I was incredibly worried about our 7 night stay at the Reef/ Atlantis given some of the recent reviews. And while I certainly believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, our trip was at least near perfect and completely the opposite of the negative experiences that some people described. I think one reason is that we went during the 3rd week of August and I suspect that's not peak time for the resort since schools have already started for much of the US. We therefore never experienced long lines, we always had a seat by the pool and we didn't have to wait hours for food service. Another reason is obviously COVID and that the CDC moved the Bahamas to a Level 4 (i.e. do not travel there) so that probably thinned the crowds as well. But we felt completely safe. ALL staff were wearing masks, even the lifeguards siting outside in the hot, hot sun. Masks were required in casinos and any place indoors. And with the complicated testing requirements, you need to be COVID free via a PCR test (or a rapid test if you are vaccinated). Even our six year old was required to take a test so you know all the young kids were COVID free as well. Some quick highlights of the Reef and Atlantis -- The Reef is one of the nicest properties we've ever stayed at -- on par with any of Disney hotels we've been to (if not, better). We had a 2 Bedroom terrace suite on the first floor which was enormous. Starbucks was literally down the hall which was amazing for morning coffee. While we really didn't cook, there was a full kitchen and on the second floor is a full laundry room (free to use, just bring your own detergent!) The Reef connects to the Cove, an even swankier property but less family oriented. There are good food options at the Cove like Mosaic (breakfast buffets) and Fish (a beautifully designed seafood restaurant). The Sea Glass is a very chill lounge with a couple of gaming tables too. In several reviews, people said many of the slides were closed. We did NOT find this to be true...in fact, as far as we could tell, everything was more or less operational. There may have one or two rides not in service, but any of the major slides were up and running. And there were literally no lines. My two older boys kept going on the same slides over and over again! The big slides are intended for anyone 48" and above so if your children are below that height, the options are a bit more limited. My six year old is quite small so he couldn't do any of the big slides with his brothers but he could go on the Rapid River (like a lazy river but with rapids), the Splashers water playground, and there were a couple of small slides too. Also, all the pools were available to him as well (and the beach too!) We did the "Dip n'Discover" at Dolphin Cay which was an incredible experience. My kids got to spend 30 mins with one of the resort's rescue dolphins and her trainer. We've done these "swim with dolphins" type of activities before but that is NOTHING compared to this activity. I was on the fence about doing this but so glad we did. I read a lot of bad things about the shuttles too. For the most part, the shuttles were excellent. They definitely run more frequently in the evening and we never had to wait more than five minutes. They were very convenient when the kids were too tired to walk -- especially to the Marina (which is a very cute little strip of stores and restaurants). During a morning when it was raining, we spent some time at The Dig and that was amazing too. They've done a really fantastic job of maintaining the aquarium, still looks as great when I first visited it over 15 years ago. What could be improved? Well, it took days to figure out where everything is and I still got lost on many occasions. The signs aren't very helpful and everything feels very "circular" in that there are no straight paths to any one attraction -- you literally have to walk around something to get some place. So at the end of the day, you are pretty beat. Fortunately, if you ever get lost, one of the staff is always there to help (and they were GREAT about helping) People complain that the Atlantis is expensive. Yes, it's expensive, but so what? If you're expecting a budget vacation, then you probably shouldn't be coming here. This isn't a value resort. You're paying for an experience which you can't find anywhere else. And with the water rides, the pools, the beach and the activities, I always felt we were getting our money's worth. We spent a lot but never felt money was ever wasted. After 18 months of not being able to travel, this was definitely a great rebound vacation --and according to our kids, one of the best they ever had (and we go to Disney A LOT). Thanks Atlantis for everything!!!! Read less

I just returned last night from 6 nights at The Reef. The room at the Reef was fantastic. Very spacious and comfortable. It was not crowded....had it been, I would have been bummed. The Reef and The Cove are near each other. If you can stay there....that is if you want to go to Atlantis. I realize it's a budget buster, but the accommodations are superior. That said...would I go back? NO. (I'm sure some managers response will be forthcoming inviting me to speak with someone about my experience. Thanks but no thanks) I don't like cruises, and the entire property would be best described as a cruise ship hotel. You have heard by now that prices at Atlantis are outrageous. YEP. True. $12 for water. $60-70 for a pasta dish. Pizza for $30+. We did the dolphin kayak thing and that was $500 for 20 minutes. The ocean is beautiful, the beach is fantastic, there are water slides...etc. However, you can find this in a lot of places for 1/2 the price. My rating of the Reef is a 4. My rating of Atlantis is a 1. As in 1 and done. Will not return. Read less

Based on the other reviews, I was prepared to be disappointed with my experience. However, I was pleasantly surprised. On the whole, we left with a very nice experience with our extended family and I plan to return again. Positives: Facilities are excellent: The resort was beautiful, well maintained and the Reef rooms were large, and in good condition. Pool, beach and all the amenities of the water park are fantastic. Great to have kitchens in the rooms- we generally ate breakfast at home in the rooms and lunch by the pool/beach. Staff does a great job masking and cleaning up the areas frequently. Easy to take shuttles to other parts of resort to see the rest of the area. Negatives: Staff were generally pleasant, but some were fairly aloof and not super helpful. I would say this is the biggest area for improvement in the resort given the price you pay. Food was average. Lots of room for improvement here. Mattresses could use updating- our bed had a large depression in it. Housekeeping was intermittent- there were a few days we didn’t get any service in our room. I love that you were able to fill up water but it both smelled and tasted unpleasant most of the time. Tips: If you don’t get to beach or pool early, all the good seats are taken. Similarly the pool doesn’t give out beach towels later in the day (by 4pm) so good to have towels by then. Read less

Simple put Atlantis was a HUGE disappointment. Our reef room was terrible and not maintained well. (Broken and non working items throughout the room-note pictures of lights in room). No matter what button you pressed on the phone it dialed the discovery center. I even tried the emergency button and it went to the discovery center which was closed. When we expressed the issues to the front desk they said they would look into things and get back to us and never did. We have been there in the past so knew it was expensive but it is now ridiculous. The worse thing was we were there to check out the property for my daughters wedding. We had a hold date and they treated us like we were bothering them. Was showed 2 places and we tried to reach out for availability of certain venues and with questions and they would not get back to us. Because of our treatment we will take our wedding of an estimated 120 guest somewhere else. Definitely not worth the prices they’re charging. Service and responsiveness is not good for what you are paying. Read less
