Baha Mar is an exceptional place to stay!

We had a very enjoyable vacation at Baha Mar. We had phenomenal meals, phenomenal service.
It's a Top Notch Resort! The pool was heated for our enjoyment, the Water Park has great rides if you choose to partake in them! Casino is a bit tight, but still enjoyable!

I’m used to fine hotels and this might have qualified as one but for the ridiculous price of everything and some other unfortunate considerations. Where do I start?
The fact that to get anywhere on the property, you have to traverse the casino was a drag. There’s nothing like schlepping yourself through a throng of fully dressed and occasionally intoxicated gamblers in your wet bathing suit. I’m guessing the configuration of rooms in the main tower - so that you have to pass through the casino on your way anywhere else - is intentional so that they can wring every last penny from your purse or wallet. That’s if there is anything left after paying 3X more for food and drink than you would pay anywhere off-property. There’s just something about a ‘shakedown’ that leaves a bad taste in your mouth, no matter how good the food tastes or what your bank balance is.
Granted things got off to a bad start. When we left our room for the first time, we returned 30 minutes later to discover our bags had disappeared. After a stressful 15 minutes of wondering if they had been stolen, if we had lost our minds, or if we had somehow returned to the wrong room, a panicked visit to the front desk revealed that an inexperienced bellman had accidentally moved our bags from one tower to another by mistake. Apparently, another guest had requested a transfer of bags from their room to another - an unfortunate but excusable mistake had things improved. They didn’t.
No less than two times, errors occurred on our hotel bill. We had seen the warnings from other Trip Advisor reviews about this happening and so we were being vigilant. The first night we were there, we discovered we had been double charged for some items purchased at an on-site convenience store. On the last day of our stay, we were charged for a breakfast we did not eat. This first mistake was quickly reversed. Unfortunately, after being assured they would fix the latter one at check out, it never was.
We went to the Baja Mar hoping to get some peace and quiet but discovered that to do so, we had to pay extra for the beach club experience. We enjoyed it and the food was good but we paid extra for it.
OK, what we liked: the pools were nice, the water park was amazing (even though we did not take advantage of it that much), the food was generally of the amusement park variety with some notable exceptions. We really enjoyed a dinner at one of the fine restaurants on-site and the food at the Beach club was quite good.
The service was generally mediocre but there were a few exceptions.

Also my thermostat was very inaccurate. I think the numbers were for fun but temp never changed. I had ti ask for a blanket and the thermostat was set on 80. It was NOT 80 it was freezing. But they brought blankets up within minutes of my calling. Taxi service on departure was good though.

We were told there would be an email when it was ready, The email never came. On our 5 day stay, every day was a challenge to have the room cleaned. 2 days it didnt get done. The other days it was always done after 5:30pm. Staff needs to be more engaged and warm, Half were happy and half showed a lack of regard. Restaurants are very expensive. The food is worth it however the service was inconsistent with the exception of Carna and Cinka. The aesthetics and amenities are great however for the price, I expected a higher level in service reliability and presentation. It was way to pricey to risk the money. There are so many other worthwhile choices. I wouldnt return.

Stay away unless you like brown water and food poisoning.
Dec 3, 2023Rob M
Stay as far away as possible. Brown water from bathroom faucet. Kids got food poisoning from on property food. Hotel ignored EMT advice to treat our kids. Lost half our vacation while kids were sick in bed. Neither Hyatt nor the property will take responsibility for the issue and provide fair compensation.

Payments are being prioritised based on when the request was made, working in order from March 2020 onwards. We will always try to process refunds at the earliest opportunity, for requests before August our maximum timeframe is 120 days. As we are steadily reducing the maximum processing time for each new request, for refund requests made in August, we expect the maximum processing time to be 80 days, from the date the refund is requested. For those requesting a refund in September, we expect it to be processed within a maximum of 60 days, and then reduce to 30 days for refunds requested in October, before returning to normal levels.
To finalise the amendment, one of our customer advisors will phone you. We need to work through amend requests in departure date order so we can prioritise those with the most imminent travel plans, so you may have a longer wait than usual until we’re able to ring you back. We will help everyone that wants to move their holiday.
