The hotel

A veritable castle in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is an impeccable symbol of indulgence and pedigree. Offering the luxury and services of a world-class hotel, all guest rooms are beautifully furnished with every attention to detail observed. Facilities include a state-of-the-art health club, accessible 24-hours a day, with indoor heated swimming pool and saunas. Pilates and Yoga classes are available at the Sitka Studios or treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering at the Absolute Spa. There’s also some prime shopping in the lobby with designers stores selling plenty to tempt you! Although you’re close to plenty of restaurants and bars in the downtown area, the Fairmont’s very own Notch8 Restaurant & Bar is the ideal place to relax and watch the world pass by. Named after a train’s top speed, achieved only by the most skilled conductors, the restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific railway. A traditional afternoon tea is also served here daily — for a special occasion, add a glass of champagne or, if the kids want to tag along, childish delights include Bubblegum Tea, fresh strawberries and cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

I love this place. There is something to be said about old-world charm in the center of a bustling metropolis. The ambiance and envoirnment cannot be described, it needs to be experienced. We stayed in a Grand King room.. it was perfect (aside from the small bathroom). Gold level service is always on par. We will return.

Having never stayed at a Fairmont and knowing their reputation, I was really looking forward to this. The hotel's location in a posh area added to the ambiance of the grand dame. I am writing this from the point of view of a mystery shopper because that's what I do. Staff was extremely friendly, helpful and pleasant. The guest room was BEAUTIFUL, had plenty of charging plugs, and very comfortable beds and pillows. The lighted makeup mirror was a plus, except that it was somehow broken and did not stay up, and the minibar was sensored so you couldn't even look or you'd be charged. However, the bathroom had no fan, noise from adjacent rooms and hallways was very easily overheard, and the thermostat did not work because "the hotel was out of season, so there's no heat or A/C." While the room was comfortably appointed, there were cleanliness and condition issues: heavy dust layers on baseboards especially near the entry door; a large wet spot and stain on the carpet in front of the minibar (still wet, probably due to unrepaired fridge leak); there was a rip in the carpet at/under the entry door. Beautiful grand hotel located in a central area for dining, sightseeing, shopping plus local transportation. We found it very easy to navigate around the city mostly by foot. The entire concierge staff plus their 2 furry ambassadors were 5 star. Thanks to them we were able to find entertainment and sightseeing even with the rainy weather. We had a corner room 565 which at first I was skeptical because the bathroom was tiny with very little counter space but all in all the room and amenities were comfortable. We did find the room to be a bit warm so at times we did open the windows. I found this a luxury since most hotels very seldom have windows that can be open. Our maid service was excellent and we did tip daily to show our appreciation. We found Notch 8 enjoyable for menu service for breakfast but there’s a lot of places close walking distance to eat. I found the morning buffet outrageously price but that’s my opinion. We were very pleased with everything the hotel and staff had to offer and would definitely return when visiting Vancouver. The location is great, lobby and shops are underwhelming. The Pool should be closed, it’s beyond disgusting! Pretty standard room with comfort bed. The bathroom is very small which maybe why housekeeping hasn’t noticed what’s on the inside of the door. I was really looking forward to staying at this hotel and was very disappointed.
