Galley Bay Resort & Spa

Antigua, Caribbean

The hotel

Set on one of Antigua's many beautiful beaches, this exclusive adults-only hideaway offers guests a fabulous combination of superior service, Caribbean cuisine and rustic luxury in a very natural setting. Much of the architecture here is inspired by the French artist Gauguin. The charming, refurbished individual suites have their own splash pool and are surrounded by lush gardens and views of the lagoon. There is a peaceful, natural lagoon which is host to rare birds, pelicans and herons. There are three excellent open-air restaurants, all beachfront, offering intimate, candlelit dining of excellent quality. Ismay's Restaurant, offers a higher quality dining experience to be shared for that special occasion, whilst the more laid-back Barefoot Grill is a great place to enjoy a tasty quesadilla made with resort grown produce. At sunset, hors d'oeuvres are served at the bar, which overlooks the sea from under its Tahitian-style roof. There are activities such as fishing on the lagoon, non-motorised water sports and a recently expanded gym, but reclining with a novel on the beachfront deck from the library is equally as popular.

This has to be one of the nicest places we have ever stayed ! Our Room was # 2 and it was a Perfect choice for a beach vacation plus being centrally located to everything at the resort. The resort was at capacity, yet there was never a crowded feeling and a lot of pool chairs were available every time I looked. There were also what seemed only a few scattered few people at the beach daily. There are No towel games in Antigua ! The breakfasts & dinners at The Sea Grape as well as lunch at the Barefoot Grill, were all good. On Thursdays they have The Caribbean BBQ. Without a doubt my favorites were the pumpkin soup, roasted pork, & Grilled Fish. However, everything was good that night. Also the House Cabernet Sauvignon here is Nice. During our 9 day stay the weather was good and The Caribbean water was a beautiful turquoise just like the Turk & Caicos. We were able to swim in the Caribbean daily. The entire staff was wonderful and went above and beyond to get my wife in touch with a doctor and get her some muscle relaxers for a pulled back muscle. The Galley Bay Staff is Simply All Very Nice ! We also did the Captain Sean 10-2 Tour and enjoyed ourselves. You are able to see several of the neighboring islands, while enjoying the coast of Antigua. The weather the day we went was just about perfect, coupled with a Beautiful Caribbean Sea. The age range here went from newlyweds to people in their 80’s and some with mobility issues. So it is a Very laid back, friendly, safe resort with everyone enjoying their vacation. I must say that as an old guy (68), who looks (< 58), I hope that my wife and I will be able to return a few times. The entire Galley Bay Experience is Super ! Read less

The staff at Galley Bay are outstanding. They go out of their way to please and accommodate and work incredibly hard. They were the difference between a very nice vacation and an outstanding vacation. Although tipping is not required, we believe in showing appreciation just as we would do so at home. We encourage others to do so as well.
