Galley Bay Resort & Spa

Antigua, Caribbean

The hotel

Set on one of Antigua's many beautiful beaches, this exclusive adults-only hideaway offers guests a fabulous combination of superior service, Caribbean cuisine and rustic luxury in a very natural setting. Much of the architecture here is inspired by the French artist Gauguin. The charming, refurbished individual suites have their own splash pool and are surrounded by lush gardens and views of the lagoon. There are three excellent open-air restaurants, all beachfront, offering intimate, candlelit dining of excellent quality. Ismay's Restaurant offers a higher quality dining experience to be shared for that special occasion, whilst the more laid-back Barefoot Grill is a great place to enjoy a tasty quesadilla made with resort grown produce. At sunset, hors d'oeuvres are served at the bar which overlooks the sea from under its Tahitian-style roof. There are activities such as non-motorised water sports and a recently expanded gym, but reclining with a novel on the beachfront deck from the library is equally as popular.

The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and with a quick call to reception, a golf buggy will come to take you to any of the resorts 5 eating spots. You can’t help but relax and the setting and beach are stunning. The only reasons I’m not giving a five here are that our premium apartment looked a little like it had seen better days, a creme brûlée we were served one night was scrambled egg with a stiff toffee layer and I can’t forgive a butchered creme brûlée (though generally the food is very good don’t get me wrong) and occasionally you do feel a bit like you’re crammed in on a busy resort rather than island paradise. Still, highly recommended and thanks for an incredible stay. Read less

We visited Galley Bay Resort in April and this has to be one of the most beautiful places I have been too. I loved our room on the top floor. This whole resort is beach front and beautiful! Attention has been paid to every detail, especially the food choices. They had an organic farm on site, where they have all kinds of vegetables and fruits growing. This is one place where there was no pizza or pasta on the menu! Chef, Andrew Baxter created amazing menu choices, and catered to every picky eater! We are both vegetarians and we loved and looked forward to every meal. I loved their lemon meringue pie at lunch for dessert. The surroundings are perfect, the restaurants right by the beach - intimate and cottage like. I loved that they had a special studio for Yoga on the beach- we tried restorative and regular yoga - thank you McKenzie! They had a turtle sanctuary as well. The rooms were spacious, the bathrooms were huge! I loved this place because every detail was perfect, you would see that the owner really put his heart to creating this place for people who want to enjoy their holiday, from the rooms, to the settings and especially the food. They had a really nice cafe, attached to a store and mini library, and a tasting bar, again nestled in lots of green tropical space. I hope to go back here some day.. i loved every minute of my stay! There was a beautiful trail for biking or running on the property as well around the lagoon which was nice. Thank you! Read less

We found Galley Bay after my husband won a vacation coupon at a golf tournament. Elite Island Resorts was the coupon company and they had a handful of resorts under their umbrella. They were helpful when we called with questions--and recommended Galley Bay for us since it was going to be our honeymoon and we wanted an adults only resort. Once we researched Antigua and Galley Bay, we decided it had everything we were looking for for our honeymoon. It ended up checking all the boxes, and THEN some. It was way better than any other all-inclusive resorts we've stayed at. Some of the reasons being: -Room right on the beach (even had our own lounge chairs under a tiki umbrella) -A/C to keep us cool for sleeping (hotel room was cool and comfortable) -Delicious Food, every meal being a sit down (NOT buffet) -Strong drinks (even the mixed drinks and frozen drinks!) -Fast, pleasant, attentive service (we felt like all the staff were our friends, we loved chatting with them and they also seemed happy that we were there! Both Sandy's, Peter, Iba!) -Nice spa for a couples massage (they even had happy hour prices!) -Live music/night scene (awesome bands on property every night in an open air setting, teepee bar was like our 'cheers', and there was the Rum Shack too!) -Pool area had call buttons for drink deliveries -Excursions were super easy to coordinate with Iba -Beautiful landscaping and nicely kept grounds -Boutique feeling resort versus the typical all-inclusive There were a handful of people that were repeat guests and told us they had been coming to Galley Bay for years. We're so happy to have stumbled upon this place! I don't typically travel back to the same place twice, but I will absolutely come back to this resort and be part of the Galley Bay family for years to come. Read less

First visit to Galley Bay for us although many other visitors were repeat guests and you can understand this once you’ve been. The location right on the beach overlooking the Caribbean made this resort for us. We had a ground floor premier beachfront apartment which was ideal for us. The place is large so you always had a choice of sun loungers whether on the beach or at the pool. Food and drinks service was in keeping with the all inclusive vibe. Live nightly entertainment was better than we were expecting as other reviews had said that the resort was not that lively but it got everyone together at the Seagrape bar after dinner. Most people like us were celebrating something like anniversary or on honeymoon etc so this created a good atmosphere amongst guests. Would return and so would recommend to family and friends.
