Blue Waters Resort & Spa

Antigua, Caribbean

Virgin rating

The hotel

This is a truly superb recently refreshed hotel with elegant surroundings, outstanding service and an enviable location on two white sand beaches lapped by gentle aqua waves, epitomising the Caribbean fantasy. The 17 tropical acres of gardens are beautifully tended and each of the buildings is romantically draped with brightly coloured bougainvillea — just adding to the delightful ambience. There's plenty to do during the day and you'll no doubt be tempted on to the beach by one of a generous array of water sports. Table tennis is popular and there's an 18-hole golf course 5 minutes away. Wind down in the evening (if you haven't done so already!) with a delicious coconut crush — liberally splashed with local rum — while you watch pelicans dive and swoop for their meals. Your dinner can be taken at one of the hotel's gourmet restaurants, complimented with an excellent Claret from the wine list. An amazing holiday experience.

We had a great vacation experience at Blue Waters. Nicole, Kevin and every staff member were welcoming, friendly and attentive to our every need. Nicole especially took care of us from special alcohol requests, to cigars, to restaurant reservations, all with a genuine smile and that perfect British accent. We would also like to give a shout out to Owen, our boisterous and kind boat captain, who showed us the sites of the island while telling us about the history and people of Antigua. Arriving at a gorgeous, empty mile long beach to explore and play on was an incredible experience. This excursion was the highlight of our stay. The Cove 1 Penthouse suite was perfect for our needs and couldn't have been more beautiful especially at sunset. Restaurant fare was good but we missed the lobster (out of season). Our only issue with the whole experience was the spotty pool drink service and fairly weak pours of said drinks. But no biggy, our room stash took up the slack. Oh, and no Woodford Reserve, our favorite bourbon. But again, these are nits. We'll pack Woodford next time! All and all, an intimate, unhurried, incredible Caribbean resort experience that will not disappoint from the beginning to the end. Read less

It meant being on the beach by lunch time. Blue Waters went above and beyond to make our long weekend extra special. HUGE thanks to Nicole who personally coordinated lots of details and fun extras for us from taxi service and spa treatments to a lovely birthday cake for our friend. She truly made the experience like a 5 stars. Thanks Nicole! We loved the 3 bedroom Cove villa with semi private pool, too. All in all a great choice for a quick and easy beach getaway. We'll be back! Read less

It would have been 5 stars other than a couple of things lacking from a top end resort. Very little service around the pool so most people head to the bar themselves. It would have been 5 stars other than a couple of things lacking from a top end resort. Very little service around the pool so most people head to the bar themselves. The other nagging issue for most people I spoke to, the toilets are in the lobby so a bit of a walk if you need the toilet, then the all inclusive doesn't start till 11am, so your very restricted for drinks, even soft drinks unless you want to walk back to breakfast. I did try on one occasion to order food at the sun loungers, they have menus advertised that you can to be told by a gentleman that I had to go to the bar to do this, seems a little odd calling it sun lounger menu if you have yo go up and order it. They were the negative sides to the resort which for me shouldn't have any when you pay premium prices. The positives, most of the staff are so friendly and will do anything for you. Especially Tramaine my daughter loved her. The food is fantastic although a little to similar in each restaurant but the standard is excellent so you can't fault it. Drinks from all the bars are excellent. As for rooms, if you want your own shared Pool then book a Cove suite, ask for Villa 1 or 2 if you love a sea view. If you prefer to be close to everything them just go for a beach front room, these aren't really beach front, I personally would change the name, they are just front of the accommodation and close to everything, none of the rooms are actually beach front. We have had a fantastic trip, very boutique feeling and would recommend giving it a try Read less
