We stayed in room 901 and it exceeded our expectations. Our butlers Geoffrey, Kevin and Wendell provided impeccable service. The resort and grounds were simply stunning. We took a walk every evening and enjoyed every square inch of the resort. We can’t wait to return.

May 11 - 18, 2018 We just returned from our second trip to Grande Antigua after 5 years, and we are so glad we did. In a short review, it was simply wonderful. Background information on us is this was our 16th Sandals vacation, at 9 different resorts on 4 islands, and we have made many friends at all. At this point in our travels, the resort properties are now secondary to the people we know and meet that make Sandals our favorite places on earth. Your Sandals experience truly blossoms once you transcend from it being all about you and you learn to be part of the Sandals family. There have been some nice upgrades since 2014, and there are benefits of return visits since you already know the layout and you see old friends that show you such love. It is incredible how nice everyone was to us and made us laugh each and every time we ran into them. I’m speaking about many of the staff member and so many couples from the US and UK that we have been blessed to get to spend a little time to get to know you. I was the big white bearded guy with the “Double Trouble” name tag if you happened to see my silly grin. I smile so much at Sandals that my face hurts when I get home. Thank you, Matthew, Leighton, and Alex, for allowing “Double Trouble” to have so much fun with everyone. I hope we were able to make you laugh and didn’t disrupt your work too much. There were so many people we want to name for how they touched our hearts, that I will send them to you directly instead of filling up this online review. We hit the rush-hour arriving at the airport and it took an hour to get through customs, but literally got into the Sandals shuttle immediately. So, we still made it to the resort at 3:30 as I originally expected. The new airport is larger but they still have some issues with planning on peak hours that slow you down. It’s built with more capacity, and jet ramps that make it nice. They just need to get the extra stations opened during rush hour to make it more efficient, and it will be a great experience. Once we stepped onto the resort, everything went better than we could have hoped. The Club staff had us checked in with Loyalty escorting us to our Caribbean side room in just a few minutes. About an hour later we were chatting with Matthew the SAT GM and sending selfies to the GM at the South Coast Jamaica. How cool is that? We were absolutely treated like family returning home after a long time away. We told our housekeeper that we were early risers and she adjusted her routine to get our room cleaned and bed turn-down taken care of on our schedule. We also left of note of our beverage preferences above the refrigerator, so we were always well stocked with what we liked. The grounds and beach are a photographer’s dream. I came home with 560 photos and 2 hours of video. We ate at and enjoyed every restaurant except Soy, only because we are not big on sushi. We’ve tried Soy at other resorts and they were good, but we just preferred to go with the other options available that we like more. That’s the great thing about Sandals, you have so many options that you can always find something you like. If you take the time to speak with the restaurant staff, you can see how much pride some have with their restaurant. It isn’t easy to have quality restaurants on small islands where everything has to be shipped to them, so keep that logistics difficulty factor in mind and you can appreciate their pride. We didn’t participate in the water sports but I did want to note that we did see wind-surfing for the first time. I asked and they had a beginner’s board and an advanced board. We met some of the local sellers and some that we bought from year’s ago. Our trick to avoid being asked to buy something every day was to chat with them and get to know them personally. Then every following encounter was just a greeting to see how our day was going without any sales pitch. Be sure to check out the little store on the beach just off the right side of the resort. Nora, Sandra, and Reona were sweet & nice people to talk with and they had lots of things that we couldn’t find on the resort. TIP – Being polite doesn’t cost you anything and it often gets you something you didn’t expect. My Wife did two massages and really liked the hot stone massage. She said that was the best massage she’s ever had. My only issue was with the costs of the Spa. We receive a free ½ hour couple’s massage for being Diamond level guests, and we upgraded to an hour and that cost $189 US before the tip. The only reason my Wife did the second massage was because of a $100 coupon from booking our next trip while on the resort. It’s not that they don’t have a wonderful spa and offer lots of stuff, it’s just the prices that prevent us from using them more often. Use it if you want a nice experience, but just be aware of the prices plus 12% charge before you go. The entertainment department works hard with coordinating many things every day and evening. I wish I had their energy! They are always on the go and then onto the next event. And always with the happiest smiles. We are early risers so we don’t see all of the evening entertainment. But again, that’s the beauty of Sandals by giving you many options and you can choose what type of vacation you have all within the same resort. Overall, we had a great time. We met lots of great people and had a wonderful week in paradise. It definitely was worth going back to. Read less

My husband and I just returned from a week spent at Sandals Grande Antigua. We've been to other all inclusive resorts on other islands in the Caribbean, but Sandals stands out above the rest. One of my favorite things about vacationing at Sandals is that it is truly all inclusive, even the airport transfers. Once your airplane touches down, you don't have to worry about a thing. That is what vacation should be all about!! They also don't accept tips at Sandals (except for Butlers and the spa). While I always tip servers and baggage porters at home, I don't like to carry cash around the resort and then I feel guilty if I don't tip... even if resort's website says you don't need to because you see other people tipping. At Sandals, everyone wears buttons that say "I'm always this good, no tips accepted!" I LOVE that the company takes care of their employees and we don't have to worry that we'll offend. We stayed on the Caribbean side of the resort. It is the older side, but everything is very lovely. The gardens are immaculate and so colorful. The resort is large, but not overly so. We were able to easily walk to everywhere we wanted to go. The food was very, very good. I highly recommend the pulled pork tacos and the steak at the OK Corral Restaurant. That was probably my favorite meal of the trip! If you're short on time and need to cut out a restaurant, I would suggest cutting out Eleanor's. It wasn't my favorite and it requires reservations (and long pants for men). You can simplify by skipping it if needed. If you're a chocolate lover, make sure to have dessert at Barefoot By the Sea Restaurant. Best chocolate cake on the resort! Also, stop in and get the chocolate chip cookies at Cafe de Paris. We made that a daily tradition. Soooo good! The resort offers Hobie Cats (small catamarans), wind surfing, standing paddle boards, kayaks, and three free snorkeling trips a day. ALL INCLUDED IN YOUR STAY! The wind was amazing for sailing and the snorkeling was some of the best ever! The people that work at Sandals Grande Antigua are so friendly and helpful. They are SO HARD WORKING! Something that I noticed and enjoyed was that SGA has more female bartenders security guards than male bartenders and security guards. I've never seen that before! The staff went out of their way to say hello as they passed us on the sidewalk. If someone didn't greet us, we greeted them with smile and a hello and always got a warm response! I would highly recommend this resort! Read less

We got married here 7 years ago. After going to a couple Sandals in Jamaica, coming back to Antigua was awesome. More of a laid back crowd, less crowded. Awesome (paid) excursions. Lunch is probably their weak spot, but we love the Pizza so did it most often. Breakfast and dinners are awesome!
