The hotel

Having recently been the proud recipient of a ‘Best Renovations’ award, the Intercontinental Montréal offers luxury accommodation in one of the city’s most sought after locations. Combining the exclusivity of a boutique hotel with top-tier service, guests are most certainly in for a treat when staying here, relaxing in rooms that are sumptuously furnished with plenty of space to stretch out in. On the 10th floor is the fitness centre with state-of-the-art equipment and aerobic classes. Alternatively, head to the indoor pool to swim a few laps or chill out in the spa tub. Osco! means ‘bravo!’, a sentiment you’ll heartily agree with at the Intercontinental’s signature restaurant, a Province-inspired brasserie with an ever-changing menu. There’s also the Sarah B Bar, named after Sarah Bernhardt, the queen of the French Tragedy, whose spirit is said to wander the vaults of the hotel — so keep your eyes peeled! At ‘green hour’, Absinthe is served. Known as the ‘green fairy’ it was said to enhance the creative energies of the great 19th century European writers and artists, including Sarah Bernhardt, but beware, at 55–75% proof, it’s not a tipple for the faint hearted!

I rarely write reviews but this stay warranted putting some effort in. Firstly the logistics, it’s a brilliantly located hotel and I personally had a great room with a great view. The decor is a little dated but it’s clean and functional. Apparently there is a renovation program planned for next year but the communal areas are great. But without doubt the crowning glory of this establishment is the staff. From the well turned out, friendly professional reception staff to the hard working cleaners. However whilst this team was great the real stars are the bar and lounge staff. All of them were great but some special mentions are necessary. In the Bar the lovely Johanna was a ray of sunshine, we were genuinely made to feel part of the family and I never saw her stop working once. In the lounge was Johnathan ‘Johnnie’. An exceptional young man with such a great outlook on life even at his young age. Had some great conversations and again no task was too much trouble for him. This brings me to the beating heart of the Intercontinental, Larry. This guy is part comedian, part barman, part story teller, part waiter but all fantastic host. I had a two weeks of a conference that at times bored me to death but going to the lounge made the long days worth it. These guys were the absolute pinnacle of ambassadors for IHG. Worth going to Montreal just to see them :) Read less

The staff here is great, front desk and concierge were outstanding. It is a shame I encountered so many maintenance issues. I had to change rooms due to the amount of mold in the shower, this was unpleasant and a hassle to change rooms, not to mention the fridge was full of old food from a previous guest. The room I changed to has issue with the light in the closet turning off arbitrarily, doors hinges so loud they sounded like a cat in heat, peeling wallpaper and paint. This was the first Intercontinental where I experienced this, they are usually on point. I believe this property is due for remodeling later in the year. I had family staying at the Westin next door and their stay was problem free, I would opt to stay at the Westin next time. Read less

Old rooms in need of refurbishment ! Dirty curtains ! Room very dark and dingy ! Door handle hanging off ! Wished I’d have believed the reviews . Only thing the bed was very clean or else I wouldn’t have stayed there .!!! I did report the issues but to be honest all the rooms need updating not just mending the odd problem.

We had a great stay at the Intercontinental, located in beautiful Old Montreal. Our check in was quick, and the rooms are clean, luxurious and very quiet. The bathroom is quite large, with a great shower and huge fluffy towels (although we would have appreciated to have extra towels). Parking in the connected underground garage is not too pricey ($25) for a big city, although you have to drive down 9 floors to reach the hotel parking level. Breakfast was pretty good but we have had better in major hotels across Canada. Overall, the Hotel Intercontinental is very good value for the money. Read less
