This is an amazing hotel in the perfect location but unfortunately it has issues. The design, quality and attention to detail is superb. The lobby is more like a nightclub than an entrance. It seems to be where all of the beautiful people from Vancouver go! This is not a criticism, just don’t stay here if you want to chill out. The hotel has a fashion theme and it’s great that the staff are all in different designer type outfits. The rooms have a wow factor with lots of gadgets and luxuries. The hotel is immaculate and the rooms are well serviced. If you want a cool hotel in a great location and you are willing to pay, this is the place for you. I think we paid around £900 per night so expectations were high. The down side is the service. If you don’t want to get frustrated keep away from the staff. Just about every member of the team is inept. They seem to be more bothered about being beautiful than serving their guests. We used the pool which was packed. The space is great however the staff don’t seem to be managing the bed availability. We found some space but others ended up sitting on the floor. When the hotel is full and the sun is shining this will always be a challenge, however the staff should be managing this more proactively. Many of the beds had towels on but were not being used. The staff should be in control of this so it is fair. There were plenty of staff however they didn’t seem to have any idea what they were supposed to be doing. Not their issue, it was a lack of management. I sat at the bar (as there was nowhere else to sit) and countless people came across to chase up their food. I ordered a cappuccino and was told it needed to come from the ground floor. The pool is on level 6. I’m guessing this is where the food comes from also. My cappuccino arrived after about half an hour in a small paper cup. It was cold and the froth had died. The next morning we decided to try breakfast in the botanist. Big mistake. A dreadful and expensive experience. We were told there was a 15 minute wait, which is ok. After about half an hour we chased up and apparently they had given our table to someone else. There were many tables uncleared yet there was a huge queue for sittings. ( my photograph shows a table which remained uncleared for all of the time we sat waiting and was still under when we left despite us seeing countless members of staff walking past and looking at it. At one point someone did remove 2 plates but that was it. We were shown to our table, in a beautiful room. Again there were lots of staff floating around not doing much, looking lost. Nun if these people clearly had no experience of serving tables. I suspect these people had come from retail backgrounds, impressed by the glamour of the environment. We went for the continental breakfast as we didn’t have the time to order a cooked breakfast considering our previous experience. The buffet area was tiny for the number of people there. There were bowls of fruit, small bowls of yoghurt and pastries. No cereal rather a tiny jam jar with yoghurt and cereal. Again style over substance. We mentioned our experience when we checked out and the receptionist took our details and did remove the cost of the breakfast and the cappuccino at the pool. They took our details but I’m pretty sure that will be the last we hear from them. We arrived at this hotel following two days on the Rocky Mountaineer which couldn’t be any more different. We had the best service ever. Fairmont must have spent hundreds of millions on this hotel. It is amazing, they have got the environment perfect. I can’t understand when you have invested so much why you wouldn’t invest the same in your staff. The culture comes from the top and these issues are not down to the staff. This could be one of the best hotels in Vancouver but it’s service let’s it down spectacularly. Taking into account what we paid I can only give the hotel 3 stars. It didn’t spoil our trip to Vancouver which is a fantastic city. Read less

This was our first trip to Vancouver. We chose Fairmont Pacific Rim because of its location to places we wanted to explore. The service and amenities here were much more than we expected. Of course we walked a lot as Vancouver is very walkable especially near the Harbor. But, to our surprise, we were provided transportation, drop off and pick up by way of a Fairmont driver in a 700-series BMWs! Unfortunately, what we did not know until we were back home was that they would have, again free of charge, provided us the use of an electric bicycle as well. Maybe these were for President Members only, which we are. We had dinner as well as breakfast at the Botanist restaurant inside the hotel and really enjoyed it. The staff was great and housekeeping was very attentive and kind, it was my birthday and housekeeping left little treats and a Fairmont stuffed bear for me on the bed. So kind. Read less
