The Westin Harbour Castle

Toronto, Canada

The hotel

A luxurious, landmark waterfront hotel, Westin ensures your every comfort is met at the Harbour Castle. Beautifully appointed guest rooms with Westin’s signature Heavenly Bed and Bath offer a welcome retreat at the end of a busy day spent sightseeing. There’s also a heated indoor swimming pool in which to wallow and the WESTIN Workout Gym, overlooking the picturesque Toronto Islands — enough to inspire anyone to take to the treadmill! Afterwards, recline in the whirlpool or, if you’ve still energy to spare, perhaps a game of tennis or squash may tempt you. There are plenty of restaurants close by but highly recommended are both the hotel’s eateries. The Mizzen serves exquisite à la carte dishes alongside a very tempting buffet. Our SuperFoods menu features revitalizing dishes made from healthy ingredients rich in nutrients, antioxidants and delicious taste so you can feel energized and at your best all day. On the 38th floor, with panoramic views of the city and the lake, is Toula Restaurant and Bar, one of North America’s premier culinary destinations. Sit back and admire the views as you feast on gourmet Italian cuisine and fine wine.

Every time we travel we always choose Marriott no matter the brand. With the merging of the brands we expanded our list of hotels we visit, and having stayed at The Ritz Carlton Hotels, JW Marriott and Marriott Marquis, we expected the Westin to be at a similar level. Though the rooms were very pleasing, and the views to die for (Lake Ontario), the level of customer service was not even close to what was expected. The hotel employees were okay, but our worst experience was at Toula, the restaurant on the 38th floor- not sure if they are Westin employees, or independent employees, but they need to review their customer service skills. At $50+ per plate, they need to provide much higher quality service than you would get at Tim Horton’s, Timmies has actually much better service than Toula. Aside from that, location was great, pool area was ok, not sold on that little pool for such a big property. Valet parking was a bit slow, but understandable. We didn’t appreciate how our American flag magnet went “missing” from our car after we left it in valet- we’d driven 1,300 miles and nothing had happened to it, until valet took our car. If you’re used to the pampering you get at a Ritz Carlton, JW Marriott, or Marriott Marquis, this is not the hotel to expect that from Read less

I stayed on business during Caribana so the hotel was extremely busy and appeared to be almost at capacity. Despite this, the staff were all very friendly and helpful and there was no delay on the elevators or valet. (It is pricey to park, $50/night) but there is a cheaper outdoor lot right next door that does fill up quickly if you are lucky enough to get a spot. The rooms also have the Westin Heavenly Beds so you will have an incredible sleep! The hotel is located right next to the Island Ferry Docks and within walking distance to many great downtown restaurants and activities. They also have a breakfast buffet with a lot of choices, including an omelette station. Read less

We booked this hotel because of the free anniversary night for being Amex card holder. The level of service we got was great considering we had some issues. We will stay again because of the service even though we ran into some problems.

Had a fridge in the room. Great service when I checked in. I asked questions via the Bonvoy app Chat on my way to the hotel, the manager was quick to reply. (And switched my room/bed option, yay!) The Westin Harbour Castle being on the harbour is a bit of a walk to the downtown area, but worth the walk. There was no menu in the room, so I assumed there was no room service (I just looked, the website says there is). I went to the Mizzen Restaurant, it is a lobby restaurant so there is quite a bit of activity, which was enjoyable for me eating by myself. Food and service were enjoyable. I took the Westin up on an offer to get additional points for less room cleaning, very happy to get extra points! Read less

I am writing this review at 2 AM on the night of my stay here. I’ve been up all night and don’t expect to be getting any sleep tonight. When I first checked in I was given a room immediately next to the AC unit for the building (I could see it out my window). I asked to be moved due to the constant very loud hum. I was relocated to a room nowhere near the AC unit with even worse noises; there was an on-off ringing noise the entire time I was in there. I figured I was close to a major pipe that caused the ringing whenever someone showered, so finally at about 1:30 AM I asked to be moved again. The ringing noise was significantly worse in the new room. At this point I’ve asked for earplugs but mostly given up on the idea of getting any sleep tonight. Unless you sleep like a rock, I would hesitate booking a stay here. Read less
