Fairmont Royal York

Toronto, Canada

The hotel

One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, Fairmont Royal York was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 and has since welcomed dignitaries and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the hotel is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building and offers a wealth of amenities to keep you busy in-between sightseeing. The fitness centre is almost a world of its own with lap pool, children’s wading pool, steam rooms, saunas and a state-of-the-art gym. Two levels of shops are enough to satisfy the most ardent of shoppers with more shops located directly underneath the hotel in the PATH complex. Several exceptional restaurants cater to every kind of culinary desire. For mouth-watering steaks, look no further than Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and for the best martinis in town, head to the Library Bar with its rich furnishings and elegant atmosphere. Not to be missed is the afternoon tea and Rooftop Garden Tour, held every Saturday and Sunday.

The hotel is so beautiful. Fairmont Gold is the best among all fairmonts. Amazing services and very convenient. Good Food and nice Toronto DT view. Gold floor is a good choice for both bussiness and leisure. Work from hotel instead of work from home.

Our weekend away at the Fairmont Royal York was a lovely experience. Prior to the beginning of our stay, we contacted the hotel because we had a few questions and requests. Rebecca at the Fairmont Royal York went above and beyond for us. She answered all of our questions thoroughly, went over and above to accommodate us, and ensured that we would have a fantastic stay. Furthermore, we had lovely handwritten cards and treats awaiting us in our rooms. We ordered room service twice and the food was delicious (we also went to Clockwork Terrace and the food was delicious there too). We had such a great time that we have already booked another stay at the Fairmont Royal York this coming weekend. We are really looking forward to the welcoming and comforting nature of the Fairmont Royal York. This is the only hotel we stay at when we come to Toronto. Fairmont Royal York has extremely high standards and treats its guests incredibly. Read less

The staff was great and did everything they could in every instance. Covid measures were well done. The hotel itself... I'm surprised that this is the current situation at a Fairmont hotel. The staff was great and did everything they could in every instance. Covid measures were well done. The hotel itself... I'm surprised that this is the current situation at a Fairmont hotel. Maybe the Royal York is not that important to them anymore, but it really felt like just anywhere, and I expected it to feel special. I was only in Toronto for a few days and by myself, so I just had a standard Queen room, and it could have been in any hotel anywhere in the world. The view was of concrete, the room furniture was very basic, the desk and chair were kind of uncomfortable, the bathroom was fine (no robe -- is that a covid thing?), it was all perfectly functional. The room service menu was fine and also functional. I don't know why I would pay the extra money to stay at a place like the Royal York if the room and services just kind of feel like a shrug. At least there were peanut m&ms. I have stayed at the Royal York in the past, in 2015 and prior, before Accor was involved, and every element felt impressive and exciting, I'm sure the rooms were better value, and the pre-Accor loyalty program was great even if you weren't a high volume traveller. It's nice to be able to walk off the Via train and into your hotel but that's not enough to make a difference. I'll be staying at other hotels in Toronto in the future. Read less

The staff at the was very friendly and helped me surprise my girlfriend with a weekend to remember. We had an amazing time and can't wait for our next visit. Our one bedroom king suite was huge. The decor in this building is like a time capsule.
