The hotel

Everyday is paradise when you wake up with views of the ocean through the floor to ceiling windows at the Margaritaville Beach Resort in the Bahamas. With over 5,000 square miles of beaches, pools, and bars to explore, this is your ultimate destination within a destination. It’s perfect for families, with spacious suites to accommodate you all together, some even with full kitchens for those nights when you want to eat dinner alone on the balcony. The activities on offer are never ending, the water park being the pick of the bunch – and we know you’ll love the slides just as much as the little ones really! There’s also an entertainment centre to keep them occupied, with games, bowling and a movie theatre, so you can relax in the spa or grab a frozen margarita from the beachfront bar and watch the cruise ships coming in and out of Nassau. Make sure you grab a spot at the rooftop bar in time for the sunset, definitely an instagram-able moment.

This place is an absolute hole, I genuinely can’t believe some of the other reviews, I feel like I must have been staying in a different place to these other guests! Don’t be fooled by sites like booking.com’s inaccurate rating, they list it as a 5* but it is in fact a low end 4* resort. We arrived here for our honeymoon, our once in a lifetime trip to the Bahamas, we were given an upgraded room, and thank god we were upgraded because otherwise this whole trip would have been a complete nightmare. To kick off, booking.com uses photo’s that aren’t real, some of the pictures are actually computer generated and not the actual hotel, so don’t expect the nice luxury bar areas visible in the images, they don’t exist. If your trip is over the earlier part of the week (mon-wed) majority of the on-site facilities are closed, e.g. limited opening hours of restaurants/bars and some not open at all. We initially thought this was no problem, we will just head out and eat - nope - the whole of downtown closes their doors at 5pm as the cruise ships depart the marina. Remember that upgrade I mentioned, well that’s the only thing that saved the trip, because the upgrade incorporated an in room kitchen, meaning we could prepare some food at least - not exactly our hopes/plans for the honeymoon, but hey ho! On one evening we grabbed a drink at the bar downstairs, and went off to explore, we headed up to the roof to catch the sunset, about a second after sitting down we were approached to advise we couldn’t bring ‘outside drinks’ to the rooftop? We were so confused, the drinks were literally purchased 2 mins before and were in the hotel branded cups, so not only are you paying a $60+ daily resort fee, you can’t actually move freely around the hotel - it’s crazy! Whilst the view is beautiful, the hotel itself is pretty grim, again the photo’s paint a pretty picture, but it’s actually quite dirty and unmaintained, stained towels in the pool area, broken loungers and sun beds etc. On one evening, with everything being closed we headed down to the pool area fire pit (one particular harbour) which was initially nice, until we saw 2 giant rats running around the poolside. This wasn’t a huge surprise given that the bins were overflowing at various parts of the resort. Kids in ‘adults only’ areas, e.g. having water fights and spitting at each other in the hot tubs, which went completely ignored by staff. On another evening whilst sat out on the balcony we observed 2 teenage boys urinating in the fire pit - absolutely disgusting. Also expect to be hit with numerous hidden fees and charges, and don’t expect any decent service for the compulsory gratuity added to your bill, majority of the staff are pretty rude and unhelpful. We actually made the decision to check out 4 days early to try and salvage what was left of our honeymoon, best decision we could have made. My only praise for this place goes to manager Mario, he was very respectful when we raised our concerns, and supported us with our early check out. Overall though a very disappointing experience/stay, still pretty shocked that we paid the money we did for our honeymoon experience, it was just awful. Read less

We booked a certain room but were accommodated with a better room when early check in was selected. The outdoor staff have so much personality, I especially loved Mark, and the staff in the sister building were really friendly and great as well. Next i would say the environment was great, there’s always something to do on the property or next door on the beach, the lazy river was a good plus, many shops close by, good food, good drinks. I think what i enjoyed the most was going to the bar and seeing my new fave bartender Dicienzo, he was the absolute best they had hands down. But now the downside to that is one bartender named Gary, i would caution you to not even sit down when this man is working at the bar, the attitude and demeanor are horrible. Other than that i would definitely comeback again. Read less
