Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

Vancouver, Canada

The hotel

A veritable castle in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is an impeccable symbol of indulgence and pedigree. Offering the luxury and services of a world-class hotel, all guest rooms are beautifully furnished with every attention to detail observed. Facilities include a state-of-the-art health club, accessible 24-hours a day, with indoor heated swimming pool and saunas. Pilates and Yoga classes are available at the Sitka Studios or treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering at the Absolute Spa. There’s also some prime shopping in the lobby with designers stores selling plenty to tempt you! Although you’re close to plenty of restaurants and bars in the downtown area, the Fairmont’s very own Notch8 Restaurant & Bar is the ideal place to relax and watch the world pass by. Named after a train’s top speed, achieved only by the most skilled conductors, the restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific railway. A traditional afternoon tea is also served here daily — for a special occasion, add a glass of champagne or, if the kids want to tag along, childish delights include Bubblegum Tea, fresh strawberries and cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

Unfortunately the rooms are not up to par as there is a lot of noise from the hallway, all doors slam shut (no soft close), large gap at bottom of door floods the room with light at night, HVAC is set to heat this time of year and the room was uncomfortably warm even with the system set to off and the window open. There was a tray of dishes left in the hall for 2 days. Sewage smell in the bathroom. Wifi disconnects constantly. Front Desk staff during day shift are excellent but second shift is very unfriendly. There are at least 4 hotels within one block of the Fairmont so unless this prices in significantly lower, I suggest looking elsewhere. Read less

A lovely historic hotel, it just celebrated 80 years. The room was a bit small with only a small window so it was a bit dark and not much of a view. Bed was a bit hard and lumpy. We were booked here as part of our Scenic tour of Canada but I think it would have been better to stay at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel as we spent quite a bit of time walking to the Waterfront area to see Canada Place, the Flyover Canada, Vancouver Lookout and Gas Town. One note: we were told after we had checked in by fellow guests that if you touch anything in the mini bar you will be charged for it automatically on the hotel computer as it has sensors in it. I did not believe them at first but when we checked at the front desk we were told that they assume you have consumed anything you have touched. We had put our own water bottles in the mini bar and explained this to them so they made a note not to charge us. Not only were we not told by staff when we checked in I find this a very unfriendly practice to charge you just for touching anything in the fridge. I've never come across it before. Read less
