Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

Vancouver, Canada

The hotel

A veritable castle in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is an impeccable symbol of indulgence and pedigree. Offering the luxury and services of a world-class hotel, all guest rooms are beautifully furnished with every attention to detail observed. Facilities include a state-of-the-art health club, accessible 24-hours a day, with indoor heated swimming pool and saunas. Pilates and Yoga classes are available at the Sitka Studios or treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering at the Absolute Spa. There’s also some prime shopping in the lobby with designers stores selling plenty to tempt you! Although you’re close to plenty of restaurants and bars in the downtown area, the Fairmont’s very own Notch8 Restaurant & Bar is the ideal place to relax and watch the world pass by. Named after a train’s top speed, achieved only by the most skilled conductors, the restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific railway. A traditional afternoon tea is also served here daily — for a special occasion, add a glass of champagne or, if the kids want to tag along, childish delights include Bubblegum Tea, fresh strawberries and cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

It's centrally located in the core of downtown Vancouver, right next to the Vancouver Art Gallery. The service was excellent from efficient check-in and check-out. The room retained much of the old fashioned charm with ornate furniture and furnishings. Bed was extremely comfortable and I'm super picky with beds normally. Room had a hidden Keurig coffee machine, free wifi, wide screen tv, lovely marble-tiled bathroom with luxury toiletries. Heard the pool was great but it was closed for chemical cleaning the weekend we were there. They offered another hotel pool we could use but we didn't go. Loved that they had an adorable, calm concierge dog, which after asking the front desk, is around some days depending on when the dog owner is working. Highly recommended and would love to return. I'll start with the not so good and end on a high note. The biggest disappointment was the ground floor level of the hotel. The ambience of the ground floor is more like being in a hotel located in a shopping mall rather than a first class hotel experience. There is no grand living room/lobby for hotel guests to gather or relax in. All seating areas on the ground floor are in hallways leading to the luxury label stores that occupy the window areas facing the streets or overlooking the motor court entrance at the back of the hotel. Even the good sized restaurant and bar feel more like areas designed for the general public than areas devoted to the hotel guests. Another disappointment is that the whirlpool spa in the glass enclosed pool area was removed during the latest renovations. On the upside, the deluxe king room we were given in the 6th floor was spacious and nicely decorated in a traditional style. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom, which had a walk in shower but no tub, was on the small side, but did feel upscale, and there was a walk in closet area in the vestibule. There were nice touches like a nightlight in the bathroom and a motion sensor light in the closet. There were tea and coffee making facilities in a cabinet that also contained liquor and soda stocked in a small refrigerator that had no room in it to place any items brought by guests. The reception personnel we encountered were gracious and accommodating. I probably would not stay at this hotel again because of my dislike of the ground floor' public areas. Read less
