The hotel

One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, Fairmont Royal York was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 and has since welcomed dignitaries and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the hotel is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building and offers a wealth of amenities to keep you busy in-between sightseeing. The fitness centre is almost a world of its own with lap pool, children’s wading pool, steam rooms, saunas and a state-of-the-art gym. Two levels of shops are enough to satisfy the most ardent of shoppers with more shops located directly underneath the hotel in the PATH complex. Several exceptional restaurants cater to every kind of culinary desire. For mouth-watering steaks, look no further than Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and for the best martinis in town, head to the Library Bar with its rich furnishings and elegant atmosphere. Not to be missed is the afternoon tea and Rooftop Garden Tour, held every Saturday and Sunday.

We always stay at the Fairmont Royal York when we go to Toronto. Since we take the train and it's right across the street and it's so beautiful. The staff is wonderful and the restaurants are fantastic. Also it's a short walk to the the Rogers Centre and all the downtown spots. Love love this place.

From check-in to check-out we only encountered friendly, helpful staff. Our room (Signature Room) was so lovely. Beautiful decor, classic. Bathroom was gorgeous. The room was done nicely. A hand held shower option would have been perfect. They always treat you well and make any request feel natural. Thank you for making the welcome drink feel welcoming. We always feel special when we stay which keeps us coming back

A very classic business hotel right across the train station with all the hustle and bustle of the location. Stayed for nearly a week for work and it was a zoo - everything was crowded but even considering that, this hotel is built to handle it. Lots of professionalism from the staff in every department. The rooms are fine - I didn't spend much time in time but they had everything you needed. Water pressure in the shower was a bit too low for my liking. You can definitely hear your neighbors through the walls but I was exhausted in the evenings that it didn't bother me. There are just enough elevators to handle the crowds but it's just on the border of an annoying wait. The fitness center was too small and didn't have much equipment for a hotel of this stature - I could never get on a treadmill in any of the 3-4 mornings that I tried so I just walked more for my meetings (never taking a taxi/Uber). My biggest gripe was the slow wifi - first you had to pay for it (or thought you did until they zero'd it out at checkout) but I should've picked the premium wifi as the basic one is so slow you really can't watch videos on it. This was shocking given I saw the router/access point in my room so it must have been a revenue maximization thing. The bars were happening every evening (and looked fun). I enjoyed the REIGN breakfast spot in the mornings for coffee (service was very good there, too). Read less

Great 3 day stay! I would say that 98% of the staff across the board was amazing! From front desk to housekeeping to the restaurant and servers, bartenders etc… everyone was super nice and helpful. The food was pretty great too! My only negative feedback are the walls are super thin so if noises bother you bring ear plugs. And the sink in my room was full of powdered makeup when I checked in. I always have cleaning wipes so I just fixed that myself but shouldn’t have had to. Other than that, it’s a beautiful building and in a prime location located directly across union station and a 10 minutes walk to the waterfront. Lots of shopping, restaurants and bars nearby.
