We are Brits. Do not bother to take EC Dollars change your money to US Dollars! The Good - Food really good in the Buffet, always something on the menu. Sails and Tails good. Pizza restaurant good. Dont bother with the Italian - rubbish. Drinks - hit or miss with bar staff, they haven't been trained to mix cocktails, never managed to get a drinkable Gin & Tonic it always arrived with soda water or 90% Gin! Staff in the main are lovely and friendly with the exception of the Reception Staff, miserable, unwelcoming and unhelpful. Gym very good. Grounds lovely. The Bad - Beware , despite being all inclusive, the rooms have no mini bar, no room service, no umbrellas (it does rain here) and rooms are only serviced every other day if you are lucky, we got missed twice on top of this you are surcharged in US Dollars $24 per day per room ( that's around £400 uk pounds for a two week all inc break). The Lovers Beach is slimy and muddy in parts. The sea is not blue/green as in the brochure, more sludge colour If you want a FAB beach go next door to the Pineapple Beach Club! The main pool is not relaxing with very loud music for most of the day. Should be bottled water in the room however we had to keep requesting refills! Better Hotels in Antigua - definitely. The Pineapple Beach seems so much more friendly and the ongoing refurbishment looks amazing. Ironically, owned by the same owners - you can get a day pass to visit - would highly recommend. In conclusion, visited many Caribbean holiday resorts over the years, this one has some heavy lifting to do if it wants to retain its over rated position. Read less

The staff were great, smiling, helpful and were happy to go out of their way to make a difference. The rooms are refurbished and large. The AC was great. So was the "shuttling", the food (including the buffet), the bars. There were always towels, ALL the pools were good, we were brought water whenever we asked. Both beaches were good. The music was good, as were the tennis and pickle ball, mini golf, ping pong. Everything. We will be back. And go to Pineapple next door and up the mountain for lunch at the Outhouse for photos and ribs. Read less

We were very pleased that our tour company had chosen the Verandah for our stay in Antigua as part of an England cricket tour. We had been to the hotel about 10 years ago on a private visit.. Since then it has become adults only and been updated. We were keen to see what had changed. The main means of transport within this huge resort is of course still by a very efficient golf buggy service. The lower beach close to reception has been considerably improved. It was free of seaweed and offered the chance of a very enjoyable swim in calm waters. The beach bar there has also been improved and a new small pool and deck has been added. Nearer the main area of the hotel in place of what we remember as a kids club is now the Wicket Pub which was extremely popular. One of the tennis courts has been replaced by several pickleball courts which again seemed popular. The main swimming pool and the main beach, reached by a flight of steps , are as attractive as ever. We were fortunate to have a villa close to the restaurants and to the gym. The latter is well equipped and has good air conditioning. The main buffet restaurant is nothing special and rather gloomy and has a kind of works canteen ambience. we regularly had to chase up plates and cutlery from a harassed staff. The fruit juices seemed to be heavily diluted. The speciality Portofino restaurant was much better but does require booking. The pool bar was generally well run although some bar tenders were noticeably better organised than others. A list of the cocktails on view would have been helpful. Management was invisible which is a pity and there appeared to be no recognition of returning guests. We enjoyed our stay at the Verandah and were delighted to see the improvements that have been made. Our room was spacious and well maintained with of course a large Verandah. It would not take much by way of further improvements to make the Verandah truly outstanding. Read less

The staff were fantastic, the grounds were beautifully maintained, villas were of a very good standard and the the food was generally great with lots of options. One of us was a vegetarian and there was usually several options at the different restaurants. Mini golf, tennis courts, watersports etc were really well kept areas / equipment as well. My one piece of constructive feedback is that sometimes the main pool's music was too loud and fast, especially in the mornings. That being said there are other pools and beaches which are more chilled. Overall would highly recommend. Read less

We were really excited to see soooo many beautiful updates and renovations…And, yet the truly beautiful, lush landscaping and the unique charm of The Verandah remains. Everyone who works there is super-friendly and hardworking, but we must mention how much we loved Theodore’s big smile everyday, and especially the sincere kindness of Terhon, The Duty Manager, who truly went above and beyond for my husband. Can’t wait to go back again!!! Read less
