InterContinental Montreal

Montreal, Canada

The hotel

Having recently been the proud recipient of a ‘Best Renovations’ award, the Intercontinental Montréal offers luxury accommodation in one of the city’s most sought after locations. Combining the exclusivity of a boutique hotel with top-tier service, guests are most certainly in for a treat when staying here, relaxing in rooms that are sumptuously furnished with plenty of space to stretch out in. On the 10th floor is the fitness centre with state-of-the-art equipment and aerobic classes. Alternatively, head to the indoor pool to swim a few laps or chill out in the spa tub. Osco! means ‘bravo!’, a sentiment you’ll heartily agree with at the Intercontinental’s signature restaurant, a Province-inspired brasserie with an ever-changing menu. There’s also the Sarah B Bar, named after Sarah Bernhardt, the queen of the French Tragedy, whose spirit is said to wander the vaults of the hotel — so keep your eyes peeled! At ‘green hour’, Absinthe is served. Known as the ‘green fairy’ it was said to enhance the creative energies of the great 19th century European writers and artists, including Sarah Bernhardt, but beware, at 55–75% proof, it’s not a tipple for the faint hearted!

This is a grand hotel in an excellent location - needs renovation of the rooms and facilities asap - dark rooms - musty smells - low ceilings - dark furniture - dark carpets - Shower had little pressure and too small for even one person. Customer Service was good-

We were pleasantly surprised with this boutique hotel. We were a group of three (2 adults and a teen). We booked a double room with the free breakfast deal. Our room was on the 19th floor and had a lovely view. Room: Beds were very comfy, although we would have preferred two queen beds. The room was very spacious with a small sitting area in the corner. We really enjoyed the view and the charming boutique-feel decor. Gave us the feel of being in old Montreal. The bathroom was a decent size but don’t expect to do any soaking in the bathtub as it’s quite small. The shower was separate in the corner and even though it was small we were happy with it. We did have a toilet issue upon checking in, which maintenance resolved immediately. Tip: the toilets are all new so hold the handle down until the flushing is finished. We loved being able to control our room temperature - the room cooled off nicely for us. And we had no issues with a musty smell as others have noted. Nice large TV with a variety of channels. We had a mini fridge which was nice and when we asked for additional towels they were delivered within minutes. We never had any issues with the elevator even though it was a busy weekend. Location - PERFECT! Walking distance to Old Montreal and the Port where there is lots to see and do. Very quiet and we slept well. Easy access for Uber and taxis. Restaurant - We enjoyed our breakfast at Osco’s and the service was ok. The croissants are delicious - a mist try! We didn’t try dinner in our hotel as we ventured out each day and night. Value - We booked through a third party provider and we’re very happy with the hotel overall, feeling the value was 5/5. Check in was very prompt and 5/5 for service! Our check in agent was very friendly and helpful. She even provided us with a map and directions to the port and some nice restaurants. If you’re looking for a boutique hotel in Old Montreal this is an excellent choice and you won’t be disappointed! Read less

As an IHG Spire Ambassador member this was one of the worst stays in a hotel from the IHG group. There was no allocated checkin for Ambassador members and we had to wait in line to check in. My stay preferences indicate I prefer a room on a high floor away from elevator as I am a light sleeper. We got a room next to the elevator on the lowest floor.Upon arrival in the room there were hair on and under the face towels indicating cleaning is not really a priority. Our Kleenex tissues were never refilled/replaced after day one when we used the last few. We had to ask for robes, and were only given 2 towels at a time unless we asked for more. The bed was made using a flat sheet at the bottom, and not a fitted sheet as in every other hotel I have stayed in. Then further sheet, but only the duvet in its cover. Unheard of. Yes management offered us a complimentary breakfast after I complained about the dirty bathroom to make it all better. At check in we were asked if we would like a welcome snack. We said we would and was sent a charcuterie plate. it was presented with one sideplate, one napkin and one knife, even though we were two guests. Not even at Holiday Inn have I experienced such low standards and disinterest in customer service or satisfaction. Thank you for spoiling the stay experience in Montreal this weekend. Never again. Some lamps have switches on the lamps, some on the cord, one even had a step-on switch button cord under a chair. Never did figure out what some wall switches were for. Whole process very frustrating & annoying throughout our stay. Bathroom lighting dim and mag. mirror in a poor place & didn't hold its position. Outlets also an issue, at least 3 not working. Sofa & easy chairs built for long legged people. No cushions to put behind your back. Not comfortable at all. Overall decor in suite is dated and tired looking. Read less

Due to the strike at the Hilton Doubletree, we were rerouted here. At first, they couldn’t find a reservation for us. The lady at the desk was really kind though in helping us and got us a room. I asked her about parking and she said to come to the desk when we plan to leave and they’d give us a ticket to leave so we didn’t have to pay for parking. They room was not bad, although it was dark most of the time since we had to keep our blinds closed due to maintenance outside the window both days we were there. What tipped the scales for us was when we were checking out, the man at the front desk was pretty rude in helping us. I mentioned that we were told to come to the desk to get a parking stub so we can leave. He looked at us oddly and said that nothing was mentioned and that I have to use my stub to leave. I repeated what was told to me yesterday, he made a phone call and assertively said that they can’t do anything and I have to use the ticket to leave the parkade. End of the day, it’s a parking pay stub I can pay for. It’s the way I felt he handled the situation. I work in hotel hospitality as well and I felt that it was poorly handled with the miscommunication/misunderstanding. Not sure if I’d come back yet Read less
