room for luggage. Beautiful rooms, modern and new in appearance, with ample room, comfortable beds and amenities. Common areas like lobby and hallways looked good. Pool/hot tub area was short on decor, mostly white and sterile-like, but nice otherwise. Person I called and made reservations with was very kind and friendly, front desk had similar demeanor. Perfect location in the middle of Jasper, close walking distance to shops and restaurants. Only issue was the toilet in our room; it kept running. Sometimes every couple minutes. Maintenance came when we were out for hours (didn't leave note) but we didn't know that, since when we returned the toilet was still running. That's when we found out they adjusted a valve, but my husband said it had nothing to do with what was wrong. He explained to the maintenance guy (who was nice, just not the most experienced) what was wrong, a basic part that hotels should have on hand since it generally needs to be replaced every couple years. Unfortunately, the hotel didn't have this part or the ability to get it that day. So, we had to turn the toilet off overnight. I still gave the hotel a 5 though, since I assume this is an isolated issue, but management should keep frequently needed parts on hand and get better trained maintenance help. Otherwise, perfect location and room, we were happy to be here. Read less

My husband asked if there was a nearer room as I suffer from Multiple Sclerosis and cannot walk very far but was told there wasn't without the staff even looking! The hotel is almost a "U" shape. The most annoying thing was that a 25yard walk across the car park cut the distance to the room by at least 70% and the didn't even tell us! The room was very basic. There was a kettle but no tea, coffee or milk in the room. My husband went to reception and it was an effort for the staff to give him tea and coffee and told him that we would have to wait until the attached restaurant opened in an hour to get some milk. He decided to go to the supermarket and buy a carton instead. This hotel is rated 3 star which I feel is overrated. Read less

Comfortable hotel with Restaurant and bar operated by a separate operator, which we didn't use simply because we found Jasper had a number of good restaurants and as we were only there for two nights we decided to use them. The only issue I found was the railway across the road, which although the hotel cannot be held responsible, I did suffer one night's disturbed sleep when the railway decided to move a few trucks around, other than tht the hotel is acceptable.
