373 rooms and suites within 2 villages. Travelled to Sandals on 7th March with my husband for 10 nights so it was just when things started to kick off with CV. We both had a wonderful time, the food in the restaurants was lovely, with the exception of The drunken duck. We didn't like this place at all, it smelt awful, very musty and the service wasn't good. We saw lots of tables experience this too where they brought your main course out while you were still eating starters. Anyway, there are plenty of other nice restaurants so we didn't go back to this one. Our favourite was Mario's the food and service was great here. The beach was beautiful, we did experience some seaweed but they worked really hard to get this cleared. We always managed to find a sunlounger but quite honestly there weren't many left if you waited until after breakfast, just so many with towels on that no one turned up to use, this definitely needs addressing! As the holiday went on we did start to worry a little about being unable to get home but our flight was fine although I felt terribly sad for the pilot and Virgin staff because they said that was probably their last flight. We loved Sandals and will definitely go back one day but we would like to try a different island, this was our 5th time in Antigua and 1st time at Sandals, this was definitely the best hotel, probably most expensive but I think it's true that you get what you pay for. Thank you to Isaac who worked from the beach who arranged our private taxi Island tour with Jacob's he was so knowledgeable and it was a lovely experience. Read less

We have just returned from sandals after a 2 week holiday to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. It was a holiday of two halves in the fact the first week was so relaxing, everything was open ie restaurants and bars and the place had such a lovely vibe about it. All the staff we encountered couldn’t do enough for you. However the second week was when the world changed forever and we felt as if we had overstayed our welcome. The GM Matthew spoke to us most days telling us to get on the next flight out of Antigua as things were changing on a daily basis and at any moment the airport was going to close. We had tried to get home earlier as my husband and I are key workers and the last thing we wanted was to be stranded on the island with elderly parents back home worrying about us. Virgin cancelled our flight back home twice and in the end at great expense we managed to fly BA home so we could make our shifts. But did we get what we paid for? No we didn’t. Everything was being closed around us whilst we were sitting on our sun loungers. Instead of 11 restaurants you were lucky if two were open in the evening. In the end there were just 18 couples left in a beautiful resort which was being packed up around us. I feel so sorry for the staff as they work so hard and the months ahead no doubt will be very hard for them all. But they were still smiling as we left. Special mention to Jackie at Bayside, Joy at the Caribbean pool bar who makes a fabulous cocktail and Andy and James at the Drunken duck who kept the drinks flowing. You are all a credit to the sandals family. Such a shame the management there don’t take a leaf out of your book! Read less

This was our second visit to a Sandals facility. Put simply, an outstanding experience. We stayed in the honeymoon suite and the whole period of our visit was SO great we can't wait to revisit, hopefully to stay in the same room. We were thoroughly spoiled, with visits from bar staff to take drinks orders while sitting around our semi-private pool, to exceptional service from any and all Sandals staff who were invariably friendly and professional, seeming to have nothing else to do apart from ensuring that we had the best possible experience of our lives. The Sandals facility occupies the best beach in Antigua, offers indoor and outdoor dining with service from courteous restaurant staff, superb bar staff always ready to serve to housekeeping staff who kept our suite spotless yet found the time to add their own personal touch. If the planes are flying again, we hope to return in October (we can't wait until next year). Read less

My husband & I returned from Sandals - thankfully - last week amid the dreadful & frightening situation that faces us all throughout the world. My review of this hotel has coronavirus as its backdrop. Whilst there were a couple of good points to technically make - my overall impression will be the overwhelming lack of empathy or sensitivity to the situation guests found themselves in. The management closed the hotel around our ears. One facility, one restaurant at a time, one bar, the spa, the beach, beds/loungers removed etc - they just wanted us out. Believe me if we could have got out sooner we would have, but situation was beyond our control and we were relying on British Airways & other guests on Virgin Atlantic. One VERY ELDERLY couple (in their eighties) were even threatened with police action by the a general Manager. OBVIOUSLY they were very anxious thinking their Virgin flight had been cancelled (inaccurate information given by hotel) - and were met with complete insensitivity by the General Manager. Empathy - imagine this couple was your mother/father/ grandparents. My husband & I helped them by checking them in on line and quietly asking someone in reception to print off their boarding passes. The elderly gentleman asked me why they’d do that for me but not for him? I can only assume staff had been directed by the GM not to engage with the couple. I am disgusted by their treatment, whoever the GM (think his name is Matthew) is should be ASHAMED. Actually I’m surprised I didn’t meet him whilst we were there as by the time we left in Tuesday there were only approximately 30 people left - he wasn’t visible, didn’t come personally to speak to us - astoundingly poor leadership & management skills. Regardless of the crisis we all faced last week (& in the coming months) I would NEVER return to Sandals - you made a stressful situation 100 times worse. My only hope is that the staff and beach vendors are able to ride this storm and come out the other side. As for the GM I hope he reflects on his approach to others and gains a little insight into humanity. Read less
