Fairmont Hotel Vancouver

Vancouver, Canada

The hotel

A veritable castle in the heart of the city, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is an impeccable symbol of indulgence and pedigree. Offering the luxury and services of a world-class hotel, all guest rooms are beautifully furnished with every attention to detail observed. Facilities include a state-of-the-art health club, accessible 24-hours a day, with indoor heated swimming pool and saunas. Pilates and Yoga classes are available at the Sitka Studios or treat yourself to some well-deserved pampering at the Absolute Spa. There’s also some prime shopping in the lobby with designers stores selling plenty to tempt you! Although you’re close to plenty of restaurants and bars in the downtown area, the Fairmont’s very own Notch8 Restaurant & Bar is the ideal place to relax and watch the world pass by. Named after a train’s top speed, achieved only by the most skilled conductors, the restaurant pays homage to the hotel’s storied history and legacy as a luxury hotel along the Canadian Pacific railway. A traditional afternoon tea is also served here daily — for a special occasion, add a glass of champagne or, if the kids want to tag along, childish delights include Bubblegum Tea, fresh strawberries and cream and a giant chocolate chip cookie!

We had a gorgeous room with a king and a hide-a-bed. Our son's suite was right next door. It was a perfect location for grandparents, parents and kids. The kids loved the pool. The hotel is in excellent condition and the service was impeccable, as always. Unfortunately, the wheelchair accessible room is not usable for a full-time wheelchair user unless they have a companion. Unfortunately, the wheelchair accessible room is not usable for a full-time wheelchair user unless they have a companion. The toilet is too low for transfer to a standard height chair, the bed is much too high, the mirror is above the guests head and the shower controls are at least six feet from the bench. As an exercise, perhaps a manager could ride a chair around the room and attempt these and other activities expected of a hotel room. Read less

I had such a great stay at hotel Vancouver. The staff and concierge were all warm and hospitable. Hotel lobby smells amazing and the rooms and toiletries were very luxurious. What I also appreciated was the location - it was PERFECT. Close to everything I needed. Would absolutely stay again!

Quick check-in, easy parking (no valet at this time, but easy to unload and then park your own car), nice room. Views from floors 5 up are great at any side of the hotel. We had a King Suite and enjoyed it as much as our previous King Executive Suite upgrade, to be honest! Just a few glitches to report: a. Room had a big areaof wet floor, due to condensation from the air conditioner vent above; a door-knob that fell off the doors between bedroom and living room; and, oddly, a sticker on the shower tile, presumably left by a young guest. These things all added up to a sense that maybe housekeeping isn't paying full attention (though to be fair, the only way to know a carpet is wet is to walk on it in socks/barefoot!) b. The menu at the onsite Notch 8 seems unnecessarily limited. We were disappointed in seeking a light late dinner to find just a few viable choices. WIth more guests now, surely the menu can include more options again? Room service breakfast also disappointed, with cold coffee and missing cream for that coffee, which had been ordered. And finally, room service trays (and guest garbage left in hallways) seemed to sit out in halls for a long time each day. Not pleasant to walk by again five or six hours later. Time to ramp up again, food service! Staff were, to a person, gracious as usual. The lobby being fully reopened (all doors) is great. For a Fairmont experience, it was as expected... just with a few loose screws here and there, maybe to be blamed on ramping back up again from COVID slowness. Overall, we highly recommend for posh service, rooms, and experience. Nothing smells as nice as a Fairmont hotel... and this one adds in a super convenient location to the mix! Read less

My husband and I have frequented Hotel Vancouver for the past decade. This is my first negative review on tripadvisor. We live in Vancouver and have enjoyed coming for special occasions and enjoying the amenities in the Fairmont Gold lounge. In the past, the level of service was excellent and we loved the old world charm of the hotel. The last time we stayed at this hotel was the summer before the COVID-19 pandemic with our two children- they were told by Yuki to pretend that the lounge was a library and that they had to make sure they were quiet. I would understand if my 1 and 3 year old children were making a fuss or causing a disturbance, but she told us this the moment we sat down at the lounge. I did not feel welcomed for an upgrade to Gold- an upgrade for which had paid a premium. I know that there definitely is stigma when traveling with young children, but my husband and I are quite strict about our children being respectful of their environment and shared space so that everyone can enjoy their experience to the fullest. Her comment made me feel guilty to dare to sit in the lounge with my young children. Fast forward present day as BC enters phase 3 of the pandemic. We decided to try our luck again as Hotel Vancouver has always been our happy place. When we called to inquire whether the Gold lounge was open again after being closed for most of Covid, a gentlemen named Bien (sp?) from the service desk responded that the lounge "should" open on July 15th. When I asked if he could elaborate since we were booking for July 17th, his tone was unfriendly to the point of condescension. He said if I'm booking for the 17th, and he just said that the gold lounge "should" open on the 15th, then it "should be available". My guess is they don't want to make any promises, but his response was ambiguous and I did not appreciate the attitude when I had tried to ask if he could provide a more definitive answer if my intentions were to enjoy the Gold lounge during my stay at Hotel Vancouver. I felt like my experiences were worth documenting as I believe most guests would find value in a hotel's level of service if they were to pay a premium to stay at an Accor hotel. Read less
