I'd visited Hodges Bay twice before - once in 2018 after it had just opened and another time in 2021. Both times the experience was wonderful - beautiful property with friendly staff and great service. However, when I returned for a third time most recently with my family, it was a huge disappointment. While the resort remains beautiful, when you take a closer look you'll notice that things are falling between the cracks and it's due for a serious update and maintenance. For one, the seat cushions were dirty to the point we did not feel comfortable sitting on them and we requested multiple times that they be cleaned or changed and that never happened. The carpet in the room was filthy and stained, the glass on our balcony was rusting and needed to be replaced and overall, the accommodations just did not feel clean. I started to feel uncomfortable to even put my baby down on the bed because it seemed that there was not a focus on cleanliness and I was skeptical if even the sheets were bing washed thoroughly. Most notably, we had to call daily to ask for our room to be cleaned and one day housekeeping did not even come until 7PM (after multiple calls to the front desk). In addition, the service and food have gone down significantly - waiters were rude, food was bland and presentation was flat out sloppy. It's hard to write this review because I used to think so highly of Hodges Bay and it is a resort that has a ton of potential. What I experienced was far below what I would expect of any 5 star hotel, and even a 4 star. I would not consider returning to Hodges Bay or recommending without a significant transformation in service and operations. Read less

We went in late February as a couple in our late 20s for 7 nights in a junior suite. We prefer to stay in our resort so spent the entire time there. We used most of the facilities except the “kids” pool. Positives: Contrary to some of the recent reviews, we felt the services and facilities were of a standard expected for this price point in the Caribbean. The resort is not spotless but we had no issues we wanted to raise during our time there. Breakfast is only a few metres from the beach front with a stunning view. We think we went at a fairly quiet time as we had no issues getting sun loungers anytime at the pool or beach, that was mentioned in previous reviews. There wasn’t a culture of reserving beds as there were lots of options. The bed was at least a large king and was very comfortable. We slept so well here. The fridge did make some white noise and you could hear the birds outside but we liked this. The food in the restaurants/bar is good and reasonably priced for a resort. We ate exclusively here as our preference but there are restaurants a short drive away. There is a good range of food between the bar, white sands, prickly pear and NaCl. The fine dining NaCl restaurant in particular was delicious and only open Thursday-Saturdays. Cocktails were reasonably priced and very good too. Most staff were really friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. In particular Craig who manages the beach bar was very attentive and personable. Guests can go to prickly pear via a short boat journey. There are also kayaks and paddle boards for guests to use, plus 2 pools and a hot tub. Negatives: As other reviews have mentioned, some of the staff were really quite rude. We found this in particular with the waitresses at breakfast or the white sands restaurants, if you asked for some water or milk for the coffee they seemed almost offended. This was never anyone in management or reception and some of the other waitresses were so lovely. The resort is not exclusive in that people not staying here can pay to use the facilities for the day. It wasn't an issue when we were there as it wasn't too busy but could imagine in peak season it might get a bit crowded. Overall we will definitely recommend to friends and family and would consider coming back ourselves. The location is beautiful. Read less

This review is based on the fact that this hotel is holding itself out to being a 5 star hotel. To be fair, the beach is beautiful BUT incredibly small. Maybe 12 lounge chaises on the beach and 20 by the pool. Good luck getting a beach towel. About 1/3 of the cushions were slashed and the wicker on the chairs was frayed. Maybe 12 lounge chaises on the beach and 20 by the pool. Good luck getting a beach towel. About 1/3 of the cushions were slashed and the wicker on the chairs was frayed. Now the staff at the front desk, the bars and water front were really friendly and helpful but you had to find them. They rarely approached you to see if you needed anything. The waitresses at the one and only open restaurant were rude and resented you even being there. I could never get water or coffee without having to get up and ask the hostess for some. The food was bland and no where near what anyone would call 5 star. Their attitude might be partially based on the hotel keeping the service charge AND any additional tip that you give. If you want to tip anyone who provided you good service, do it in cash, don’t put it on the check because they will never receive it. The rooms were pleasant but the seat cushions were stained and there were numerous cracks in the plaster. (This is after a renovation 5 years ago) we had an ocean front room and the view was amazing. Be aware that this hotel is on the Atlantic side of the island so the water is clear but not warm like the Caribbean side. Now am I being hypercritical, I think not. There is an actual definition of 5-star. It incorporates facility ecxcellence, an extra effort to food quality, and a customer service that goes above and beyond. So while the beach and prickle pear island are beautiful I would equate this hotel to a Holiday Inn that hasn’t had any updates or maintenance since it opened Read less

The views are stunning and snorkelling at Prickly Pear is just wonderful; so many colourful fish to see and such a memorable experience. Front desk staff were friendly, as was the excellent Marcus who operates boat trips to Prickly Pear. Negatives: the chaotic restaurant became a real pain to have to deal with. There aren't any other options for eating out nearby, so if you're stuck trying to get food that never turns up, from largely grumpy staff who don't seem to want you there, it's not great. The menu was small and dishes were frequently unavailable, so I ended up eating the same meal almost every night for two weeks. Breakfast was table service rather than a buffet, and it was literally a lottery for what you'd end up receiving - there didn't seem a good reason for this since the hotel wasn't even half full. Room service and housekeeping were also quite chaotic, sometimes not making it to the room at all or leaving no toiletries for days. The beach is fairly small and there were only a small number of beds, so in peak times it might be hard to snag one. Overall this is a stunning location and a really interesting hotel, but the disorganisation and some unfriendly staff are issues - given the high prices here - that Hodges probably needs to address. The staff acted like they didn’t want to be there. At one meal, my pasta was so salty, but I had to ration my water cause I never found a waitress to ask for a refill. At these prices! The shower had no water pressure. The beach was small and the cushions were torn. You had to go get your own towels if you were lucky enough to find one. The staff didn’t put the beach cushions out till 11:00 in the morning. Their “special restaurant” NaCl, only opened on the weekend. We made a reservation early in the week thinking it would be crowded. Nope. Only 1 other table was full. I asked for ice water but was told they don’t serve that in this restaurant He then took away our water goblets AND our napkins. We walked out. Do not go here. The Caribbean side of the island is much nicer. Read less
