Galley Bay Resort & Spa

Antigua, Caribbean

The hotel

Set on one of Antigua's many beautiful beaches, this exclusive adults-only hideaway offers guests a fabulous combination of superior service, Caribbean cuisine and rustic luxury in a very natural setting. Much of the architecture here is inspired by the French artist Gauguin. The charming, refurbished individual suites have their own splash pool and are surrounded by lush gardens and views of the lagoon. There is a peaceful, natural lagoon which is host to rare birds, pelicans and herons. There are three excellent open-air restaurants, all beachfront, offering intimate, candlelit dining of excellent quality. Ismay's Restaurant, offers a higher quality dining experience to be shared for that special occasion, whilst the more laid-back Barefoot Grill is a great place to enjoy a tasty quesadilla made with resort grown produce. At sunset, hors d'oeuvres are served at the bar, which overlooks the sea from under its Tahitian-style roof. There are activities such as non-motorised water sports and a recently expanded gym, but reclining with a novel on the beachfront deck from the library is equally as popular.

We chose Galley Bay Resort because we had been to their sister property, Palm Island Resort, last September. Galley Bay did not disappoint! We loved the resort and the wonderful service we were given.

This is our second time at Galley Bay. We went there a few years ago and always wanted to go back as it had been a wonderful experience. Well the time was right and we did go back Galley Bay and it was just as we remembered. This place is beautiful with lush gardens everywhere. All the outdoor building and structures are so well kept it looks like a paradise. We were in a beach front unit and it was spacious, CLEAN and well decorated. The pool is amazing with well appointed covered lounges spaced nicely around the pool You don't get the feeling you are ever sitting on top of other guests. The beach is a sand bottom and crystal clear. About the food I can't say enough about the quality of meals we had. The same chef is still there and he is very present around the restaurants. Food choices ranged from simple to gourmet. I am a vegetarian as like our first visit there were plenty of vegetarian entrees for me to choose from. Drinks were fun and wait staff was always available to refresh you drink. The staff was always friendly and polite. I love this place and will go back as often as we can. If you want a relaxing caribbean vacation this is the place. Enjoy Read less

Came here on our honeymoon and can't recommend Galley Bay highly enough. From the moment you arrive at reception, you are taken care of and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The layout of the resort is great - you get a sense of privacy with the rooms as they are grouped in smaller blocks. The setting is stunning - the beach is perfect and the sea is crystal clear. Our room was a really good size and the balcony looking over the sea was a great place to relax after a day by the pool or on the beach. Food was excellent - highly recommend Ismay's and the setting of Gaugin is wonderful. It was the best holiday I have ever been on and a place that I hope my husband and I are lucky enough to visit more times in the future Read less

Of course, it’s a tropical island but don’t expect for the ants to pick you up and use you for food, jelly fish? I saw a couple, it’s by season so depends when you go, not a resort fault, food was good, a bit salty but tasty. I would have liked more shell fish. staff was fantastic, they really aim to please, the resort was almost full but you hardly see people. If you are looking for a lot of action, pick another place, this is a total luxurious relaxation experience. Room was well air conditioned, everything else was al fresco which might be an issue in the summer months. If you are a boozer, this well has top shelf, if you are a bad drunk do everyone a favor and stay away from this place, you'll stick out like a sore thumb. Read less

This year was the best because of the secluded property, fantastic food and friendly staff at Galley Bay Resort. Fredric and his staff exceeded expectations. Even with un cooperative weather we had plenty to do. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Additionally we felt very, very secure. We look forward to taking a group back very soon. Read less
