Just checked into our room at the venerable Banff Springs Hotel. My husband is attending the Alberta Association of Architects conference that’s held here annually. We arrived at noon and I had to wait until close to 4:00 for our room to be ready. I’d almost rather still be sitting out in the lobby where at least I had a comfortable chair to sit and wait. The room, as they usually are, is completely underwhelming. It’s been newly renovated so at least it’s not shabby. That’s about all I can say for it. One very small window and two chairs that are about as hard and uncomfortable as chairs could possibly be. I’ll definitely be sitting on the bed. As my husband so often says “does anyone actually ever try these things out before they choose them?” I suppose some interior designer decided they looked good so who cares if anyone can actually sit in them”. I always advise people to manage their expectations when booking at this hotel. There are some beautiful rooms but you’re probably not going to get one. Small and basic and pay through the nose is what you’re likely to end up with. And before a management response tells me that most people who stay here are coming, not for the room, but for all the wonderful things to see and do in Banff, I would say well then, just save yourself hundreds of dollars a night and go stay in a Motel 6. We were quite impressed with the level of information and experience of our guides on the Vermilion Lakes bike ride and the wildlife corridor tour. Guides (Alex, Daniel and Scott) were highly knowledgeable and experienced. Truly made our vacation experience excellent and fun. Would suggest making the wildlife corridor tour a longer experience because there is so much information and many sites. It’s a shame to hurry through. Two hours could easily be 2.5-3. Read less

Architecturally, the building is magnificent, however it was built in 1880. A lot of stonework which makes renovations difficult. Rooms are small, bathrooms even smaller. Meals overpriced. $6 for a cup of coffee! $5 for an OJ. We spent $400 for a tour through "the forest" at dusk to see the wildlife. Yes, there is no guarantee to see any… Read more

Meals overpriced. $6 for a cup of coffee! $5 for an OJ. We spent $400 for a tour through "the forest" at dusk to see the wildlife. Yes, there is no guarantee to see any wildlife, but driving around the perimeter of the golf course while people are still playing golf, do you honestly think the wildlife is going to be nearby? Obviously not. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS "TOUR". Read less

From the moment I arrived at the gate, the receptionist: the spa, the breakfast, the bar, the dinner, the room and to the breathtaking views around. Everything is exceptional. If you’re going as a couple, highly recommend the Junior Suite Queen Turret. Best view in the hotel, overseeing beautiful river and mountain views. Perfect for sunrise and sunset. If you’re a dog lover, you have to meet the hotel dog, Bear! What a cutie, I’d love to have Bear to stay in my room. You can also take Bear for a walk! Thank you for making my birthday a memorable one, Fairmont Banff! Read less
