The hotel

Having recently been the proud recipient of a ‘Best Renovations’ award, the Intercontinental Montréal offers luxury accommodation in one of the city’s most sought after locations. Combining the exclusivity of a boutique hotel with top-tier service, guests are most certainly in for a treat when staying here, relaxing in rooms that are sumptuously furnished with plenty of space to stretch out in. On the 10th floor is the fitness centre with state-of-the-art equipment and aerobic classes. Alternatively, head to the indoor pool to swim a few laps or chill out in the spa tub. Osco! means ‘bravo!’, a sentiment you’ll heartily agree with at the Intercontinental’s signature restaurant, a Province-inspired brasserie with an ever-changing menu. There’s also the Sarah B Bar, named after Sarah Bernhardt, the queen of the French Tragedy, whose spirit is said to wander the vaults of the hotel — so keep your eyes peeled! At ‘green hour’, Absinthe is served. Known as the ‘green fairy’ it was said to enhance the creative energies of the great 19th century European writers and artists, including Sarah Bernhardt, but beware, at 55–75% proof, it’s not a tipple for the faint hearted!

The pool is open during summer only and most welcome for cooling dips inbetween sightseeing.

We informed the front desk, and though it wasn’t addressed immediately, a very kind manager came to our room personally to apologize and clean the bathtub himself. His attentiveness made up for the initial problem, and we didn’t experience any further cleaning issues during our stay. On the bright side, the breakfast was outstanding. The staff were wonderful, and the lady manager’s warm, personal touch—guiding each guest to their table and ensuring they were satisfied—really stood out. It is true that rooms could be updated. My room had a relatively new bathroom and it was very nice even if small. But certainly furniture in main area could be updated for appearance and comfort. Regardless, I would stay here again! I got a Club room higher up and it was quiet as can be. The staff, from housekeeping to front desk to servers made the trip super comfortable and relaxing. For example, when it appeared I wouldn't get a flight out due to Tropical Storm Debby, the saved me a room for that extra night. The staff in the Club room created a nice, cozy and friendly atmosphere. And while I found it a bit unacceptable that the coffee machine was broken, the staff went and got us Latte's or Cappuccino's from somewhere. The staff and location make this hotel what it is.
