Fairmont Royal York

Toronto, Canada

The hotel

One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, Fairmont Royal York was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 and has since welcomed dignitaries and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the hotel is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building and offers a wealth of amenities to keep you busy in-between sightseeing. The fitness centre is almost a world of its own with lap pool, children’s wading pool, steam rooms, saunas and a state-of-the-art gym. Two levels of shops are enough to satisfy the most ardent of shoppers with more shops located directly underneath the hotel in the PATH complex. Several exceptional restaurants cater to every kind of culinary desire. For mouth-watering steaks, look no further than Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and for the best martinis in town, head to the Library Bar with its rich furnishings and elegant atmosphere. Not to be missed is the afternoon tea and Rooftop Garden Tour, held every Saturday and Sunday.

Best hotel. Classy, singer in the restaurant whose voice pervades all parts of the hotel lobby. Food outstanding. Room comfortable, clean, great service in safe manner. Attentiveness of the hotel outstanding. I would recommend this above all in the downtown of Toronto. Tradition and comfort in the heart of Toronto, priceless.

From begin to end my newly wedded wife and I were treated like royalty. Fred the doorman who was celebrating his 70 birthday and almost 40 years of service with the Royal York made us feel as if we were old friends. The management met or exceeded our every special request and was nonstop with upgrades, lavishing us with so many unexpected perks that it was almost embarrassing (almost). Zak our server at Reign was a fountain of information and struck the perfect balance between attentive and giving us the privacy we desired. We are locals and have always heard that the Royal York still treated all of its guests in this way while other high end hotels have long forgotten how but now that we have experienced this for ourselves we won’t consider another place when staying in the core. We stayed for one night to celebrate a birthday. We were greeted be valet parking (59$). As an All ACCOR member we zoomed in our dedicated Gold 18th floor elevator for a speedy check-in. We were appointed room suite 17105. And 4 complimentary drinks voucher each (50$ max.), thank you Rebecca. Our luggage arrived soon after. The suite had a separate living room\bedroom. The black/white/gray timeless theme was gorgeous and carried from the marble entrance and bathroom to the black lacquered doors with white trimmings to the tumbling blocks wallpaper. Midas touch of gold both classic and elegant. Also modernized with big screen TVs in each room with plenty of plugs for all devices. The little details that most travellers might not notice or care; The RYH crest in the bedspread and cups. Each light button clearly identifying which light you turned on eliminating the guess work. The movement sensitive light in bathroom so you don’t have to light the switch at night when entering. The slow dimming lights when turning off. The high end bathroom fixtures and last but not least the aromatherapy shower capsules that you put in before showering; cinnamon scent or bedtime smell make for a sensory shower experience. For our drinks, we had one at the outside Clocktower terrasse, one inside and one at the Reign bar. All cocktails were very good. Supper was exquisite with prime rib beef au jus and perfectly cooked halibut au beurre blanc. Surprise bday dessert molten chocolate cake that was light on the outside and melted warm chocolate on the inside thank you Ava. In pandemic times, all personnel wear masks. Patrons must wear masks at all times. They will take your temperature on your wrist every time you enter the property. We felt as safe humanly possible under these unreal circumstances. The only thing that I could find, even so insignificant, is the tv sound volume could not be lowered down passed a certain point and was still too loud. Again, first world problem, I know. RYH is celebrating its 90 years anniversary and went under extensive rejuvenating renovations. We were here probably 20 years ago and you don’t look a day over 40! Read less

I had contacted the hotel to request a mini fridge and microwave in the room and it both were in the room when we got there. I want to acknowledge a few of the staff who did their best to make our stay extra special: Shamini, Dino, and Kavin. Your service was very much appreciated. I also want to mention that we felt very safe while staying at the hotel. They are implementing various cleaning and safety measures, which made us comfortable staying here and that was a priority to us. Thanks for a memorable stay! Read less

The Fairmont is always a lovely place to stay, with amazing service. The staff is always so friendly and welcoming. Our only issue was with the elevators, they didn't seem to be operating well during the weekend we stayed. Two were out of order, another wouldn't open but would beep constantly when it arrived on a floor, and our keycards didn't work properly when trying to use them to get to our floor and to the lounge. Aside from that it was a perfect stay! Read less
