Fairmont Royal York

Toronto, Canada

The hotel

One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, Fairmont Royal York was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 and has since welcomed dignitaries and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the hotel is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building and offers a wealth of amenities to keep you busy in-between sightseeing. The fitness centre is almost a world of its own with lap pool, children’s wading pool, steam rooms, saunas and a state-of-the-art gym. Two levels of shops are enough to satisfy the most ardent of shoppers with more shops located directly underneath the hotel in the PATH complex. Several exceptional restaurants cater to every kind of culinary desire. For mouth-watering steaks, look no further than Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and for the best martinis in town, head to the Library Bar with its rich furnishings and elegant atmosphere. Not to be missed is the afternoon tea and Rooftop Garden Tour, held every Saturday and Sunday.

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Amazing room, very disappointed in the food.

The room was absolutely lovely! The food was a big disappointment. We ordered some appetizers upon arrival and the wing sauce tasted like vinegar. The pizza was okay but wasn't impressed at all, very doughy. We decided not to order dinner as we didn't have confidence in the menu. In the morning we did order breakfast that cost over $100. A couple of issues. Bed squeaked and shower had some issues. All in all a nice hotel and a good stay. Great location! We were walking distance to the water, the hall of fame, sky dome, restaurants, and could jump the train across the street. The trains went to Niagara Falls which we did a day trip and to the airport. The train schedule took us a… Read more

I read great reviews about this hotel so I decided to book it. I'm glad I did. From beginning to end the staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, very close to the CN tower and other attractions. There was so much nice restaurants and places we could eat at around the area since the new restrictions were in place, we couldn't eat at the hotel's on site restaurant or bar but that was okay since we were still able to order food around the area or experience in room dining which was quick and easy. The hotels food was amazing with different items you can choose from. Our room was exactly like it was shown on the website and the bed and pillows was clean and comfortable to sleep on. My fiancé says his stay was a 10/10 and that we will be back to explore more of the amenities that the hotel has to offer once it's safe to do so. Read less

When you walk off the street and into the lobby it’s so inviting to see an open space bar filled with such modern, comfy chairs and couches. This bar was full and bustling with people so we had to go for a drink in the Piano bar. Both bars are gorgeously decorated, and we enjoyed a Belgium beer. For dinner we went to Reign restaurant just behind the lobby. Again, the layout and furnishings were gorgeous complete with a fireplace which was centred in the middle. We enjoyed a charcuterie platter and oysters for an appetizer and tenderloin and halibut for our main. The kids enjoyed the homemade chicken fingers and fries. Breakfast was also very good quality. Good variety of choices on the menus. Our suite had two bedrooms and a living room area, complete with 2 fully stocked minibars. The next day the kids enjoyed the swimming pool and the change rooms and gym were impeccably clean. We will return! Read less

Although this hotel has historical charm, it is constantly remodeled to provide the latest in amenities. Check in/check out is very easy with very friendly staff manning the front desk. All staff we encountered were very friendly and polite. Our room was very nice even though it was not expensive. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and the bathroom was clean and lovely. Due to Covid restrictions we had to order room service which was delivered in a timely fashion and very delicious. Definitely recommend this hotel. Read less
